I anticipate a calm rational thread.

North Korea's powerful politburo vowed to continue firing "powerful long-range rockets," but a statement by state media Tuesday made no mention of a nuclear test.

No mention (or historic evidence) of aiming.

That's gonna kill their property values.

Call me when their rockets stop crashing into the beach they're launched from.

4.9 magnitude -- too small to cause damage, too big for a nuclear test.

Nothing to see here, move along.

Knowing them, it was probably just a crapton of conventional explosives.

2013-02-11 11:00:33 PM
North Korea's powerful National Defense Commission said Jan. 23 that the United States was its prime target for a nuclear test and long-range rocket launches.

Good luck, fatty.

2013-02-11 11:00:35 PM
Heard on CBC that some in the UN watch group are confirming it was a nuclear test, not just suspicous.

Side note:
I just repaired the USGS station in my mine today.  Good timing I guess.

I think it's just great that while the US and Israel have been riding Iran's ass about nuclear reactor technology....the craziest motherf*cker on the gotdamn planet has managed to build and successfully detonate 3 nuclear devices.  But hey, at least we got Israel's back on this one, so there's that.

From the linked yahoo comments:

Well here is all the proof we need. We will sit on our behinds and have another Pear Harbor, This time it will be in LA instead of Hawaii. Therefore, we need to take them out before they take us out. I would sleep better mush better if we did not have Obama on watch. He isn't going to do nothing. Lets posion the rice and then we would knock out there military and there leaders because, there are the ones get the food before the people.

The news flash thread will read like a Hitchens-Sullivan debate compared to that.

I don't think they even pay attention to that. Two things are going on there: Gathering materials for their war machine, and building their war machine.

But i'm sure it's just a phase they'll grow out of, so no need to worry.

I can't imagine that even Kim Jong Fatty is stupid enough to actually attack the US with nuclear weapons.  That would give the US carte blanche to turn North Korea into the proverbial glass parking lot.  And at that point, even China would be "Ah, fark it, it's not worth it."

I fail to follow their logic, but then they are batshiat crazy North Korea.

Sure, they can set off atomic bombs.  Yes, they have missiles that can carry them ... maybe.

But if they ever use the nukes against their Southern cousins, Japan, or us, who's the only country to ever use nuclear weapons during war?

Crazy is subjective.

For instance, you believe that NK is the craziest country, but in my opinion, its not. The North Pole is the craziest country. Slavery of little people really gets me pissed off. Plus, dont get me started on how bad that "Saint" treats the wildlife (he slaps yokes on them and treats them like a horse)

Obviously the time for a full-on invasion is NOW.

Let's get this party started.

no, but he could really rock the world by slamming the NIKKEI stock exchange during the middle of business.  that'd create a LOT of instability, and ripple around the world causing fear and chaos beyond belief.  even if he just got close enough to hit a third of Japan with an EMP burst, that'd rock the world on it's heels, causing billions in damage greater than any war could do.

or imagine if NKorea were to hit Taiwan with a nuke.  even if they missed, who do you think would get the retributive strike?

AFAIK, they cannot hit mainland US, but can still cause great destruction to So Korea, Japan, India, etc
