13. "Revolutionary Road"

I knew this had to be in the list.

2013-02-12 01:32:00 PM
I took my new wife to the premere of David Lynch's Wild at Heart - I told her it was a romantic comedy.  I was not allowed to pick a date night movie for a year.

Play, not a movie, but...

Decent joke.

Took a guy to see "South Park". He stormed out during " Uncle F*cker". After pointing out how insensitive and thoughtless my film choice was, he confessed that he'd been abused by his own uncle for several years, between the ages of 17 and 22.

"May" is one of my wife's favourite movies... also "Secretary", which *would* make a great first-date movie! If Maggie Gyllenhal getting spanked by James Spader doesn't turn her crank, nothing will, right?

My wife and I went on a date to see No Country for Old Men, she is still talks about that.

The All-Powerful Atheismo: wellreadneck: between the ages of 17 and 22.

God damn teach him to fight back.  He was old enough.

Teach him to fight back? I'm the one who blurted out "That's not abuse, that's an affair".

I watched Zodiac in the theater on a date with an absolutely stunning but overly-religious, helicopter-parented redhead a couple of years ago.  She sat bolt upright the entire time and was probably mortally terrified but she didn't want to leave.  After the movie we went for a country drive and were caught by a cop in a local park on the verge of having sex in my car.  Best date ever!

Did you stab her at the end?  Just to show her how realistic of a portrayal it was?

CSB: Our first date was a blind, double-date at the drive in. This was the second movie shown. Neither of us remembers what the first movie was. We all gave the movies the MST3K treatment, and we laughed our asses off all night. She and I been married almost 18 years now, and we still manage to make each other laugh.

Legends of the Fall. While I didn't get laid, thankfully it wasn't our first date.

Not a movie but infinity points for reference.

simplicimus: War of the Roses is not on the list?

Good point.  I'd also add The Whistleblower.  (True story about human trafficking staring Rachel Weisz).

16 worst movies - Because 15 is too few and 17 is too many...

"Young Adam"

CSS: I told the date "If there is one more random, gross sex scene, we're leaving and I wanna go home"... Sure enough.

2013-02-12 01:54:37 PM

Mega Steve: Also adding The Brown Bunny. I have never seen anything as creepy as the blowjob scene.

Then again, Vincent Gallo seems like a huge creeper, himself. He looks like he'd leave an oily stain behind where ever he sat down.

DonkeyDixon: I dare anyone to watch Irreversible on a first date

I've seen both of these on first dates.
/I do it on purpose.

Saw Chuck and Buck on a date, not the first one though.  Got the ole stink finger though.  Creepy movie though.

Dated a gal back in the late 1999. Took her to see "American Beauty." Turned out she was the widow of a minor celeb who shot himself. Found this out a couple of months later.

/damn was that a dumb move.

2013-02-12 01:56:51 PM

Snotnose: I saw Carrie when it first came out.  A couple days later my date wanted to see it, so off we go.  Remember at the end, when all is sad and melancholy at the grave, then the hand comes out of the ground?  I reached around behind her and grabbed her shoulder when that hand came out.

She never went out with me again :(

/ still can't hear out of that ear

I went to see "Carrie" on a first date. Bad choice. Not because of the patented Brian de Palma moment at the end, oh no. But because of the gross-out Stephen King, girls-in-the-locker-room first period moment at the beginning. I was 19 at the time, but still found myself VERY thankful that movie theaters are dark. My date and I never spoke of that moment, even though we dated for another 4 months.

Ugh.

I have seen a whole one (1) of those movies.

NuttierThanEver: No Serbian Film?

You know that is the first film I thought of and no one should ever have to see that movie on a date or otherwise. I lost a piece of my soul on that one.

List fails without The Crying Game.

2013-02-12 01:58:47 PM
After a couple weeks, I decided to test the girl I was dating to see if she's a keeper, so I rented Street Trash.

We've been married almost 15 years now.

Took my first and current wife to see JFK back in the day.  She wore me out later that night.

Any Richard Yates based story should never be confused with a light whimsical rom-com.

If you didn't know his backstory, how was your movie choice insensitive and thoughtless? Besides, it's not like you KNEW Uncle Farker was going to be in the movie.

This thread is about awful movies to watch on a first date, pal. You fail.

// if you want crappy Mike Myers movies, why not Halloween 3?

Yeah, when I had just turned 17, I though it'd be cool to take someone out to see an R rated movie on a first date.

I chose FATAL ATTRACTION. There was no second date.

D'OH!

Not a good first date movie, but I do love that film.  Elizabeth Pena was so hot.  Well... until...

Sling Blade.

worst movie choice for a date ever.  It was a getting back together date & i think that movie ruined the entire relationship.

end of  that relationship romantically, we are still friends.

My friend and I went to see that and his girlfriend at the time didn't know what it was about and invited herself (probably b/c she heard us talking about going to the strip club after). Well, lets say that was an awkward car ride after.

That movie was truly disturbing.  Gave me nightmares for months.

My worst first date movie was Silence of the Lambs.  Must have been a bold move....married 20 years.

Oldboy.

Haven't dated any 'sensitive' men, have you? My choice of films shows just how crass I am. Truth be told, had I known  his real story and the content of the film, I'd have probably trolled him with it anyway. Imagine the family gatherings. No intention of spending any holidays with that clan.
