My ex and I craigslisted a hookup for each of us one night... the four of us sat down to watch a movie before we got to it.

Prozac Nation.

That was awkward.

I forget why we each wanted to see it.

Not a good first date movie, but I do love that film.  Elizabeth Pena was so hot.  Well... until...

Yeah...the end of that scene was definitely a boner killer

Me & a buddy of mine went & saw the first jackass movie on premiere night. We were one of a few of the "older crowd". Everybody was laughing & cutting up and the movie gradually got worse. A young couple was sitting next to us. The girl was visibly uncomfortable in the scene when the guy stuck the Hot Wheel up his ass. My buddy leaned over and told her, "Great first date movie isn't it?" She failed to find the humor in the movie or my friend so they left.

You're very probably not going to have sex following viewings of any of these

Spider (2002)
The War Zone (1999)
Umberto D. (1952)
The War Zone (1999)
The Cement Garden (1993)
The Grey Zone (2001)
Twin Peaks - Fire Walk With Me (1994)
Nil By Mouth (1997)
The Best Years of Our Lives (1946)
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas (2008)
Sophie's Ghoice (1982)
Lilya 4-Ever (2002)
Winter Light (1963
Waterloo Bridge (either the 1931 or 1940 version)

All good movies. But not at all what I'd view to get to know somebody. And I'd be kinda wary of any date who suggested them or got off on 'em.

If they're not wincing or streaming tears or asking you to please turn it off and go do something less depressing, I'd run for the hills.

havocmike: Movies are terrible for dates anyway. They dominate the attention you should be giving to each other.

No wonder you're all single.

No. Movies are great for after you've been hanging out in other places earlier in the date.

Especially if the movies are only marginally entertaining.

/drinks + hanging out + dimly lit, mostly empty theater = good times

I had a guy take me to Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me as a first date. Twin Peaks was my favorite TV Show high school. He didn't have a clue that it was a from TV series, he thought I was a really weird for wanting to watch the movie. It was our only date, he just didn't get David Lynch.

I'm sincerely happy for you in finding a lifemate who matches you and your tastes.

I, on the other hand had a (blind) date where the viewing of that film...well, allow it to suffice that it didn't end well for anybody involved. Protip: don't watch it with those who have had "poor childhoods" (euphemism.) and need (but have not yet had) lots of deep, professional therapy.

First date with a girl that I was crushing on in college but didnt know very well - Monty Python's Meaning Of Life - it was a little awkward at first(obviously) - but by the time they got to Every Sperm Is Sacred we were both laughing so damn hard and the rest of the night was so damn easy...
The More You Know:Every girl that I watched Bram Stokers "Dracula" with back in the day was very DTF by the end of that movie in spite of Keanu Reeves....

We had been out with our common group of friends before, but in what must have been our first "date" alone together, she chose "Blackhawk Down".

I really didn't feel happy or horny or whatever after that movie.

It was not a blind date, just a first date after years of knowing each other. He only liked mainstream stuff, I bet to this day he has yet to see an independent movie. It was his fault he let me choose.

mjohnson71: Saw "Se7en" on a first date the weekend it came out. She insisted on seeing it because she liked Brad Pitt but I kept telling her I didn't have a good feeling about this.

/What's in the box!

The girls picked that as the movie to watch after our senior prom.

kumanoki: On a related note, it was really uncomfortable watching the first ten minutes of Jerry McGuire with her parents.

I saw Unfaithful with my mom and 15 year old cousin. Awkward.

Took a girl to see "Streetcar Named Desire" on a first date.

Boy that was awkward.

Also "Boy in the Striped Pajamas."

I in fact watched this movie for the first time in high school with a girl I had been dating for a couple months. The FIRST rape scene went ok, but I think both of us became very uncomfortable with the one that ends with the gang fight.

2013-02-12 11:16:38 PM
I took a girl to see 'All's Quiet on the Western Front', and
boy was it...

tricycleracer: 13. "Revolutionary Road"

I knew this had to be in the list.

Same.
Had a crush on this guy I worked with and one day he was like "on my way to see a movie, want to come?" I said yes because it was the first time we'd hung out outside of work. Afterwards he said "well there's a movie that makes you not want to have a relationship."
It definitely cooled the crush for a while.

I'm a little late to the party here, but-

I once capped off a romantic Valentine's Day dinner/stroll through the park by choosing to watch the documentary Jonestown: The Life and Death of the People's Temple when he got back to her place.  Somehow it killed the mood.

2013-02-13 12:07:31 AM
Just wanted to add "Pan's Labyrinth." What a farking downer.

2013-02-13 12:44:37 AM
Haven't had a bad date movie in theaters, but my last girlfriend and I rented a movie on the way home from our first date dinner. That movie "Twilight." She hadn't read the books, but her friends wouldn't stop yammering about it.

Fortunately 10 minutes in, she whispered in my ear, "This sucks, wanna see what's on HBO?" We turned off the movie and changed the channel right as "Shawn of the Dead" was coming on. Somehow, that flipped her switch and she was on me before it got to the record throwing scene.

If it hadn't been for the redhead = crazy fact, she would have been a keeper.

I thought the gang fight one was the first.

Then the writer / wife.

Then the biddy with the rocking penis sculpture.

The writer/wife and the biddy with the sculpture went ok, because they had some surreal humor to the situation, but that gangfight rape was just plain brutal. I can't remember the order, but I remember that scene had us both feeling awkward.

I've done the following as first date movies.

Monster - there was no second date

Along Came Polly - no connection. Think she hooked up with a coworker.

Then I realized movies on a first date are terrible. Created a rule that there would be no movie for at least a month.

/fiancé and I have seen one move in the theater (breaking dawn pt.2)
//realized that my failed dates in Virginia led to my coworkers getting action. I guess I used to bring in the ladies but didn't know how to close the deal. That changed :)

The Entity
Species
Last House on the Left (either version. The wife forcing the guy's hand into the garbage disposal was brutal)

I picked "that roller disco movie" Boogie Nights on a 1st date once. I had no clue what it was about. After that scene at the end, it was quite awkward. But we ended up dating for 4 years and are still friends. I think it amused him.
