Gluten free is such bullshiat, unless you have Celiac Disease, which a very small number of people actually have.  I didn't hate fad diets and the dieters until this diet.  Even hard core Vegans don't get under my skin as much as Gluten Free nuts do.

Yep.

But, on the flip side, if it weren't for the moronic, non-celiac, gluten-free tools out there, gluten-free foods would be a lot harder to find.

So, there is some good that's come out of those people.

Reading that article was worse than any of the diets on the list; even the worst Cracked article is a Pulitzer winner in comparison.

Fark your faking list, and fark your farking diet.
If you can't eat a little of everything, then you have a disorder, not a disease.
Half you farkiers made your shait up and the other half are faking it.

Apparently TruTV caters to a crowd that eats mounds of crappy meat that has to be dressed up in salt and deep fried starch.  KFC, McDonalds and Taco Bell, in all likelihood.

People eat gluten free food w/out having Celiac disease? Why? Know a few people w/ cd and they consistently lament over all the good things in life that has been stolen from them, beer, pizza etc. Well except for one chick that never liked beer to begin with.

Shut your whore mouths. Since I haven't been eating as much wheat, my sinuses have cleared up 90% and I look and feel better. It really isn't good for you to be stuffing your pie holes with large quantities of wheat based products. I'm living proof.

But no clams? No crayfish + cream/wine/garlic sauce? No thanks.

You sound as if you're unaware of 'non-Celiac gluten-sensitiivity"  which shares some of the of the genetic markers of Celiac and is a lot more widespread than Celiac.

/Don't believe it?  Come to our house when someone unknowingly feeds some gluten to the three generations of our family with NCGS.

I think you missed your own point here. It's the nutter who think they need to be 'Gluten Free'. Lots of people who start paying attention to their diet and eating more vegetables will feel better. To attribute to removing gluten is (usually) silly and wrong. When I eat two pizzas myself I feel like shiat. to blame the wheat and only the wheat is to ignore some other obvious issues with the diet in the first place.

Go ahead and eat better and feel better, but please don't try and tell me your healthy choices began and ended with removing some wheat from your diet.

Shame on you for assuming I was belitting anyone's pain and suffering. Not believing in Fibromyalgia does not mean I think people are 'Making shiat up'. It means I think that 'Fibromyalgia' is a bullshiat catch all that is too often abused as a cause and reason to make little to no effort to effect positive change. <i>Every</i> single person I know who claims to have it is a smoker who drinks too much and eats a horrible, horrible diet. I'm very sure they do feel like shiat, everyday, all day long. I would too.

What an annoying list. Although I hate the term flextarian and pescatarian. You're an omnivore like the most of us, stop trying to be specialer by using a special title. I don't eat a lot of meat, just poultry, cephalopods and eel, you bet your bum I don't call myself flextarian.  Like grody, man.

But it really did. Honestly. Try it for a couple weeks and see. And I'm not completely "hard core" about it. If I want a little bread now and then, I'll have some whole wheat bread. But cutting out 90% of it has honestly made me feel better.

Yeah, I'm not so down on people with Fibromyalgia...it's dubious to include it on the list of "bullshiat things".  While there might not be physical evidence for it, at least most doctors acknowledge its existence, unlike Chakras and the like.

Oh god yes.  The funny thing is, people that don't have Celiac Disease or sensitivity don't even know what "Gluten free" means, a good bit of the time.  I've had people say, "Wow!  How did you make Risotto without Gluten??  Many times people think it means "no carb".  It's become the hip way to diet when your friends are looking.

I think it is pretty darn silly if you can't manage to eat smart and have to lump yourself in to a catogory-inismy thingy...I mean you need some of this and some of that too be healthy, and too much of any one thing is very bad for you. Just ask my son who decided to eat 8 kiwis in one sitting when he was 2.

Who ever wrote this article has no clue about Kosher. While most of it is correct, they get one major thing wrong. The article claims that Kosher requires it to be blessed during production, this is a myth.

Also it's not a "Diet" it a religious obligation for Jewish people. I have never met a non-Jew who kept kosher as some sort of diet, only Jews do it. SO it shouldn't be on that list

I found Warfarin's diet restrictions to be a serious pain in the ass. It conflicts with everything, including exercise, I had to take a larger dose due to the fact I was very active. Lucky for me I got to try Rivaroxaban. Great stuff, doesn't conflict with much... but there is no antidote so if I do start bleeding badly there's no way to stop it. Plus you can drink alcohol while on it without hurting the med's effectiveness. Since I'm going to be on blood thinners pretty much for the rest of my life, might as well go with it.

Their riff on "flexatarian" is pretty accurate.  I don't wear a badge, but I don't buy/order beef and I try to eat vegetarian whenever it is practical.  Example: anything with a ton of spices or flavors mixed in isn't going to miss meat, so I'll get beans or tofu.  But people take a long time to understand why I'm not eating meat at every meal, which is mostly because of the environmental impact and you're not supposed to in the first place.  I'm not a vegetarian, or vegan, or fad dieter, or anything, but it boggles peoples' minds that I might not eat tons of meat constantly.

It probably also boggles their minds that I can still fit into clothes I've had for 15 or more years.

I'll stick to being a low-fat lacto-vegetarian thank you!

Eating meat makes me physically ill. I don't want to go there. Eggs will land me in hospital. Too much fat leads to numerous bathroom visits and a four day migraine or chronic indigestion for which nothing will settle it down - I've got prescription strength medication for those times.
Do I miss out on good food? like HELL I DO!
I've learnt to master my diet. It works for me. I eat pizzas, fries, pies, crepes and really, I hardly use meat replacements such as seitan, quorn or soya... they're a treat if I do.
My family has no problems dealing with it... which is good.
Never really eaten much fish and to be honest, I found meat was a chore to eat as a kid and didn't really like it.
I know plenty of vegans and vegetarians and it's good we can swap recipes - there really isn't a problem...

2013-02-11 02:06:49 PM
Veganism is meant to treat something?  Never heard of a doctor prescribing this...

As an aside I think I've seen a grand total of, oh I dunno, maybe five things on this list apt to wind up the topic of conversation in a doctor's office under the specific auspices of "you should really do this".

Subby's title would be funnier perhaps if it were remotely true.

One of my kids is Celiac and the other has reflux brought on by gluten intolerance. Since cutting gluten, no one throws up in the middle of the night (and incidentally everyone is actually sleeping at night which clears up a whole mess of other issues), everyone is gaining weight and growing normally and the poop situation is just fine and dandy.

And flourless chocolate cupcakes are yummiriffic. Word.

Just chiming in for the Celiac crowd.  I'm happy that the "gluten-free" diet nerds are involved now because the selection of gluten free foods has exploded as a result.  Most of which taste actually pretty good, as opposed to dark matter rice bread and other "gluten friendly breads" made from recycled boat anchors.

It is a diet though, just followed due to religious choices. I knew a lot of Jews who didn't keep kosher but considered themselves Jewish. Some vegetarians and vegan are because of religious followings, doesn't make it less of a diet. It's a choice to be whatever religion you follow and likewise you can choose to follow it to the letter or pick and choose as you wish.

Pardon me, but your ignorance is showing.

My paramour has Lupus. If you've never seen what Lupus does to a person, do a google. It's not pretty. Imagine you go out to dinner with someone you care about, or have a nice home cooked meal, and over the course of the evening their joints start to swell up as their immune system goes into overdrive and starts attacking the joints in their wrists or fingers. Then, later, as you lay in bed, and their body begins to work on their tendons, they begin to curl up into the fetus position, their fingers bunch into fists and they can't stop it from happening because all those tendons are pulling like a marionette strings.

Oh, and it's unbelievably painful for the person to boot.

Or imagine you're hanging with this person, and they cough blood. Try to think about it from their perspective, dealing with that for pretty much your entire adult life. Not a day going by when you're not in pain.

Now think about this: Since my paramour has gone gluten free, she's hardly needed her Lupus medication at all. No more sore, swollen joints, no more suddenly getting so fatigued during the day that you actually have to carry them up a flight of no more than 5 stairs, no more suddenly going temporarily blind without warning.

She did a little test, after 6 months symptom free. She had a beer, a Guinness, her favorite. She spent about 3 days back in Ye Olde Misery. Then, at her request and when she wouldn't expect it, I snuck some flour into some gluten free cookies we made. She was violently ill as her body decided to attack her stomach.

You know, I get it that gluten free is a pain in the ass. Whenever she comes to visit, I have to spend like 2 days cleaning up my kitchen and bagging up anything with gluten, as well as use new sponges. Yep... I also have to go without beer for a while (well, I don't HAVE to, I choose to since she loves good beer but can't drink it any more and I decided not to when she's over). I get it that it's a pain in the ass for other people when she takes up more of a waiters time asking about food on the menu, and making sure the cooks know she can't have any gluten. Trust me, I get it.

But enough with the ignorant shiat. Yeah there are some people who go gluten free because they feel like it or it's the fad du jour, but for a lot of people, not just ciliacs, it can really change their lives.

2013-02-11 02:12:26 PM
Its not that they eat special food, its that they make a point of being loud and expecting kudos for it.

I dont care what anyone eats, and I should hope they ignore what I eat. Its the sermons.

BTW, I have a dog with celiac disease. He doesnt complain to the other dogs at the park so they dont mind. But he did nearly die before we got him diagnosed.

As a professor used to say "just because the pain is all in their heads doesn't make it any less real to them." Just be sure to use the word neurogenic rather that psychosomatic, and use the icd-9 code for CCFCCP syndrome.

I feel sorry for the people who *actually* have Celiac.  All the self-diagnosed wingnuts who wear their 'illness' on their sleeves have given you a bad name.

That being said, I consider Celiac to be God's way of telling you to go ahead and eat bacon, eggs, and hash browns for breakfast every day.

I had gluten free brownies from Whole Foods a few times. I didn't buy them because they were GF but because I don't eat palm oil (ethical crap etc) and it was the only one at the time that didn't have it. Pretty good though I think it probably had more calories in it than normal ones.
