just in time for tomorrow's clash, patrice evra is in the news.

poor patty, always the victim. i wonder what his wife did to drive him into the cold, cold arms of another woman.

also, it's nice to know he thinks england is the "shiattiest country in the world".

Patrice Evra: A guy who blames the coach for starting a mutiny of his own making.

Him, John Terry, William Gallas and Ashley Cole would've made a quartet of farking wastes of space.

If she's really old, tell her she already went to mass and just forgot.  Or the church burned down. Or she's not really religious.

Stupid mistake early on. Gutted at giving away yet another easy goal in Europe. Great energy and aggression going forward in the first half, though, and I'm hoping it can come together in the second half.

Juventus have been playing like absolute coonts, particularly while defending from corners. I'm stunned that Hooper was booked for being repeatedly fouled. Bawbags.

Liking my bet so far, nervous about those Celtic corners though, could totally see a penalty given outta one of those scrums at some point

Yeah that was total BS. Hooper should have been fine and Leichstein should have been a yellow+ or sent off. Not very surprised that Juve is complaining so much, just a bit disappointed. I expected it, but it's still annoying to see.

Celtic have been playing amazingly and done everything but score a goal. Wish Samaras was playing, because I think they'd have one already if that was the case.

Bollocks. Juve should have at least one player sent off and Celtic given a pk based on this horrendous corner marking and then Juve goes ahead and gets a second. Terrible refereeing, but good finish from Juve.

2013-02-12 04:25:25 PM
As a former defender in my younger days, I don't see any fouls on those corners. The strikers get away w/ so much pulling and grabbing and crap, nut up or shut up. It's a full contact sport. Corners are messy like that.

How? You drop three points to someone, you'll just pick them up somewhere else on the schedule and run off with the title anyway. Without Rangers around, you're just a medium-sized fish in a pond of plankton. Leagues aren't any fun when you know who's going to win them from Day 1. As it stands, the only time Celtic games matter for a hill of beans are when they're against non-domestic opponents. Your REAL opponents this season have been HJK Helsinki, Helsingborgs IF, Barcelona, Benfica, Spartak Moscow and Juventus.

And now you're 90 minutes away from your real season being over and getting sent back to your piddling little kiddie-pool Globetrotters-vs-Generals joke of a league. Enjoy.

That's a tad over dramatic.  Honestly, the only difference in the competitive balance for the titles of the EPL and the SPL this season is Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour Al Nahyan.  Without those two men,  both leagues would have been over on Day 1; the others would only be left to fight for the scraps--admittedly much richer scraps in the EPL, but still the scraps.  ...and even with those men, the EPL title was still effectively over by Christmas, unless United manage to piss it away for a second straight year.

The modern European leagues (at least the larger ones) are all very top heavy.  If you're not a fan of the one of these local powerhouses, you pretty much have to resign yourself to never winning the league indefinitely unless there's some dramatic economic shift in your favor. It's just the reality of the finances of the game these days.  What happened in Scotland could happen anywhere if one of the big teams collapsed financially.  You almost have to credit the SPL for not propping up Rangers or giving them no more than a slap on the wrist.  One does have to wonder what other leagues would do if one of their historic powerhouses found themselves in the same situation tomorrow...

2013-02-13 10:51:08 AM
Anyone who didn't feel bad for Celtic losing, is clearly a Rangers or Juve fan.  Great atmosphere and interest in a game that didn't involve English, Spanish, or German teams.

So they plan in a top heavy division and without any real competition their season was to be judged in the Champions League, it's just a shame that Juve was clearly the better team and absolutely ruthless in the last 10m of that game.

The SPL has its faults, but they were still worth rooting for in the Champions League (at least for neutrals).

I'm so excited and nervous!

I don't think United will go through, but they've saved some of their best performances/results for the biggest games (led 2-0 and won against City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and Liverpool). Spurs and Norwich, on the other hand ...

United's weaknesses are many and obvious, but this is where you want to be. This is ''the acid test,'' in Sir's words.

I feel like Real Madrid is the more appropriate "Yankees of soccer" than ManU. At least ManU develops some young talent, whereas Madrid fits the "buy our way to a title" image much better. Even the colors are more of a fit.

UEFA sold the streaming rights for the US to Fox.  You can still get streaming matches by subscribing at http://www.foxsoccer2go.com/  for $20 a month.  The video quality is better than the ones available from UEFA, but you can't just buy games a la carte anymore.  They do have a free trial available though.

NNah, I can't blame him. I sai last year that at 29, the next contract was likely his last and he'd be foolish (especially with his injury history) to not get as much as he could for himself. I also said that as much as I liked him, Arsenal would be foolish (especially with his injury history) to not get as much as they could for a player who was leaving. I just wished that he would have stayed and finished his career at Arsenal.

digistil: Not saying it makes it all square, but didn't he bring in a shiat-ton of money to Arsenal for the transfer?

He did, and I'm not complaining about that at all. His transfer fee paid for most of Cazorla, Podolski and Giroud, and I've liked all of them this season. But Arsenal probably could have had all four on the books without stressing their financial situation. Maybe it would have been a disaster, but at very least RvP wouldn't be netting goals for Man U.

ARGH! RvP should have scored that!

I thought it was in. What happened to RM's defense?

2013-02-13 04:15:29 PM
RVP blew it man... He's at there and watched it... Should have either hit it square or at least followed his shot.

nice to see van Mercenary scuff his point blank shot. biatch.

This game should quiet all the critics about De Gea. It won't, but it should.

2013-02-13 04:22:31 PM
De gea has been phenominal. I still don't get his acrobatic kick save, he didnt have to do that to save that goal at all.

2013-02-13 04:23:20 PM

Norfolking Chance: ScouserDuck: That was the last defender..could have been red.

Both refs in the games i have seen have "Howard Webb'd" it by not having the balls to card and send people off.

Funny you say that, because Webb is the ref in the other match going right now (Shakhtar 2-1 right now)

2013-02-13 04:26:05 PM
It's a shame that Gus Johnson has to sit through five years of this crap to get to the World Cup 2018 gig.

2013-02-13 04:28:37 PM
That's silly, to be able to do that from 40 yards out. I know it went over, but shiat, it's still impressive.

2013-02-13 04:28:44 PM
Holy crap that ball had movement on it.

That RM player was hit so hard that he barrel rolled 7 times after hitting the turf......or perhaps it was the same guy that exaggerated to get RVP a yellow. What a douche.

Little known fact: Spanish has 137 words for "dive"

The other game looks pretty entertaining. Back and forth, back and forth. 2-2 now after a 90th minute goal.

Why am I not surprised Evra is BFFs w/ Ronaldo?

It's been a really long time that I've seen the ref called it before the corner is taken. Still, great result for United.

Yep, he should have stayed in Arsenal to play for those 4th place trophies that Wenger says counts as something.

I don't know... Ramos got multiple dives to turn into yellows for the opposing team.

Or try to build something with people who stood behind him when he was an asshole with talent, who always got hurt, while still being paid ridiculously well.

I know it's a business, but Christ.

meanyogurt: Sachbash: Last season uefa let you pay to stream replays of ucl games for $2 on their website, now it just says "the replay service has been suspended". Fark you uefa for regressing service

I live in canada though, and thus ineligible for foxsoccer2go. Not sure who our streaming rights got sold to...

great game though between RM/MU. Poor result for madrid though as they now face the second leg away on march 5, right after playing a midweek cup game and weekend league game both against barca (feb 26, mar 2)

Enjoyed that. Welbeck and De Gea were great, both have outstanding potential. Though I wish someone would teach Dave how to catch the ball occasionally rather than punch. Rooney had one of those games where it's laughable that he's our best-paid player. I really don't like him :-)

Cristiano Ronaldo's goal was magnificent.

Can't wait for the second leg.

as i said earlier, on the page that i used to purchase match replays, it just says "the replay video service has been suspended". And when i try and purchase the live streams it just directs me to the front page of sportsnet, which does not offer any streaming...

To be fair, Rooney was playing out of position on the left so it wasn't exactly his natural position (striker) or natural support position (CAM). He did screw up a few passes though, but I thought he did better in the second half.

Agree with both assessments of Welbeck and De Gea. Hoping Sir Alex backs De Gea, but tells him he needs to eat more burritos and put on about 20 pounds of muscle so he can move people out of the way.

The most surprising thing from the match I thought was how well the defense did at stymieing (haha I spelled it correctly here) RM's offense or at least good looks on goal.

You're right.  We also have to listen to the constant whining from LFC fans about a myriad of imagined issues so we should be used to it by now!

It might be that De Gea didn't learn to be a keeper in Britain. I used to play in goal at school and even at that level you know that it's almost impossible to give up a penalty no matter what you do. SAF should get a lower league keeper to show DG how to deal with the likes of Shawcross.

I always find it funny how self important Spanish journalists are. If the players and coaches don't bow down and worship the ground they walk on they get right humpy.

Whining about our teams inability to put the farking ball in the goal is not whining about an imagined issue! It's real to us, damnit!

Rooney has played out of position a million times before. He's 27 now, he's supposed to be at his peak. He should relish games like this (moreso than most other games he's privileged to play in for United). He's just so frequently so disappointing.

It's Dave's inability to catch the ball from crosses when he's unchallenged that bothers me. It's been nearly two years, and none of the coaching staff seem to be telling him to catch rather than punch. It just puts more pressure on his own weakness.

This is making me sound much grumpier than I am. I'm actually in a great mood today. And not just because of the card I sent to myself ...
