fta: Who was missing?  Tradition dictates that one Cabinet member skip the speech, to run the government in the event of a catastrophe. This year, that duty fell to Energy Secretary Steven Chu. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas, Antonin Scalia and Samuel Alito also weren't in attendance.

By choice or did we all just get lucky?

Tim Cook, chief executive of Apple Inc.

Oh yeah, the whole "Apple is gonna start making Macs in the US again" announcement.

Honestly the first time I'd heard of that deal.

We did get lucky.  Imagine if a disaster happened that did take out all in attendance at the address.  The entirety of our supreme court would be those 3 farks.

Scalia hasn't gone in years: he missed all of Dubya's and several of Clinton's. Alito and Thomas, I don't know.

Held a brief conversation this morning with my teabagger coworkers and framed it carefully around the necessity of raising the minimum wage, and all I got was:

"Your fast food's gonna go up."

By choice. They're still butthurt that Obama criticized Citizens United. They are children.

That's right. 4/5ths of the conservative wing of the court are emotional children. Nothing less.

So far, all I've heard about was raising the minimum wage and Marco Rubio drinking water. The SotU speech is so farking useless.

Did anyone else hear an attempted "You lie!" at the end of the big applause (I think it was just after the "they deserve a vote" refrain during the guns part of the speech)? I have no idea what she was trying to say, but I clearly heard a woman yell something - I assume it was some kind of challenge, but it could have been someone doing a Homer Simpson "Mono...d'oh!"

I would say that is just as accurate.

The guy I work next to is a teatard moron.  Yesterday morning he was talking to another coworker about wanting to go join some protest against the sequestration say that he wanted to hold a sign that said "DO YOUR JOB OBAMA!!"  I asked him if at this point shouldn't he be demanding congress do their job.  He responded with "Hurr, well, I don't think this is the place to discuss politics" and then followed up with "But I hate Obama, he refuses to compromise on anything."  I then asked if he shouldn't instead hate the Republicans in congress who filibuster their own bills and refuse to even admit the possibility of compromise to which he again responded with "Hurr, well, I don't think this is the place to discuss politics."

Republicans are children, plain and simple.

They said (on NBC, I think) that some woman waited until it quieted down before shouting " [name] deserves a vote!" She was removed, and there was no info on what name she shouted.

NY times has a picture of him. They say he frowned through most of it. Probably he was struggling to understand all the big words.

A Teatard at work was given notice on Monday.  Owner is retiring & company is restructuring, so we all knew a few positions would be eliminated or downsized.  She's been complaining since Monday at how screwed she is, how poor the economy is because of Obama, and nobody's hiring because of Obamacare, yadda yadda.

This morning she was talking about the SOTU and how much BS it was,how gov't spending is so high because of entitlement programs.  Then turned the conversation to unemployment since she'll have to go on it next week.  "But I'm not worried--in Obama's America, you can stay on unemployment FOREVER!"

Me:  "Wait--weren't you JUST complaining about people being lazy & staying on unemployment indefinitely?"
Her:  "Everybody does it!  Let the government take care of me for a change!"

/It's okay when they do it.

Ehhh, cut her some slack. I've been canned before, and it really sucks. But maybe it will illuminate her to why we have a safety net.  Anyway, she's losing her job, and unless she sucked at it and this is a stealth firing, it wasn't her fault.

So be nice. Offer to provide areference(unless she sucked). No need to stoop to the GOP's level

It's an interesting debate: Are republicans qualitatively deficient mentally or are they merely at the left hand end of a normal distribution of mental ability?
