I would like to think that they evolved to hunt flying fish. In a few eons maybe the air will have squid, fish, birds, bats, and insects flying all around. Too bad pterradactls aren't around anymore.

I can't remember the exact series, but I watched some show that speculated cephalopods would eventually evolve into the next intelligent species once mankind is gone. I thought that was pretty cool.

Cephalopods are absolutely amazing. If they ever get past the short lifespan, they'll take over the world in the end -- and the world will be a more flexible and colorful place.
