miss diminutive: miscreant: miss diminutive: CPT Ethanolic: Given that a normal guy can drink 4-5 beers in a sitting pretty easily, there's around 1000 calories on top of everything else he consumes that day.  If you think that taking in half the recommended daily calories over a few hours and then eating isn't going to put on weight, you're delusional.  If I go a month without drinking, I tend to drop around 10 lbs.

Drinking 4-5 anything (other than water) per day will probably give the same effect though.

I don't know... if I drink 4-5 Milk of Magnesia per day, I don't think I'd gain weight.

With all the diarrhoea, you'll be lucky if you have any bones left after a week.

What are you talking about?! It's milk! It says right there in the name. Any milk is GOOD for your bones.

/Then I could add some extra calories with 4 or 5 beer.

WinoRhino: But here's the real issue: calories are not the only problem. Alcohol does do two things in the body: it increases your appetite and makes you want to much on snack foods and other stuff which adds calories. Secondly, alcohol decreases your ability to burn fat effectively by up to 70%

THIS. No one, after drinking five Cokes or Gatorades or energy drinks, says at 2AM: "I could really go for a Denny's Grand Slam right about now."

Marcintosh: Who, reading Fark, has ever had "A" beer?  Ever?  Well, AFTER you move out of your parents basement . . .
24 beers in a case /  24 hours in a day.  Coincidence?

I lost 48 pounds after I learned to shut my mouth.

Sometimes you go out for A beer and have just one pint. You make it a good one though.

//and I have to go to the boobie squisher today for my first routine mammogram.

Excessive beer consumption can add too many calories to the diet, but the real problem is the alcohol content. The body typically will use the alcohol for "fuel" before burning fat for energy. So, the calories in the beer and other foods you consume get stored instead of being used for energy, and the fat stores don't get utilized, so they build up.

"In general, alcohol intake is associated with bigger waists, because when you drink alcohol, the liver burns alcohol instead of fat," says Michael Jensen, MD, an endocrine expert and obesity researcher with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Alcoholics who hit hard booze are generally thin because of poor overall health and diet.  Beer doesn't have the suppressive effect on your appetite so Beer drinker alcoholics tend to be overweight.  That is where the "myth" comes from.  It's observational.

Here's the thing, drinking too much is bad for you.  If you are going to drink, make it count and don't drink bullshiat beer.  AND don't try to fool yourself that it's any different than eating an entire freaking pie, because it isn't.

Alcohol has a diuretic effect and makes you drink more.

The beer belly is a myth the same way "weed makes you stupid," is a myth.

See I thought we were talking about beer. That sounds good, but it also sounds like the craft brew for someone who'd rather be drinking port.

We'll try again, Innis & Gunn.

Uh, I've never understood mere fat around the middle to be "beer belly". I've always thought of ascites (sometimes combined with fatness) is "beer belly". Ascites is when fluid leaks into the peritoneal cavity, creating that gross, distended, round belly you see on some guys. It's a symptom of cirrhosis of the liver.

So wait, it's my shiatty overall diet, and the amount of terrible-for-you food I eat that's making me fat and not the beer I drink?  This whole time I've been blaming the wrong culprit.  Thanks, internets.

Everyone knows that beer has negative calories if it's cold.

12 oz beer has about 11.5oz of water and about 0.5oz alcohol.
So, you have...
326 grams of water
11.7 grams of ethanol
And the...
specific heat of water is 4.18J/gK
specific heat of ethanol is 2.438 J/gK

So, the heat capacity of a can of beer is about 1400J/K

Now, let's say you have a really crap beer.  Coors Light, for example.
You'll want to drink that really cold so you don't taste it.  Figure 0 to 4C.
Now, before you piss it out it's going to reach your body temperature, so a deltaT of 33K to 37K
That's about 46200J warm it up before you see it again.  Assuming you don't puke.

4200J is about 1000 calories.
Coors light only has 102 Calories, so cold coors light actually has -900 calories per can!

I will point out this site:  http://getdrunknotfat.com/

Gives you the calorie to booze ratio of most every alcohol.

Drinking even one drink a day makes me gain weight.  It's not drink specific, it's the alcohol.  It's not unlimited weight gain but I will put on 10-15 pounds with no other change in my diet, exercise, etc.  I lose the weight if I don't drink anything at all.  It definitely has some sort of effect.

Not sure if trolling...
You even capitalized Calorie correctly. 1 Calorie = 1 kcalorie = 1000calories == Coors Light = 10200 calories

hahaha i'm only 206 lbs even though i eat out EVERY day.  see it has something to do with having a J.O.B.  no worrying about obesity over here (30.2 BMI)

The numbers would indicate you're about 5'9". If you're running 206 lbs, you're kidding yourself if you don't think obesity is a risk.

If you eat out at restaurants every day I'll wager your cholesterol and blood pressure are probably of more immediate concern.

Best of luck in the future. I hope that your overly optimistic self-image starts to fade eventually.
