"When we find someone who is a repeat criminal, sooner or later we're going to catch them and hold them accountable," said Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein.

I thought he hadn't been convicted before, how was he a repeat criminal?  Biased U.S. Attorney is biased.

This.

FTFA: Investigators have thought repeatedly over the years that they had airtight evidence against Moore - only to be thwarted by acquittals...

Damn those juries, why won't they stop thwarting the police department's efforts and just convict the people who the police say are guilty?

I'd imagine most of the drugs found in his place were from the local police department stash, or perhaps borrowed from a partnering government program.

/I'm sure this guy is a turd, but this sounds like a set-up

Its not a set-up. In DC we LOVE the dippers. Of course, I say "we" figuratively.

It may well be a set up, but it strikes me as extremely foolish to ask for a bench trial and then claim that the cops planted everything. That is the sort of thing I imagine a jury might buy but a judge rarely or never would.

A .44 caliber semiauto pistol?  Not saying that's necessarily wrong-- they do exist-- but that's pretty rare, afaik.  There's the Desert Eagle but no other common ones come to mind.  And that one's not even all that common.
