The UN should add that to their list of things that qualify as torture.

After the whole thing about forcing Guantanamo inmates to watch Glitter, it got me thinking. We've all occasionally joked about various artistic and media endeavors being like a kind of torture. The writers of The Muppet Show even immortalized the joke in the lyrics to the opening theme. But what must it feel like to know that your artistic works were actually used as a form of torture?

After two minutes, anyone who is being interrogated using this technique starts to scream "I'LL TELLLLLL!!!" over and over again.

I really want to know the cocktail of pyschotropic drugs that made Omar and Cedric say things to each other, like, "ok man, you lay down a Zeppelin-esque riff while I scream 'EXOSKELETAL JUNCTION AT THE RAILROAD DELAYED!!' for the chorus, aight? Ok, let's go".

Judging from what I know about those pretentious douchebags now, im going to assume they were high on their own farts.

At the risk of completely hijacking the thread, care to elaborate? I really only listened to their first album, saw them live once around that time, but really haven't thought much about them in a long time. I just found out the other day they've apparently broken up.

Ive told the story before but they are notorious for stopping mid-concert and berating the crowd for moshing and getting rowdy even though they are one of the most hyperactive bands out there next to Dillinger escape plan. They can jump around like monkeys on crack but if the crowd does it, they cry like biatches I was at one of the concerts they did this at and they were booed the rest of the set of a show THEY were headlining. Refused to listen to a single song by them since.

A few years ago they tried it at a festival and people started pelting them with bottles they had pissed in. I dont necessarily approve of that but as far as Im concerned were supporting your band and supplying your paycheck. As long as the crowd isn't doing anything to physically interrupt your set, then shut the fark up and play, you hacks. Also have been quoted in numerous interviews how they think "Moshing is last century" Now better way to alienate fans then to tell them you have to enjoy their music a certain way. Certainly turned me off to them.

Wait... Was that link to a the Minaj thing supposed to be music.

Because I heard no music.

I heard noises. I heard sound effects. I heard a drum beat (kind of). I heard her grating voice repeating generally stupid, kiddy-pool-deep words over and over. I did not hear anything that could even vaguely qualify as music.

And people BUY this shiat? fark, I hate people sometimes.

I'm sure they suck more than balls.

Also, I'm not a fan of the kind of music that Mariah Carey puts out, but she could musically kick the shiat out of Nikki's so called "music".  These two shouldn't even be uttered in the same sentence, let alone implied as being the same level of talent.

Heroine.  Duh.  The mixer/sound technician died from an OD less than a month before that album was released.  (It's about a guy who decides to try to kill himself with a mixture of heroine and rat poison, almost a self-fulfilling prophesy considering Jeremy's death.)  Omar and Cedric swore off opioids ever since.

Also, they are known for lacing complex metaphors and coded messages into their lyrics.  De-Loused is no exception and the story behind it is really frelling bizarre.

/liking Mars Volta is far from a bad thing

Welcome to commercial rap music, circa 2012.  You have to be approaching the flat part of the IQ bell curve to actually pay money for this shiat.

Yeah, and I remember 15 years ago biatching about shiat like Gin and Juice with a keyboard riff that sounds like cat being strangled.  This new "club rap" shiat is lazy as f**k.  Now they don't even bother with any sort of melody.

Somewhere along the way, rap artists lost the ability to put an interesting or clever narrative to a good beat.  Now it's just "YOUSASTUPIDHO unce unce unce unce YOUASTUPIDHO unce unce unce" and birdmen and salt shakers.  I don't know wtf happened.

I'm probably not looking in the right place for the good stuff these days, but I've long lost interest in the search.
