People are getting excited about it? I thought most people are shrugging their shoulders and saying "meh."

Make it a watch phone with music player and solar charger and I will consider it.  Make it as tough as a G-shock and you will have my business.

I'd buy one if you had to say "6, 2, and even, over and out" to hang up

This will be different than all the watch adapters currently available for the iPod nano how?

You're going to be able to tell time on your wrist now? Holy crap! Why didn't anyone ever think of that before?

Apple, you have outdone yourself in the innovation department.

I don't understand; the iPod Nano was like that for one generation and then Apple went back to the traditional design. Why would they want to do it again?

Good headline. The people hating on this just because it comes from Apple are most definitely getting excited for all the wrong reasons

I'm hoping because this is more of an IPhone nano. Add in a good wireless headset to listen to music and phone calls, and I'd be all over this.

And that comes from a PC user who's never owned an Apple device.

HP had been working on this for at least a decade. It had become part of their WebOS plan until that all got scrapped.

Is that a trick question? They're both dorky.

Too hard to determine, isn't class/style usually set by price?  Being an Apple product I'm sure the price will be the same.

They're both hideous. Besides, any man who wears expensive jewellery is not to be taken seriously.

that breitling is awful. they do, however, make a much more tasteful chronograph with an in-house movement, the transocean.

The nano watch bands were 3rd party.

By redesigning the nano so that it no longer fit into watch bands, they reduced that market.

Which cleared the way for them to release their own watch device into the market (probably at a higher price point than what a nano + band would have cost).

My iPhone has already supplanted my watches. An iWatch would be ridiculous and redundant.

/The poor things just sit in their box with the batteries gradually running down.
//Sometimes I take them out, give them some air and sunlight, but then it's back in the box with them!

Unless it's at least the equivalent of a Pip-Boy, it's a nigh-useless thing hanging on one's wrist, unless one is  status junkie. There is that use for it. I guess.

If what you wear is supposed to convey class and style, you have neither.

Anyway, I don't understand the purpose of an iWatch.  I doubt Apple's making one.  The iPhone is an obvious market.  The iPad is an obvious market.  An iWatch, not so much.

Remember two things.
1: Steve is dead.
2: Apple was Gawd awful without him leading it

It remains to be seen how Apple does with out him, but there is always the strong possibility that it will suck monkey balls.

So they can sell watches AND nanos?

If it makes phone calls, and I could pair it with a wireless ear piece, then I might be interested.  As far as new wearable tech goes, I'm more interested in Google glasses.

2014: Apple will make a watch with music player, you'll buy it and defend your choice on internet forums.
2015: Then they'll release a watch, music player and solar charger, you'll buy that and defend your choice on internet forums.
2016: Then they'll release a watch and phone only model, you'll buy it and defend your choice on internet forums.
2017: Then they'll release a watch and phone and music player model, you'll buy it and defend your choice on internet forums despite the fact that it never met all the specifications you originally wanted.
2018 Then they'll stop releasing them because something else has come along, you buy that and defend your choice on internet forums.

No idea if apple will release this or what features it will have. That being said, the pebble has some clever applications.

When Apple introduced the the iPod I said, "It's just another MP3 player, what's the big deal?". I was wrong. When they announced they were going to make a cell phone I said, "Another phone? Why bother?". I was wrong. When they introduced the iPad I said, "It's just a big iPod touch, it'll never catch on.". I was wrong. I'm not betting against it.

If it turns out to be a wearable iPhone I'll probably buy it when it comes time to replace my current one. In fact, if it could function as a heart rate monitor with GPS and map functions to track my runs and bike rides at a competitive price to the Garmin and Suunto watches that do that, I'd probably consider it when it's time to replace my old HR monitor.

iWatch. Because... innovation.

No cell phone watch is worth it using current consumer-grade battery technology. Hell, a 4G cell phone with a full size battery barely lasts a single day on a charge, what do people expect a battery the size of a quarter will be able to do?

2013-02-14 07:45:45 AM
It will implant electrodes directly into your blood and take its power from there, at the same time injecting a drug which makes you never want to take it off or buy anything from Samsung ever again.

2013-02-14 08:23:08 AM
If it's a Bluetooth "remote" that tethers to the iPhone in your pocket... and it's priced under $50... I could see it taking off.  Otherwise I'm skeptical.
