House Speaker John Boehner Tuesday repeatedly challenged the president's willingness to go against his own party on issues that include reforms to social programs and spending.

"I think he'd like to deal with it [fiscal problems], but to do the kind of heavy lifting that needs to be done, I don't think he's got the guts to do it," the Ohio Republican said in a meeting with a small group of reporters for nearly an hour Tuesday morning. "He understands there is a spending problem. He understands that we need changes and reforms, and we need to solve these problems."

When pressed about the severity of that statement, he modified, saying the president does not have the "courage."

Obama can't help himself. He'll compromise. Too bad he's stuck in the echo chamber of DC.

To be perfectly fair, it does take a lot of courage to fark most of America in order to give billionaires more unearned loot.

I think there's a difference between "courage" and "knowing that you have to deal with a bunch of stubborn old men", but that's just the linguist in me. To be fair, Obama hasn't presented himself as agreat reformer of legislation, but it isn't as if Congress has been willing to at least listen to most (if any) of his suggestions.

What we need is a man with Chris Christie's personality and Anthony Weiner's ideology. There. I said it.

It doesn't matter who you have in The Oval Office, if there is a D after his/her title and name, the Republican MO is to be obstructionist.

So, noted crybaby Boehner is saying Obama doesn't have the "courage" to make hard decisions?

2013-02-12 02:46:53 PM
Once again Obama lacks the courage to ignore the platform the Democrats ran and won on and give the repubs exactly what they want. I guess where Boehner comes from the word "courage" means "stupidity."

2013-02-12 02:47:39 PM
Yes for John Boehner, because America needs a crybaby would would rather help the people who are well off than making sure the working man can afford keeping a roof over their heads. So much can be said for a man who reads the Bible and has a dollar in his hand, looks at a poor person on the ground wearing rags and behind him the oil baron in a neatly pressed suit, and can't help but smile when he walks over the man in rags to give the dollar to the oil baron.

all this "compromise" crap from the right is painful to hear/read. boehner knows damn good and well that rolling over for his farked up ideas isn't going to happen and all this posturing isn't helping him, the republicans or the country.

"I am not suggesting that this is easy," Boehner said, "but what I am suggesting is that he is the President of the United States. This is the biggest threat to our society."

Wait, I thought it was Benghazi... Oh, that was last week. How about Gay Marriage, isn't THAT the "biggest threat to our society"? wait, what's that? Oh, that was the week before. Jesus, wat does it take to get on this memo list, anyway? It's really hard to keep up with the Outrage DuJour without it.

Boehner said, "but what I am suggesting is that he is the President of the United States. This is the biggest threat to our society."

While the Republican base will like that he's named Obama being President is the biggest thread to our society, I don't think they'll appreciate him even SUGGESTING that he's really the President.

Sure didn't take Republicans very long to get from "respect the office" and "questioning the POTUS during wartime is treason" to "The President is the biggest threat to our society."   Hey GOP!  We can remember things you were insisting on fervently just eight years ago.  WTF is your problem?

2013-02-12 03:02:32 PM
"Today the White House released a detailed report outlining the consequences of the sequester proposed by and insisted on by President Obama. " - John Boehner

So which is it you dumbass? Obama is making too hard of cuts or he lacks the courage to make any?

Lost Thought 00: "It's the President's fault for not agreeing with us"

It's the President's fault for not resigning the presidency and returning to Kenya along with all the other Muslims, having Joe Biden not resign as well, not giving up the presidency to John Boehner, not telling other Democrats to resign, and not letting us Republicans do whatever we feel like doing to this country.

2013-02-12 03:04:23 PM
So then if he believes that the deficit is a bigger threat to society then tax increases or attacks from outside the US I guess he should have no problem with raising taxes or gutting defense spending should he?

Sorry, should have put that it in quotes  :-P I fixed it though :)

When will Obama start living up to the standards that Boehner has set for him?  The nerve of some people, I swear.

2013-02-12 03:06:54 PM
Isn't this just projection on Boehner's part? Seriously. It is Boehner and the Republicans making the most noise about the size of government and how it needs to be cut. Yet when it comes to discussing what to cut or how to cut it, they present nothing but generalizations. Rather they try to goad President Obama into proposing the cuts they want so they can shift the blame on the President. It is Boehner and the Republicans who do not have the guts to be associated with the cuts they wish to make, so they want to shift the "blame" on President Obama through petty political games.

Why is Mr. Orange complaining?  After all, he got 98% of what he wanted, right?

2013-02-12 03:11:22 PM
Real simple, the economy has been recovering.  Slower than most want, but still recovering at a steady rate (and most of the lag is due to reductions in government spending).  Letting sequestration take effect may very be enough to send us into another recession, while allowing the Republican's to blame Obama for it.

2013-02-12 03:12:24 PM
Translation: Why doesn't Obama have the "courage" to make the cuts the Republicans want but are too afraid to ask for themselves (medicare and social security).

2013-02-12 03:12:35 PM
Even if they literally slashed spending to $0, the GOP would still accuse Democrats of having a spending problem. That's who we're dealing with here.

Rann Xerox: Why is Mr. Orange complaining?  After all, he got 98% of what he wanted, right?

Remember now he is say sequestration was 100% Obama's. Which is amazing cause he is both blaming Obama for the cuts of sequestration AND saying Obama is too afraid to make big cuts.

And the sucky thing is the press won't point out the BS of the contradiction of these two opinions.

So. Boehner's side want's to cut taxes for rich people -- and take credit for it, and they also want 'spending' to be cut, but they don't want to take any blame for that. Understandable. Spending cuts, besides hurting the economy, make people mad.

Obama's side takes a look at all this spending and notices that cutting it would both be unpopular and would hurt the economy. They say 'how about no?'

Now Boehner's side is all mad, and they're basically saying "We're willing to make the tax cuts we want, why aren't you willing to make the spending cuts we also want?"

And he's saying that Obama needs to sack up? Dude, if you want cuts so bad, spell 'em out. We'll talk about it. Farking coward.

Grow a pair, asshole.

Dear Mr. Bonehead:

If you read your job description and/or the Constitution, you would know that Congress passes the budget. Not the President. He doesn't even have a line-item veto, so he CAN'T make cuts.
