Dale was worthless

2013-02-10 10:28:35 PM
Why would anyone want Dale back!?! Of all those who have died, I've never been happier to see one of them go as I was when Dale got eated! That includes Lori.

And WTF is Kevin Smith talking about "didn't see a body?" How is Carl shooting her in the head not good enough for him?!?!?

Someone in the audience should just get up to the mic and ask Smith for his thoughts on the new Superman movie. Get that ball rolling.

I seriously never get tired of that story.

Anyone wanna take bets on how long until they cancel the abortion of a show that is Comic Book Men?

I dunno. They have enough faith in it to make it the lead-in for 2 new shows, which is generally a good sign for a show.

OR

They're putting all their crap on Thursday and writing it all off.

Bullshiat.

Dale was a moral centre for the group. If anybody embodied the good parts of a civilized man it was Dale and the group was diminished with his death.

I live not too far away from that comic book shop and have frequented it for years.  After Comic Book Men showed how horribly they treat the customers and trash us behind our backs, especially the very few girls that are ever in there--screw Kevin Smith & his asshole friends.   Mike's always been nice, which really surprised me.  He isn't as bad as the other guys on the show but certainly does nothing to rein them in.

I'm just saying, the shorts and having his legs up on the couch isn't doing him any favors.

That's the kind of thing that he usually wears. He's a fat guy. He frequently refers to himself as a "fat guy". What's your effin' point? That he's a fat guy?

Well...yeah, that's pretty much it.

Being right is a privilege of the living. Morality is an artificial construct born from easy living. If survival means abandoning that then so be it. When things get cozy again it will likely redevelop.

As it stands right now, the group does not have a large enough population to be sustainable for more than a generation or two.  Dale was an old man clinging to a society that was dead and gone.  While his goals may have been noble, the world of the Walking Dead is one where every moment is a struggle for survival.  Maybe when the situation is stabilized they can start thinking about those sorts of issues, but at the moment they have to think about what's going to get them to the next day.

Sure, when all you've got left is Shanes I'm sure democracy would follow naturally.

So if you end the Walker apocalypse, have fun with that E-ticket to Somalialand.

What are you a farking creationist ? Do you think the concept of morality and fairness just spewed forth from some magically carved stone tablets ? That shiat is a LUXURY.

Public Call Box: Yup, I agree. In the long run Dale's odds aren't good. But in the long run its the Dales that keep you sane.

The problem was that Dale didn't offer any solutions.  He demanded the group talk before killing Randall but then threw a tantrum when things didn't go his way.  He never offered a viable solution for how to deal with him.  Everyone else asked questions about juries and judges and imprisonment, but Dale never answered any of those questions.  Randall had already admitted to being part of a group that had raped young girls and that alone justified dealing with him.  At the risk of sounding sexist, fertile women are the most valuable people in the world in the Walking Dead universe.  If Dale's insistence on following a rule of law that no longer exists results in the loss of the few women the group has left, all of his rantings would amount to nothing.  The discussion they had was one that they should have had a month before the situation arose.

I wouldn't go that far.  Morality, regardless of its source, is a set of rules that allow society to function.  Dispensing with morality altogether would be just as destructive as trying to follow Dale's idealism.  What Dale never understood was that the rules had changed.  You can still choose to show mercy to someone, but the risk-reward of that choice is much different in the Walking Dead universe than in ours.

You're not wrong but I liked the tension it Dale trying to stay civilized brought to the show. The morality vs survival trope works better with Dale alive.

Trocadero: Oh shiat, is Rick gonna kill a baby? Now that would be a TV first...

I'm pretty sure Battlestar Galactica did that in the miniseries. Six was walking around Caprica, saw a baby and made small talk with the family, then snapped its neck as they were distracted with something.
