(Local 15 Mobile)   Old oil rigs in the Gulf are rich habitats teeming with sealife. But they're also kind of an eyesore. So in its infinite wisdom, your government is wasting billions of dollars to make the situation a lot worse   ( divider line

Look, you can either have the red snapper or you can go for what's in the box that Hiro-San is bringing down the aisle right now! What's it gonna be?

The only time I have ever heard of the government doing anything without doing an eco-system study and a bunch of other red-tape stuff.  Must be some rich guy called his congressman because he didn't like sailing past the rusty hulks.

It is the fish's fault anyway, the notice was clearly filed in the basement of Hall of Records under demolitions scheduled, in North Dakota.

I had a friend who an undersea welder on those rigs. One day he saw what he could only describe as a human face as big as a two story house looking like it was ready to eat him and waking up a few weeks later in a mental asylum.

The company paid for all his expenses and for his retraning as a chef.

Are these the same guys who thought sinking the Deepwater Horizon was a good idea?

It was doing a fine job keeping oil out of the Gulf when it was on fire.

Jument: Why are they blowing them up?

One reason (total guess) might be that they are a navigational hazard, which seems like it could be a serious problem. Still, explosives seems like a bad idea. You'd think that when they are erected they would be built so that they could be removed relatively easily. Of course, the oil must flow and damn the consequences.

You expect foresight from the oil industry?  On environmental issues?

Obviously the first thing that we should do is abolish and disband the government.

Aren't these the people who maintain our "forests" somehow? You don't want to be a forest cop in Arizona or New Mexico. Seriously. These people hate you. So do I.
