A date? Who has time for that when Mom keeps making me clean the basement.

2013-02-12 12:54:05 PM
On our first date, my wife and I made it about halfway through Munich before switching to The Big Lebowski

hmm, replace Swimfan on the list with the movie where the woman gets raped on the pinball machine

2wolves: I was set up for a blind date. The movie was "Caligula."

The middle class flocked to see Deep Throat to show how liberated they were.  I missed that but I've always kept a copy for movie night

When we were still dating, my wife took me to see a midnight showing of Faces of Death.  We're still married 17 years later.  But that girl always was a little off (which is good, otherwise she never would have been interested in me).

mjohnson71: Saw "Se7en" on a first date the weekend it came out. She insisted on seeing it because she liked Brad Pitt but I kept telling her I didn't have a good feeling about this.

/What's in the box!

My wife's and I first date was to see Se7en.

My wife and I were spectacularly bad at choosing date movies when we first started dating. Topping our list were  Nell and Eyes Wide Shut.

My last first-date movie.

Be assured, if Michelle Williams is starring in it, the romantic relationship of the leads is going to work out horribly for everyone. (Blue Valentine, Take This Waltz, Brokeback Mountain).

Dr Dreidel: Requiem for a Dream

This is probably a You Had To Be There story, a CSB if you will, but at a party back in college my buddy leans over to me and asks, "Want to see me empty out this party?"  Sure, why not.  So, he plays Requiem and within 20-30 minutes the party had cleared out.

More booze and Mary J for us!

macadamnut: The aptly named Nightmare Before Christmas was a disaster.

That's a love story.  i don't get it.  Jack and Sally, hello?

The Slush: On our first date, my wife and I made it about halfway through Munich before switching to The Big Lebowski

first date was watching TV?

I mean, Munich was what, 2009, and TBL was like, 1995.

kumanoki: Eyes Wide Shut.

My father is a huge Kubrick fan so he rented it when it was just he and I at home for the weekend. He turned it off at the masked orgy part...I still haven't seen the end of that movie.

/shudder

yanceylebeef: List fails without Happiness or Gummo.

Yeah.  How in the heck does Gummo not make the list.

"Come on, babe.  It's from the maker of Kids."

Gummo.

I went to see "Carrie" with two girls. When the arm popped they both grabbed me and wouldn't let go for the rest of the night.  Worked out great for me if you know what I mean.  I think you do.

Looking for Mr. Goodbar.

Although riddled with sexual scenes it still manages to be non-wood inducing.

Showgirls

/my boyfriend (now fiance) bought this at the Virgin Mega store when i was with him and they had to do a price check
//we now watch it and debate about different scenes and how well shot they are and about the general directing in the film

That's like a perfect storm of sexual ambivalence.

Friend of mine got laid off from my company.
Figured we go to the movies to get out and feel better.
The movie we picked - Up in the Air.
She didn't know what it was about - I FORGOT what it was about.
30 seconds in and fun night was OVER.

2005 and 1998.  After dinner out we rented Munich and took it back to my place.  I already had TBL on dvd.

On a related note, it was really uncomfortable watching the first ten minutes of Jerry McGuire with her parents.

My husband took me to see "Fight Club" on our first date. Obviously there was a second date so not as bad a move as one might think. And gave us an interesting topic for afterward.

tortilla burger: Requiem for a Dream?

That movie makes me physically ill. Watching it makes me feel like I've done a lot of bad drugs.

FTA: "Swimfan"

then shows up as his house for an awkward meeting with his mom.

Wow!  Sounds better than I thought!

Ours was the midnight showing of Serenity. And then a couple years later we watched it again at GenCon, which is where we met.

Watching movies at home is way better. That way you can pause it and f*ck.

I took a girl out to see Samual L Jackson's remake of Shaft.

We didn't date again.

I've also had excellent results from Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Another dreadful error: Velvet Goldmine. Unless you're gay, in which case knock yourselves out.

Summer of Sam certainly didn't do me any favors.

Also adding The Brown Bunny. I have never seen anything as creepy as the blowjob scene.

Then again, Vincent Gallo seems like a huge creeper, himself. He looks like he'd leave an oily stain behind where ever he sat down.

I was going to say that, too, but then I remembered all the hot chicks that used to show up at the midnight screenings :)

I took a girl to see one of the Wes Craven movies, it was so bad we both decided to just walk out of it.  Surprisingly, it worked out well. We made out in the parking lot of the theater. I'mstill mad at the security guard that drove up and made us leave.

Oh! We went to see The Cell. You remember that one? It had J-Lo and Vincent D'Onofrio. No? Great visual effects. No? Eviscerated horse behind glass? Great date movie.....
