I would love to see a study like this one done in the US.  When men greatly outperformed women in educational attainment it was assumed that institutional prejudice was the root cause.  Now that we've seen an almost exact reversal in the gender gap and it is just explained away as boys misbehave more than girls.  There is something very wrong with that.

As the father of a wiggle-worm (also a bounce, run, tumble, flail, interpretive-dance, -worm) I'm pretty clear on the notion that such behaviour does not contribute to any kind of attention span. I'm also pretty clear on the need for my short, crazy proto-human to engage in prolonged physical exertion before he'll sit down and pay attention. Seriously, nothing calms him down like exercise. The problem is less that little boys need to pay attention than little boys need an appropriate outlet for their energy so they're not sitting there fizzing.
