p51d007: How about giving up lint for Lent?

[www.feargod.net image 274x173]

www.feargod.net

I prefer to celebrate Lint and give up lent for Lint. I like to start by cleaning out my dryer real well.

/Ramen
//It's a practical celebration.

I'm still recovering from the shock of seeing so many people with smudges on their foreheads ambling about today.  Moving to a heavily Catholic area from the godless Northwest has been interesting.  Can't wait to see all the dirty looks I get when I slow smoke a brisket on Friday.  The one good thing is all the fish sandwiches that have suddenly appeared on menus as I dig me some fried fish with lots of hot sauce.

The only thing nuttier than being religious is starving yourself or sacrificing something like booze or weed or twinkies for some hope that a zombie will return and save your sorry ass...

PATHETIC

Giving up stuff is sort negative.  Big deal if I give up chocolate or porn.

I'll donate my time.  Better, right?

/and honestly, I don't want to give up porn

Huck Chaser: I gave up Lent for Lent! I'm the first person to have ever thought of that! Haha!

I did that too a number of years ago.  My New Years Resolution  to no longer make New Years Resolutions is going strong as well.

lennavan: Certainly a lot less wars fought, which means resources we could allocate elsewhere.  Like curing cancer and whatnot.

But a lot of our scientific progress was driven by war.  Hell, you could attribute our space program to the Cold War.  Yeah, we would have gotten around to it eventually, but the drive to be "the best" made it happen sooner.

Without strife, we would be complacent and uninterested.  Competition breeds creativity, especially when your life is on the line.

Burr: I'm sorry, was too busy inventing modern genetics to listen to you.

It's a lot easier to identify major scientific principles if you wildly fudge the data to drive a conclusion you totally think is true and it turns out you got lucky and were right later.

I've decided to give a up a few things - sweets (pastries, candy, cakes, donuts, stuff like that), ice cream, soda, and possibly pizza or I may substitute beer for pizza.

I don't inhale all these things all the time but once or twice a week so I thought giving them all up together would make Jeebus happy.

1 Samuel 15:22
New International Version (NIV)

22But Samuel replied:
"Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

Or maybe just obey God instead of making useless 'sacrifices'.
