xria: You wonder if in a few decades time the US is really going to come a cropper due to this stuff - global economic competition is becoming stiffer every year as most of the "developing" nations (including massively populous ones like India and China) are starting to build up significant educational infrastructure, which will eat ever more up the food chain of skilled jobs. It is hard not to assume that hamstringing learning of sciences for larger and larger portions of the US population every year is going to crater the US's position in the world - especially as the most obvious next big leap forward is going to be biotechnology, so a country that is divided over something as well established and basic as evolution is going to be as crippling as if one of the nations trying to win the space race back in the 20th century wasn't sure if gravity exists.
