ancient salt beds below the North Coast that have formed layers of up to two-hundred feet thick and extend 2-3 miles out into Lake Erie.

Idiots.  a low salt diet has been shown to make ZERO difference in health.
specifically:  low-salt diet was found to lower blood pressure by...... ONE POINT

120/80   -->  119/79 and your food all sucks forever.

If salt was bad, farmers would not put a salt lick out for their livestock.
if salt was bad, people who lived near the ocean would have a shorter average life span.

The only reason to lower salt intake is if you have hypertension.  In this case, a low-salt diet helps.  Any doctor or study that tells you otherwise is living in the 1980's.
