You know what the Senate needs?  A new rule to shut this kind of crap down.  I'll call it, the "STFU Rule".

The rule is simple:  In cases where meaningless or politically motivated holds have been put in place, the hold can be forcibly killed by a 2/3 vote of the members present at the time.

Isn't it relatively unprecedented to filibuster cabinet appointments?

I'm unsure of which approach to use for my response to Senator Graham:

They might do things differently in the Imperial Senate, but in the USA they only need 60% of the Senate to vote to kill the hold.

yes, but you have to understand the gravity of the situation: the President is black.

Every use of the fillibuster throughout the last 4 years has been unprecedented because they used it on almost everything

You've been reading Glenn Greenwald again, haven't you? :-)

They'll probably get him on the fact that he does in fact speak Arabic fluently. And as we all know, only the terrorists speak that.

It's like convicting Al Capone of tax evasion.  Sure, you got him, but it just feels empty.

Well, it's not like we, the people, have to listen to it. Only the congresscritters. And, I say we throw in barring the doors allowing no one to leave until the filibuster ends. Give them bread and bottled water, but if they need to pee, they can do it in the empties. If they need to poop, well, it would be an improvement over the shiat that comes out of their mouths. They can come out when they have finally voted on whatever legislation was being filibustered.

On second thought, forget letting them out. Leave them to go all Lord of the Flies on each other. >:D

I'll support it with one new rule: Lock the door to the bathroom. If the filibusterer (holy crap, that's a word!) thinks he can sprint down the hall to the john or pee in a corner or whatever, no can do. He can talk as long as he can hold it, but that's it.

And on filibuster days, they crank up the temperature in the room so the speaker just HAS to have water, or die of heat stroke.

You know that would probably be a lot faster and more efficient than what they currently do.

Lindsay Graham constantly makes me feel ashamed to be from SC, not that there aren't plenty of other justifiable reasons to feel ashamed of SC, but at least most of those are more interesting. I have had the "privilege" to meet the esteemed senator a couple of times and what I hear each time is something along the lines of, "He's actually not that bad of a guy in person, I think he just has to tow the party line...". Sure. Great. So we have a shiathead that actually feels bad about what he might do in public privately. As long as he feels some remorse then I guess its ok then right guys?

I'm serious though, this is how he keeps getting re-elected. He does know his electorate though I will give him that, middle aged natives (to SC) who like the idea of Old South charm enough to excuse all of the negative aspects of an Old South mentality.

Mah, mah, I do believe I have a touch of tha vapors....

This is what happens when the G.O.P isn't the party in power.  Obstructionism.  These people do not care about the condition of our country.  They are motivated to get and then keep power and very very little else.  Are the Dems much better? Not much, but I've never seen them pull this kind of hissy fit before.

I consider it the death throes of a dying theology becoming ever more extreme and exclusive while claiming to be the victim in some kind of moral battle for what is Right.  Good riddance the sooner the better.

He thinks that the White House still needs to provide more information about the Benghazi attacks.

So Lindsay Graham is prepared to yet again take the country's legislative body hostage in order to find out more about a terrorist act?

He should try looking in a farking mirror.

I've never understood LG's longevity and apparent power within the ranks of the GOP.

I disagree. If he wants to endure the indignity of getting a catheter shoved up his urethra on the Senate floor so he can pee while he talks, and he's willing to stick himself with an IV to get glucose injected directly into his bloodstream, and he's willing to constantly inject himself with caffeine to stay awake, I say he should be allowed to do all of those things. Even with all of those things, it's unlikely he'd be able to keep going for more than three or four continuous days before the flying pink elephants scared him off.

Not that Graham isn't a douche, but I think Obama could've put forth a better nominee than Hagel, who in the hearings came across as a doofus not particularly wanting the job. Surely, Robert Gates could have recommended someone better? Brennan, on the other hand, seemed like a pretty solid company man.

The Sec'y of State hearings prove they could nominate Jesus Christ for the job, and the first words out of the Republicans'  mouths would be "So, I hear his mom wasn't married to his dad."

But this is the most transparent administration in world history. They tell the people EVERYTHING. It's not like they hid memos about why it's okay to kill American citizens without due process or anything.

Jesus Christ? Ptth. He's a damn hippie socialist, always talking about "Welfare" and "Tolerance" and other libby bullshiat like that, and he's Middle Eastern to boot. Why, you might as well nominate bin Laden himself!

The rest of the world (who of course rightfully has no vote whatsoever in US elections, I'm just biatching) stood by and watched as the Dems fell over one another to support the invasion of Iraq. Our federal government of the day in Australia did precisely the same thing of course. But it's awfully sad that the Republicans oppose every farking domestic policy they can, when of course if Obama declared war on Iran tomorrow they'd be falling over themselves to back it in and biatch about why it's taken so long.

The only safe conclusion is that voters should never elect anyone who's standing for election. There's a whole South Park episode which proves this point better than I ever could.
