Ah, the Monsanto Dump. The Bhopal of Greater Boston.

Then again, they already put a shopping center off Route 16 that was another Monsanto dump.

/You can tell a Bostonian when they snicker at the title "Made in Chelsea"

Meh, you say "toxic waste dump," I say "casino," let's call the whole thing off.

So... business as usual?

Toxic waste dump by another name.....

2013-02-13 01:57:47 PM
Indeed, what's the difference?

Was it an indian burial ground before it was a toxic waste dump?
Then you could get a movie about the toxic waste creating a bunch of indian zombies that attack a casino.

Anybody know the Wampanoag word for "brains"?

Yeah, because that area needs *more* traffic volume.

Right.

HA! Everett. Boston's own little slice of northern New Jersey.

Everett MA...is a toxic waste dump. Non story.

Isn't Everett's unofficial motto, "You though Malden was bad?"

As a Cape resident, I doubt that they have one.

If a casino ends up at Suffolk Downs, do you think the quality of people riding the Blue Line out that way will go up or down?

Subby, thanks for almost giving me a heart attack.  The article mentions nothing about Everett getting the casino, it hasn't been decided yet.  Fark you Subby and modmins who can't be arsed to even look at the article for 5 seconds before greening.

Ah yes, Monsanto Chemical. Fine stewards of ecology. I am sure that 100+ years of dyes, chemical seepage and heavy metal contamination will just enhance the atmosphere of shame, desperation and alcohol abuse found in other fine gambling establishments.

When did fark get to be so anti-casino?

Is there any part of Massachusetts that ISN'T a toxic waste dump?

2013-02-13 06:21:30 PM
Okay, because I don't get it, why the fark hasn't anyone decided to try and put casinos where the dog tracks were in Revere & Raynham?  Why keep looking for other places?

Oh trust me, Malden is slowly falling to Everett's level. But yea, Everett sucks. On the other hand I think Chelsea's Motto is "Welcome Illegal Immigrants, please send the most beautiful women in your family to King Arthur's Lounge Stripclub for her first shift".

Malden, Everett and Chelsea are like the Bermuda Triangle of Suck.

Revere, Malden, Everett and Chelsea are pretty much one same entity, broken apart by demarcation lines. Malden is *slightly* better, but not by much. Everett and Chelsea are really akin to sawing off a chunk of upper Jersey and somehow, dropping it in New England.

We're also forgetting the fantastic city of Lynn, where according to my ex's Father, you never go out the way you came in.

I'm seeing a lot of Belmont, where I lived for two years. Back then it was a dry town (Romney lived there while Governor), the cops wore 1920s uniforms (no joke, big brass buttons and everything) and it was beyond stuffed with old white people who thought neighboring Watertown was a den of sin.

/The liquor thing was the most baffling

Romney still lives there.  And yet he lost there by a wide margin in 2012.

We almost bought a house in Malden.  Seller was an asshat, so we stopped that deal and ended up nabbing a great place in Melrose for just a few grand more.  Dodged that bullet (almost literally- Marine vet was shot to death just a couple blocks away from the house we almost bought in Malden a couple weeks ago).

I'm new to Boston, so I don't know much about Everett. Is that an area where I should fear for my life? Or is it just kind of run down?

I'm from Baltimore, so when I hear about bad areas, I think of a place where you WILL get shot if you look like you don't belong.

Everett is more like upper Jersey - industrial with little zoning. I never felt like I was going to be shot (unlike certain areas of Southie or Roxbury) - but I wouldn't really want to drink the water or buy a house there. By and large the biggest thing is just don't go looking for trouble. Boston's really improved since when I was there about 8 years ago. If you're from Baltimore, I'm sure you've got the chops to keep an eye out.

Certain areas of South Boston, Roxbury and Dorchester were all places that I didn't really tool around in when it was late or if I looked really out of place. Heading west, I also kept the same attitude about certain areas of Springfield and Holyoke. A lot boils down to common sense. I never had any issues in Malden, and used to live in Somerville, Belmont, Jamaica Plain and Medford.

Thanks, that's helpful.

I live here in Symphony with all of the yuppies, so I'm kind of insulated from the bad areas. I've heard to avoid Roxbury, but that's about it.
