(ESPN)   No. 25 Notre Dame upsets No. 11 Louisville in college hoops in overtime. Wait, did I say overtime? I meant double overtime. I'm sorry, triple overtime. No? Okay, quadruple overtime? Would you believe quintuple overtime?   (scores.espn.go.com ) divider line

Suck it, Pitino!

I was cheering hard for no one to win.  Almost worked.

I flipped over to ESPN to catch SportsCenter, ended up watching the five OTs. I didn't realize why Mike Brey was smiling like the Cheshire Cat at the end of the 1st OT until they said something about ND having been down 8 with 0:50 left.

Basketball is so boring and predictable. You really don't have to watch until the last 2 minutes of the 5th overtime...

Baylor played a quintuple overtime game back in 2007 or 2008.

Eesh, it's a regular-season game.  Call it a tie after a single OT, or decide the game with a round of HORSE.  Five OTs for a regular-season game is ridiculous.

Teo was at the game, and on TV.

It was funny watching the Irish just enjoying the hell out of the situation and Pitino increasingly losing his shiat.

Pitino should've lost his shiat. Russ Smith and Peyton Siva are the most knuckleheaded backcourt in history. Extremely talented, but they have absolutely no feel for the game and have no idea how to play situational basketball. Smith himself blew at least four end of game situations, the biggest one coming when they were up 2 with 18 seconds left and the ball in OT4. He rushes the ball up the court, has a 3 on 1 fast break after ND misses fouling him, and he forces up a wild shot that gets partially blocked. The look on Pitino's face was priceless.

I hate to say that KU looked better in a loss against an unranked team than they did the past two games, but they did. The upside is that the faithful knew that this was coming before the season started, and that we have one of the best recruiting classes Self's ever grabbed coming in next year. It's not that I'm happy about a down year, but history shows that he had to have one eventually.

After Siva fouled out, I said to myself - out loud - "Well, at least he doesn't have Siva to make a Siva-esque turnover and cost them the game." Shortly after, Smith took the 28-footer at the end of the first OT. I thought Pitino was gonna pop an aneurysm.

Here's the thing...neither kid is a Freshman...Pitino has had multiple years with both kids to teach them basic game management and he clearly hasn't done it.

Even more so...Pitino's teams have NEVER been known for smart game management...at what point do you start pointing at Ricky "two seconds" Pitino and realize he's a large part of the problem.

I don't know about that. A national championship, another national championship appearance, and eight straight league titles is pretty good for a guy that supposedly can't coach.

I like how whathisname came in and scored 12 points in 50 seconds for no apparent reason whatsoever.

I also like how the star of the five overtimes was a near bust scrub that has played a minute in the last several games and didn't play until the end of regulation in this game.

What's the rule on fouling out in college?  Can you come back in the game in OT?  What if you commit another foul in OT?

You're out. Unless you're Tim Hardaway Jr. in the Wisconsin game.

And that's why college football shouldn't have a playoff. A tournament at the end of the season makes regular-season games meaningless. Like yesterday.

For those of you about to respond, that was sarcasm

2013-02-10 03:10:47 PM
Since this is college basketball, I'm guessing nobody scored a point until the 5th overtime.

2013-02-10 03:33:24 PM
The thing that got me about watching the end of that game was that in the 65th minute of play, the final minute of the 5th OT; each team still had a player who hadn't played a minute. If anything, I would've brought in the last guy on the bench earlier just to foul someone so I wouldn't lose a starter or top bench guy who might be needed to make a big shot to foul trouble.
