I got the same results out of Google when I tried to find the integral of e^x.

Finally, math that actually makes sense.

Awesome. Now I can search for porn and if I forget to delete the search from my google toolbar, my wife won't know what I'm doing

First return: Sleazy Riders and the pop-up is a clever sales pitch that uses sex and the threat of a disappearing offer.

I searched, it returned 8 porn sites and 1 bit torrent link for a jazz@celtics game.  must have been a dirty game.

I do not understand why Google is so afraid of showing porn when safesearch is turned off. Do they think breasts are gross or something?

Only for 4's. Try the same equations with 5; you'll get results.

I just tried it as written in the link. it worked just as listed in the link. of note, the calculator returns the wrong result. why doesn't the article mention that?

It doesn't do it for 1, but it works up to 13. Didn't go any higher. Different results each time, though one extremely disturbing site popped up in three of the results. Decided I should quit if I want to sleep tonight. I've seen enough of the seedy underbelly for today.

What you get with the quotes:

Matthew 4:1-4New International Version (NIV)

Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness4Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be temptedby the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."
4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'

No respectable physicist or mathematician is going to use Google's calculator.  If we're too lazy to do the math ourselves, we just fire up Mathematica.  Idiot high school kids use Google's calculator...that's the audience they're shooting for.

(-1 * 4) ^ ( 1/4) = (-1) ^ (1/4) * (4 ^ (1/4) = sqrt(i) * sqrt(2)

your roots would be i  * -1.414..., i * 1.414..., -i * -1.414..., and -i * 1.414

2013-02-12 07:31:52 PM

Lord Jubjub: snowjack: oops, accidentally typo'd a j. S/b:
1+i, 1-i, -1+i, -1-i

(-1 * 4) ^ ( 1/4) = (-1) ^ (1/4) * (4 ^ (1/4) = sqrt(i) * sqrt(2)

your roots would be i  * -1.414..., i * 1.414..., -i * -1.414..., and -i * 1.414

You're right up to the sqrt(i) * sqrt(2).
Sqrt(-1) = e^((i*pi)/2)
Sqrt(i) = e^((i*pi)/4)
By eulers rule sqrt(i)= cos(pi/4) + i sin(pi/4)
So
Sqrt(2) * (sqrt(2)/2 + i*sqrt(2)/2) = 1+i
