offmymeds: Lattices aren't Distributive: And how exactly are roller coasters "interstate commerce"?

Maybe he's thinking about state fairs?

TFA says the opposite: he's going specifically for rides in fixed locations, not fairs that move around. But this is what the Commerce Clause has been stretched to, folks.

DerAppie: Ah politicians, do they ever think?

Except his complaint is that the new designs are pushing the limits of the materials being used to construct them.

I have exactly no education in or knowledge of structural engineering, but you're gonna look pretty silly if he's right and one day a whole bunch of new roller coasters open up and kill a whole bunch of people.

Regardless, taking NRO at its word is about as stupid as you can get. It's just as likely this is just some minor concern of his but they're focusing in on it like a laser to the exclusion of the entirety of the rest of his platform. Because they're dishonest cocks and that's the sort of thing they do.

Markey can be a jerk.  There used to be bunch of amusement parks in MA, but they all closed down except for 6 Flags, which used to be Riverside Park, and Canobie Lake Park in NH.  He had nothing to do with it, but when the economy isn't great, people do not go to amusement parks so much.

Oliver Twisted: So we should have government oversight of a problem that does not exist?

I don't know what "we" should do, but I'd suggest you should try increasing your IQ until you stop just believing whatever halfwit rags with a track of record of lying put into print on the internet for the purpose of scoring political points for the ideology they hold a bias toward.

Maybe the guy is a Nader-esque nut with no capacity for understanding scale and context. Maybe the NRO is just hyping up inconsequential bullshiat so they can slaver about LIBS! LIBS! LIBS!

Since I don't know anything about this politician, I can't really make any judgement on him. Since I've seen NRO fly off the handle like a bunch of sugared-up children pouring from an open minivan into a mall parking lot more times than I can count, however, I feel pretty confident in writing their position on it off until I see some evidence from a credible source.

Either way, though, I'm not going to care a whole lot. I didn't elect him, I can't vote him out, I don't really care about amusement parks to begin with and he's just one guy among hundreds in his institution anyway.

Let me know if something that matters happens.

thurstonxhowell: Just Another OC Homeless Guy: Oh, I see. "Senseless" and "sensible" are two of those words that are seriously affected by CONTEXT. (I am almost 100% certain that my next sentence will be gleefully taken out of context.) Given the goals and "morality" of the German National Socialists (Nazis), then, yes, the Holocaust was "sensible" (to them).

So you would agree that it is totally worth taking the time to correct someone for saying murdering millions of people was senseless?

Not at all.  He'll contort himself to defend a conservative in any event.

Just Another OC Homeless Guy: Diogenes: Just Another OC Homeless Guy: StrangeQ: NRO?  Aren't they the ones that just criticized Obama for calling Nazis "senseless" because they simple cannot allow themselves to agree with a single thing he says, ever?  Yeah, not making the mistake of clicking on one of their garbage links again.

What are you babbling on about?

"Nazism may have been an ideology to which the United States was - and to which the president is - implacably opposed, but it is hardly "senseless."

Those poor, misunderstood Nazis.  Good thing the NRO is there to defend them and their sensible goals.

Think of it in terms of sensory selectivity, as in http://www.fark.com/goto/7586573/http://www.npr.org/blogs/health/2013 / 02/11/171409656/why-even-radiologists-can-miss-a-gorilla-hiding-in-pla in-sight and http://www.fark.com/comments/7586573/82472436#c82472436

Holy fark, talk about a contrast between senseless/sensible.  You really can't do it, can you?  You farking pudding headed conservatives really can't take even the most mundane, agreeable, not containing any possible objectionable content statement the president makes and just agree with it without having your farking brains leak out of your ears.  You need farking help.

Took the kiddies there years ago. They had to shut the pool down for twenty minutes while the "floater" went through the filter system. It was off-putting.

NewWorldDan: FTFA:   If you're still moved to write your local representative to see if he can do anything to increase your life expectancy, then perhaps consider this first: Americans are 5,000 times more likely to be legally executed by their own government than to die on a roller coaster. Priorities, priorities.

Did the NRO really just take a shot at capital punishment?  Wow.

When they're against something, they go berserk and throw everything they can at it.  Even if it's contradictory to their established positions.

That's roughly how the NRO got to the point of saying the massive genocide of Jews and others by the Nazis was 'sensible.'

Obama's president, so capital punishment is being executed by the state. Next time a Rep is in charge, it will resume its status as removing turds from the gene pool.

You can have my roller coasters when you pry them from my cold dead hands.  I go to theme parks as often as possible and have ridden coasters thousands of times I'm far more likely to be injured in a car accident on the way to the park than on the ride.

/we need to do a farkoasterfest again.
