(Willamette Week)   You know how Ron Paul is suing his own supporters for his domain name? Well, it turns out Ron Paul was the one who sold it to them in the first place. For five-figures. Shortly after the campaign said they were "no longer interested in the website"   (wweek.com) divider line 59

But his longshot White House bid presents a more prosaic puzzle for Portland: Many of Paul's potential supporters confuse the candidate with a prominent Portlander of the same name, so many that the Texan's campaign wanted Portland's Paul to donate his Web domain name, ronpaul.com.

When he suggested "a reasonable monetary offer" somewhere in the five-figure range for his Web domain, Paul says his doppelgänger's supporters responded, "LOL! You must be voting for Hillary!"
"It's not that it's frustrating," he says, laughing. "It's just that some parallel universe has begun to develop."
As for the Paul presidential campaign, an official said Friday it's no longer interested in the website.

Yeah, the article had nothing like the subby wrote. The comments though, are pretty funny:

From a person voting for Ron Paul, sorry for the constant mistake. For what it is worth, you are being compared to the greatest leader of our time. And I would suggest you call Fox News and tell them that Ron Paul has some support. We are not two kids in a dorm room spamming.

Meh.  I don't see that as a defense of RON PAUL at all.  He thought 25k was a reasonable sum of money to buy your name.com as part of your presidential campaign?  Ha.  Pony up, randroid.  Let's feel the fiber of your fabric, eh?  And he's suing them for not selling at the price he wanted them to sell at?

Go start a SuperPAC or something.

Indeed.  Which is a valid and warranted admonishment of subby.  But it does nothing to exonerate Paul.  Ron Paul is one of those figures who becomes more irrelevant the more coverage and exposure he and his ideas get.  Failing to acquire his own name.com in advance of campaigning, when he's been a politician since before the internet, is just bad planning.  A hallmark of Ron Paulicies, really.  Failure to properly assess the value of said domain is just icing on the cake for a guy who is arguing for fundamental restructuring of our monetary policy.  Maybe he's not as smart as he thinks he is?

But yeah, I totally get what you're saying.  Headline is lying.  It happens, though this one's pretty far out there.  But saying "this headline isn't accurate" doesn't make the headline that *is* accurate any less ridiculous.

/Maybe a *little* less ridiculous?

2013-02-12 11:25:39 AM
So Ron Paul (Portland) owned the domain RonPaul.com in 2007, Ron Paul (Crazy) wanted to buy it for his campaign and Mr Portland offered to sell it for $25K.

So when did Crazy Paulites buy the domain and how much did they pay?  It is a bit tacky to try and claim a domain name you didn't buy for a reasonable price but your supporters did.

Ron Paul certainly did sell his domain name.  That is a true statement.  That appears to be the point of posting this old news.  Ron Paul sold it, but Ron Paul didn't want to buy it at the time.  Now Ron Paul wants it for free.  At least Ron Paul got his money either way.

At some point, Ron Paul (Portland) sold Ronpaul.com to some Ron Paul (Texas) supporters for $25,000.

Ron Paul (Texas) has now decided that Ronpaul.com should belong to him and, because he hates capitalism, doesn't feel he should have pay the asking price of $250,000.  Pretty standard entitled thinking, really.

Also, while the "greatest leader of our time" comment was pretty amusing, my favorite is the very last comment:

5 figures? Oh for Christ sake, just sell it to them. I hate all these net pimps trying to cash in on domain names. I mean, I understand selling it but 5 figures? Stupid honestly.
