15 and in middle school?

Sigh...

I remember my jr high school and there were a few teachers and administrators who focused on adherence to the school dress code and uniform policy rather than focus on teaching.

One of my teachers got in quite a bit of trouble because she would spend (not exaggerating here) at least the first 10-15 minutes of out a 55 minute class examining every single students uniform.  As in, we had to place our backpacks down at our desk and stand next to it as she walked up and down every isle.  This was a public school.  If you were out of line, she would write you up and send you to the main office.  Even simple stuff like your shirt being slightly untucked. There were times where in a class of 25 kids, 15+ were sent to the office.

Dexterman: 15 and in middle school?

Some places have middle schools that are 7/8/9.  In her case she's 15 in 9th grade.   She'll be 18 when she's a senior which is pretty typical.

Schools REALLY need to go back to education and stop worrying about hair color, clothing, etc.

2013-02-11 01:07:28 PM
THAT'S too red?  I was expecting one of those unnatural neon hair colors.  That looks natural.

this isn't really a "look at me!" unnatural color. I was expecting fire engine.

Reasonable restrictions are fine.  This isn't one of those cases.

The article is misleading.  They didn't suspend her because her hair is too red---it's because the foreground was black and everything was surrounded by the BLINK tag.

You really have to wonder what these school officials are thinking when they punish/suspend/expel a student for something trivial. "Well, I know that I live in an age where a fly farting in Botswana can be national news within minutes, but surely no one will notice my blatant power trip!"

2013-02-11 01:11:51 PM
We have the dumbest people running the schools. No wonder we're circling the drain.

There was a girl in my high school who colored her hair every unnatural color you could think of.  Somehow, we managed to learn.  Teachers need to mind their own business.

This.  If a school can't handle a day-to-day distraction of a kid dyeing their hair, they've got much, much bigger problems on their hands.

\kids get distracted, it happens, get over it

She's a very pretty girl but damn, I have friends in their 30s who look younger than her. Her father must just sit on the roof with a rifle.

And I'd like to go on the record and say that Vice Principal Jan Goodwin sounds like a major league asshole.

i would be interested to know if those who complained or wanted her suspended where women.

think about it, 15 yo girl with red hair.

how many times have you heard women biatch about red headed sluts???

suppose this is what happens when you breed your culture to be insecure about themselves to buy more product to compensate.

That's what I was thinking. That shade is not too far off my natural hair color. It's so close I'm wondering which brand/shade number she used as I'm starting to get a few silvers on top, as 40-somethings sometimes do. Apparently I am lucky I was born in a rather permissive generation/geographical region or I may never have been educated at all.

As usual I can't tell where this was, was this in Maryland? I'm thinking about running her red light right now, but I'm not really doing it - do I still go on the sex offender registry?

7-9 middle schools are fairly common.

Her hair does not look distracting in the least, but it sure will be now that it's national news.

2013-02-11 01:22:06 PM
Ah, yes. Schools are still shoveling out that decades-old "it's a distraction" line of bullshiat in regards to dress codes.

Hey, US public schools. If little Johnny can't focus during Algebra because he can't keep his eyes off Mary, it's not because little Mary has red streaks in he hair, it's because your teachers farking suck at engaging the students. That and he wants to slide his hands up Mary's shirt.

OK, so the school told her her hair was too bright red and asked her to darken it a bit. She refused because she didn't want a more brown shade. When a 15 year old precious snowflake decides that they will stubbornly buck authority, the authority takes action. And where is her farking mother? Had she been my kid, she'd have been at the colorist the same day and told to STFUASD. Actually, her initial request to dye her hair would have been denied.
