mitchcumstein1: Skyfrog: mitchcumstein1: FirstNationalBastard: No, the Doctor Who thread is coming later this afternoon. This is the Pony thread.

Would there be a thread if it wasn't about Doctor Who?

Yes. There is a pony thread for the latest episode every week and any big news related to the show often gets a thread also.

The Fighting is Magic game being shut down by Hasbro recently for example.

That's not the question, now is it? Would this thread exist without Doctor Who? No. That's why I came in here, because I care about Doctor Who.

I like them both, but even if I didn't like Doctor Who I wouldn't go into a thread about the show and say "I do not care for this". Just seems kind of pointless. If you're worried that Doctor Who is going to go off the air because someone made a Pony version of him I wouldn't be concerned. This will have no effect on your show.

Watch the show and lay off the Brony hate.  Like any fandom, some of the Bronies go overboard but, overall, they're just guys who like cartoons with a good story.  Just sucks for them that Thundercats, Iron Man, or Kung Fu Panda are such awful cartoons.  15 years ago, they were all watching Animaniacs & Pinky and the Brain and I'm sure you were, too.  This is no different.  The only reason anyone feels the slightest bit uncomfortable about it is because MLP is primarily aimed at girls.  But it's the first girls cartoon I can remember that is intelligent, doesn't condescend, has realistic character development, and where the main plot points are more intricate that what they're going to wear to the dance/how someone will let a boy know they like him.

THIS!

The "prom" episode was the only realistic one I have ever seen and I'm happy they turned the wedding episode into an adventure instead.

Technically, it's a thread about a toy based on My Little Pony, since this specific Pony appeared on the show, fanboys labled him as "Doctor Whooves" because of the hourglass symbol and resemblance to Tennant, and now a toy has been made calling him Doctor Whooves.

So, while it is slightly related to Doctor Who, the story is squarely within the realm of ponydom.

It's called Doctor Whooves, and resembles a beloved Doctor, I'd say it's more than slightly related to the show.

Hey, you're in here pissed because this thread is about a children's show featuring magical ponies instead of being about a children's show featuring a man in a magical box.

All the while, there's a perfectly good Doctor Who thread going on a few threads up the Entertainment tab.

All you think that watching ponies is harmless, think again.  I watched ponies.  They ruined my life.  They destroyed the blanket of cynicism that I had wrapped myself in for years.  I found myself actually appreciating others peoples eccentricities, loving and tolerating instead of belittling and mocking.  I liked how I was, all smug and superior and sarcastic.  Now I feel more empathy for my fellow human beings than I ever did before.

FARK YOU PONIES.

FirstNationalBastard: The My Little Pony Killer: It's not an official Hasbro release, which means that it'll be MUCH better quality.

Ah, you mean it'll actually look like the animated characters?

Although not branded by Hasbro, it's licensed from Hasbro, but will also look like the animated characters.

These are the Funko-made licensed vinyl figures, targeted at an adult/collector audience. They're officially licensed, so Hasbro isn't going to shut 'em down, but they're unofficial enough that they'll be pretty decent quality.

In the Funko line, licensed figures from the show get to use the trademarked names of their characters. Licensed figures of characters who didn't appear in the show get names that fans recognize, but are not the names actually used in the show. In show canon, Time Turner's a pony who turns an hourglass, and the only pony actually named Derpy had a few seconds of speaking time at the start of one episode. No infringement of Dr. Who, one scene involving Derpy.

On the shelf, a toy named "Dr. Whooves" might infringe on Dr. Who, but if it does, that's Funko's problem, not Hasbro's, because Hasbro never had a Dr. Whooves on the show. To be technically correct (the best kind of correct if there's even the slightest chance something might land in court), Dr. Whooves is just a name some fans made up.

i.imgur.com

By that same token, a figure of an un-named grey pony with a bad case of strabisimus is also likely to be popular amongst fans without requiring Hasbro to acknowledge the existence of Derpy. Technically-correct is also the best kind of correct if there's even the slightest chance the PR department might get involved.

Veteran of the Cola Wars: You know, thinking about it, in all of my years of living, liking My Little Pony might just be the most wholesome thing I might have ever done.

Years of doing hard drugs... Did that.
Dressing up in drag and going out to the Rocky Horror Picture Show more times than I can count... Did that.
Triple digit speeds on a motorbike tearing through the redwoods in the dark of the night... Did that. **Yawn**
Attending fundamentalist christian church services... Did that too. This is dangerous and life threatening. Do not do this. One of the few times in my life where I actually felt real butthole puckering fear.
Watching a truckload of Disney films with my mind all shades of farked up on acid, shrooms, and peyote buttons. And who knows what else. Did that. Cosmos was a much saner experience with said drugs.
And to many other stupid things to keep track of.

And now, as I sink into middle age and become boring and obsessed with a good hot cup of tea, I find my self watching ponies. Even weirder, I think a case could actually be made that it has made me a better person. A number of people would swear to it. Hard to be an intolerable INTJ ass when you are grinning stupidly and giggling at pastel ponies.
