The owl was reportedly doing fine

My ass. Editors will automatically say that about dead animals because nothing brings out the lunatics like an animal-in-peril story. I know it's alive in the picture, but I doubt it's alive right now.

I don't know, looks okay from here. Unless it had to be put down because of rabies or something.

On our honeymoon we went to Glenwood Springs, Co (we were poor and so a train ride and a nice hotel was all we could do - the train from Denver to Glenwood is awesome tho).  When walking to the hotsprings pool a bird dove down and pegged my wife in the shoulder and then flew off.  Fortunately it wasn't beak first.
When we were at the pool putting our towels down, I looked up and saw the same damn bird circling.
"BIRD!" I shouted
My wife dove into the grass.  If she didn't the bird would have hit her square in the chest.

Great horneds are pretty resilient.

Also they are known to kill and eat prey as large as 40 pounds.

she said it didn't move while she approached it, leading me to believe it was standing on the road, not flying by, which could have let it minimize impact if it flew in same direction as the truck. so she hit a stationary animal st 60 mph with a freaking suv and it doesn't have a scratch on  it ? what the hell are those birds made out of ? I would like some grafted into my skeleton...

They do have a lot of fluff on them. Maybe it worked like a cushion.

Those eyes on a decal sticker will be the next new craze.  Imagine the look on the driver's face in front of you as they see those eyes peering at them through the rear-view mirror.

Some owls' feathers are thick enough to protect them from venomous snake bites, since they hunt snakes.  If that helps any.

/plus it is winter time and may have its winter coat on
