There's only one way to compensate.

Quick, everyone download the complete Metallica catalog.

Oh I doubt the level of pirates hasn't fallen, they just switched to a different source like usenet or less popular torrent sites.

Can I stop after the first half? I mean, I'll seed twice as long if I can avoid helping to spread anything they made after 2000 or so.

They made more albums after black?  Oh man all these years I thought that was Green Day or Korn or some other poser band.  Those guys are metallica now?  I guess we all get mellow as the years creep up.

/they died to me due to the little guy's mouth piecing for the RIAA

When are these pirates going to learn that they're not going to find their buried treasure with AK's and rocket launcher? So ruthless, no class. It's like as the German pirates of yesteryear used to say "Hi und die".

That's fine, but you have a moral imperative to seed the version of "Nothing else matters" that was converted to a major key.  That song always deserved to be hit with an easy listening ray and played on oldies stations.

/Waiting for the Michael Bolton version of "Unforgiven"

I'll start drinking rum right now if it'll help.

Speaking of old favourites that should probably just pack it in, anyone listened to Iron Maiden's last few albums?  I loved them in my youth and still love those albums but man Bruce just can't sing like he used to and the songs themselves just sound 'meh'.  I only know this because some somali guy shared them with me, its legit.

"I have given up piracy and succeeded in encouraging more youths to give up piracy," said Mohamed Abdi Hassan. "It was not due to fear of warships. It was just a decision."

Seems legit.

Ever since it was explained to me that NEM was meant to be an instrumental like every other album had, but SOMEONE insisted that all of the songs had lyrics to them because instrumentals don't sell... the lyrics go from "vapid" to "downright hilarious".

So it turns out the problem wasn't some complicated maritime law forbidding arming merchant ships to defend themselves, it was just some greedy assholes being too cheap to care about customers?

Figures.

Companies don't want to spend their money teaching their crews to use cannons and flintlocks.

They should let the Russians police this problem.  Last video I saw they captured them, tied them up, backed off and sunk their boat with them in it.  Problem solved...

remember when "they" were worried that arming the ships would cause an escalation?  Turns out the somalis just dont like getting shot at much.

You don't really want to test that whole "escalation" strategy when the US and Russian military gets involved.

We invented escalation.

The funny thing is that SOMEONE was right.  That song ended up in endless rotation on MTV, even though the video was just spare footage of the band touring.  It was a huge money-maker because they put some sappy lyrics on it.

Which is not surprising, since NEM and Unforgiven were girlfriend songs.  If you went to college in 91-92,  there'd be some dude with a big stereo blasting Metallica on your floor and acting like a huge badass.  Then he'd get start boning one of the girls, and eventually the stereo would only play those two songs because the girl and her friends totally think those songs are like awesome.

And then later he'd blast "He-Man Woman Hater" from Extreme and you'd just shake your head---sure macho man, you go ahead and express your independence.  We believe you.  But seriously, don't do that, you're going to turn Extreme into a bunch of wusses just by associating yourself with the---hey, the third album came out.  OH GOD DAMMIT ALL

Arrr, aye, an' a Sea Serpent whose body was thick as the mightiest oak you could find, scales the size of yer palm an' fangs as long as yer arm. Aye, I've lost many a friend to that beast, neither harpoon nor musket could injure it, t'ey jus' made it angry. Wrapped its body around the dingy they was in, aye, and crushed it to bits, draggin' them under to the Deep! Last thing oi 'eard was their mournful cries as they slipped below in the grasp of tha' monstrous beast.

Buddy of mine who did some contract work in Afghanistan (the .mil wouldn't take him - a touch too bad hearing... told him he shoulda been wearing plugs when we were in high school) recently got a real offer from his former employer that sounded just like that "full armed pirate cruise vacation" gag that has been floating around....

That's just a gag?  I'm not sure how I'm going to break it to the wife and kids...damn they were really looking forward to that.
