yeah coz book 5 was totally only about dany.

Jon Snow? Wildlings? Iron Born fleet massing? Reek? Targaryan Return to Westeros? Stannis in the snow?

ive heard people say the 5th book didnt have a satisfying battle... ok... but that it was a chore to read? i have heard that levelled against book 4 which is primarliy cersei's foolishness but book5 has plenty o good stuff.

Honestly, I liked the book quite a bit.  I found 4's time spent with the Sand People a bit more annoying.  I just couldn't get myself to care very much about them, so going back constantly to check on that busybody, trouble making biatch of a daughter was annoying.

But book 5, Danny's playing Mystery Date aside, was pretty damn cool.

You're not missing much.  A voiceover of some gravel voiced narrator says a lot of cryptic stuff about gathering storms while the actors, in costume and makeup (Tyrion's scar specifically) sit in a dark room with a rotating light that illuminates their face from one side to another as they look up at the camera.

It ends with Tyrion giving a trademark smirk at the end.

It's cool, but nothing that you need to rush home to see.

Double reply!

Just looked to the wiki, to hope that maybe they gave us an update on the release of book 6...

"In the past, Martin has angered some of his fan base for repeatedly estimating his publication dates too optimistically; therefore, he has refrained from making hard estimates forThe Winds of Winter's final release date."

Way to miss the freaking point there, genius.

There's a lot of stuff that happens after that (and for budget reasons I imagine it will be heavily cut down). If I were them, I'd slightly shuffle the chapter order so that the Tyrion plot line is the conclusion -- especially because he's everyone's favorite character.

Peter Dinklage IS ten shades of awesome.

he's more tyrion than tyrion is. his performance in virtually every scene is flawless.

*SMALL SPOILER*

Hm, the wedding part was so obvious that it felt less awesome and more "Finally done that. Those blind Stark morons. Now lets see how the story goes on".
But maybe that's only me because some of my favorite books as a child were novelizations (and an awesome parody that started my interest) of the Nibelungenlied saga, so I know what to expect when pissed-off mad people with a grudge against you invite the family to a party to forgive and forget what you did to them in the past.

/at least the Nibelungen would have kicked some serious Frey butt before going out

While it was clear Robb was never going to last, I thought Catelyn would pull through because she's more or less the protagonist up until that point -- after all, she sets the whole war in motion by kidnapping Tyrion. And Martin does a good job distracting you with having Arya imminently arriving at the Twins.

I sit here in my solar wearing black boiled leather and a white doublet lined with vair, I look out the window upon the gray-green sentinels and soldier pines.  I stuff my face with pease pie and think to myself "winter is coming". But when I think I know what's really going to happen I repeat to myself "you know nothing, Jon Snow" and the scar upon my face burns where Ser Gregor burned me long ago, the memory of which gave me so much anger that I fought the Kingslayer and lost my right hand.  I placed the bones from my right hand in a leathern bag which I wear around my neck for luck.  But as a girl once told me, "if I look back I am lost" so I try to forget everything I just said.

I always had the notion that the Starks are supposed to be the heroes in the books but the trouble I have is I hate the Starks.  They're naive, stubborn, self-righteous and reactionary, with Catelyn being the worst.  Not only does she start the war by capturing Tyrion with no proof, she compounds her meddling by releasing Jaime later, turning Robb's men against him.  Her ass should've been locked up at Winterfell from the beginning or she should've been chained to Eddard when he left for King's Landing.

Catelyn is a Tully. There must be something in the water around the riverlands because both her and her sister aren't exactly critical in their thinking.

Yeah, I can forgive Ned. He was a man too good and noble to survive in that kind of world. I cold forgive the kids, because being kids and being raised by their idealistic father they didn't have a chance to start.

But Catelyn was in the thick of the politics early on. Seems like after her farkup with Tyrion sent the world into war, she'd widen up a bit. But no, one blunder after another and into the next world she continues to be stupid.

It's a bit ironic that she and everyone else look upon her sister Lysa as a wrong headed fool when at least Lysa had the good sense to flee King's Landing and stay hidden in the Vale.

Probably just family with bad bit of arrogance, like the Starks.  As disgusting as old Walder Frey is, I think he may have a small point about being slighted by the Tullys.  Perhaps because Hoster Tully and Eddard Stark were so wrapped up in their honor their families began to believe that all of their decisions were correct.  In a way it somewhat reminds me of when I hear country folks going on about how they could teach those California folks a thing or two about living right.

Well, one of the themes of the books is that honor gets you killed. And that's what makes Tyrion so interesting -- he lacks honor but actually does a good job serving the realm.

The books are also a bit more ambivalent about Catelyn than the show has been so far. She gives a lot more bad advice because of her own selfish beliefs, and is a total dick to Jon Snow.

I can't forgive Ned. He could have taken Joff hostage with Renley's men right when Robert was about to die and prevented the Lannisters from taking control, but he really thought his piece of paper would be enough to get them all to step aside. He was just a fool.
