My Sister's Keeper. Good lord, there should have been a warning.

I saw Carrie when it first came out.  A couple days later my date wanted to see it, so off we go.  Remember at the end, when all is sad and melancholy at the grave, then the hand comes out of the ground?  I reached around behind her and grabbed her shoulder when that hand came out.

She never went out with me again :(

I was sure "The Accused" would have made the list.

4. "Rosemary's Baby"

Wife and I watched this on a date when long before we got married. Nothing wrong with it at all. Good for Halloween-time horror/thriller movie dates.

8. "Swimfan"

No one should watch this movie for any reason, date or otherwise.

15. "Play Misty for Me"

False. Jessica Walter.

8. "Swimfan"
Sure.  That's the moment your date realizes you're a half-wit with terrible taste in movies.

The Dark Knight.

No I'm not trolling. It was such an engrossing movie that my date didn't want to leave to go to the bathroom and miss anything. He was literally twitching in his seat for most of the movie and when he finally decided to go (during the scene where the Joker is talking to Dent in the hospital) he tripped in the dark and fell over in the aisle. I found out after the movie that he actually wet his pants a bit during the fall. He tried to hide the stain but the smell was still there.

There was no second date.

I don't normally do chick flicks, but I decided I'd see one with my wife, and then maybe we'd get the sexy time later. I let her pick the movie, but she decided that she'd be nice to my tastes in movies and went for a straight-up comedy instead without realizing my romantic intentions. She picked Knocked Up. It was not conducive to sexy time.

There was no second date. It was incredibly awkward, because we had been online friends for about 2 years at that point.

Dr Dreidel: Requiem for a Dream

This is probably a You Had To Be There story, a CSB if you will, but at a party back in college my buddy leans over to me and asks, "Want to see me empty out this party?"  Sure, why not.  So, he plays Requiem and within 20-30 minutes the party had cleared out.

Snotnose: I saw Carrie when it first came out.  A couple days later my date wanted to see it, so off we go.  Remember at the end, when all is sad and melancholy at the grave, then the hand comes out of the ground?  I reached around behind her and grabbed her shoulder when that hand came out.

She never went out with me again :(

/ still can't hear out of that ear

I went to see "Carrie" on a first date. Bad choice. Not because of the patented Brian de Palma moment at the end, oh no. But because of the gross-out Stephen King, girls-in-the-locker-room first period moment at the beginning. I was 19 at the time, but still found myself VERY thankful that movie theaters are dark. My date and I never spoke of that moment, even though we dated for another 4 months.

Ugh.

Haven't dated any 'sensitive' men, have you? My choice of films shows just how crass I am. Truth be told, had I known  his real story and the content of the film, I'd have probably trolled him with it anyway. Imagine the family gatherings. No intention of spending any holidays with that clan.

rickythepenguin: kronicfeld: False. Jessica Walter.

yeah.  i just watch PMFM last week. god she was hot back in the day.  and love her on "Archer".

A couple months after PMFM was released, it made it to the campus circuit - so I could see it for free at the student union. You'd think I would have been aware of what it was about.

So I took Barb G. to the film, our first date. Since it was early September in the South, I was wearing shorts. I still have the scars on the top of my right thigh where she grabbed me when Walter came out with the knife. Never knew girls' fingernails could cut like that.

The romantic relationship never recovered, but we are still friends and still laugh about walking over to the infirmary to get my leg cleaned and bandaged.

Fano: A Clockwork Orange?

CSB time...
Was involved in an on again/off again kinda thing for awhile. During one of the on times (or maybe the tail end of an off period don't remember), was over at her place to watch a movie. She suggested something neither of us had seen or A Clockwork Orange. Seeing as I wasn't really interested in watching a movie, (nudge nudge wink wink), and if she put on something new we'd end up actually watching it, you can guess which I went with. I have to say making out with a girl while a bit of the old ultra-violence plays in the background has to be one of the more surreal experiences in life.

I took a first date to see a revival of Andy Warhol's "Trash".  Early on there is a long scene where a woman fellates a guy while griping that he is a junkie who can't get it up.  That paled in comparison to the scene where a woman has sex with a beer bottle, not to mention the violent rape scene.

We dated for about a year.  She was strange.

Worst first-date movie for me had to be Sleeping With The Enemy. The date was good, the movie was okay, but my date really wanted to see it and it had already gone over to the cheap cinema. Probably doesn't count but I took a girlfriend to go see Save The Last Dance. She apparently did some ballet as a kid so she was interested in seeing it. After 90 minutes of awful film, she had nothing else to say for the whole night except complaints about the technical inaccuracies. Among other things, she didn't get how a girl who wants to get into Juliard can't fake her way through a dance at a club.

There was no poon that night. I went to bed first.

I don't understand the set of hoops the "date movie" must pass through. Unless you're there as part of some ChristianSingles.com hoverhand extravaganza type affair, if things go well, you'll both be swapping bodily fluids and violating each other later on in the evening. But somehow the entertainment in the darkened Foreplay Room must be completely inoffensive and noncontroversial.

I once took a chick to the horrible Planet of the Apes remake, not because I carefully weighed the possible content of the film production we were about to see (though had I thought about it, it might have been useful as a lead-in to how okay with abortions I am), but because it was a couple of hours in a darkened room where we didn't have to make awkward conversation and we could start to address why were both hanging out that evening in the first place.

Perhaps I'm crass and unromantic, but if someone's sensibilities are such that seeing a boob or an act of violence in a dramatic production makes them forget that they want to f*ck, you probably shouldn't be on a date with them anyway.

Dead Ringers.  Watched that the very same day that my girlfriend had "a procedure" for endometriosis.  Roommate had rented it and left it in the VCR.  We got home from the hospital and were in the mood to just curl up on the couch and watch a film.  It was painfully uncomfortable, but it was so inappropriate that by the time the "devices" were shown we both started laughing and couldn't stop.  Never should have lost that one.

Lilya 4-Ever (2002)
Winter Light (1963
Waterloo Bridge (either the 1931 or 1940 version)

All good movies. But not at all what I'd view to get to know somebody. And I'd be kinda wary of any date who suggested them or got off on 'em.

If they're not wincing or streaming tears or asking you to please turn it off and go do something less depressing, I'd run for the hills.

havocmike: Movies are terrible for dates anyway. They dominate the attention you should be giving to each other.

No wonder you're all single.

No. Movies are great for after you've been hanging out in other places earlier in the date.

Especially if the movies are only marginally entertaining.

/drinks + hanging out + dimly lit, mostly empty theater = good times

I had a guy take me to Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me as a first date. Twin Peaks was my favorite TV Show high school. He didn't have a clue that it was a from TV series, he thought I was a really weird for wanting to watch the movie. It was our only date, he just didn't get David Lynch.

I'm sincerely happy for you in finding a lifemate who matches you and your tastes.

I, on the other hand had a (blind) date where the viewing of that film...well, allow it to suffice that it didn't end well for anybody involved. Protip: don't watch it with those who have had "poor childhoods" (euphemism.) and need (but have not yet had) lots of deep, professional therapy.

First date with a girl that I was crushing on in college but didnt know very well - Monty Python's Meaning Of Life - it was a little awkward at first(obviously) - but by the time they got to Every Sperm Is Sacred we were both laughing so damn hard and the rest of the night was so damn easy...
The More You Know:Every girl that I watched Bram Stokers "Dracula" with back in the day was very DTF by the end of that movie in spite of Keanu Reeves....

We had been out with our common group of friends before, but in what must have been our first "date" alone together, she chose "Blackhawk Down".

I really didn't feel happy or horny or whatever after that movie.

It was not a blind date, just a first date after years of knowing each other. He only liked mainstream stuff, I bet to this day he has yet to see an independent movie. It was his fault he let me choose.

I in fact watched this movie for the first time in high school with a girl I had been dating for a couple months. The FIRST rape scene went ok, but I think both of us became very uncomfortable with the one that ends with the gang fight.

Same.
Had a crush on this guy I worked with and one day he was like "on my way to see a movie, want to come?" I said yes because it was the first time we'd hung out outside of work. Afterwards he said "well there's a movie that makes you not want to have a relationship."
It definitely cooled the crush for a while.

I'm a little late to the party here, but-

I once capped off a romantic Valentine's Day dinner/stroll through the park by choosing to watch the documentary Jonestown: The Life and Death of the People's Temple when he got back to her place.  Somehow it killed the mood.

Haven't had a bad date movie in theaters, but my last girlfriend and I rented a movie on the way home from our first date dinner. That movie "Twilight." She hadn't read the books, but her friends wouldn't stop yammering about it.

Fortunately 10 minutes in, she whispered in my ear, "This sucks, wanna see what's on HBO?" We turned off the movie and changed the channel right as "Shawn of the Dead" was coming on. Somehow, that flipped her switch and she was on me before it got to the record throwing scene.

If it hadn't been for the redhead = crazy fact, she would have been a keeper.

Then the writer / wife.

Then the biddy with the rocking penis sculpture.

The writer/wife and the biddy with the sculpture went ok, because they had some surreal humor to the situation, but that gangfight rape was just plain brutal. I can't remember the order, but I remember that scene had us both feeling awkward.

I've done the following as first date movies.

Monster - there was no second date

Along Came Polly - no connection. Think she hooked up with a coworker.

Then I realized movies on a first date are terrible. Created a rule that there would be no movie for at least a month.

/fiancé and I have seen one move in the theater (breaking dawn pt.2)
//realized that my failed dates in Virginia led to my coworkers getting action. I guess I used to bring in the ladies but didn't know how to close the deal. That changed :)

I see Boogie Nights has been mentioned, heres my 2 cents. I took a girl  to see this on a first date. It pretty much ended up like that scene in Taxi Driver when DeNiro takes Shepard to that porn theater.

miss diminutive: The Dark Knight.

Holy crap, just saw this comment. I saw this movie with a friend of mine who I had a bit of a thing with (but it was over by the time we saw this movie). He started fidgeting in his seat during the movie and when I asked what was wrong, he said he had to pee. I encouraged him to go because he was pretty gassy for a while and it smelled horrible. Like, I actually gagged once. Anyway, we never hung out again after that.

Saw Django Unchained again last night. There was a young couple on a date. They both seemed to enjoy the movie, but the girl was clearly scared and squeemish about some of the violence. I remember her covering her face during the sheriff scene. Oddly, she did pretty well after that, even with all that grotesque stuff that continues to build.

Why leave during the hospital scene? That was one of the best parts of that whole trilogy.
