Oh......dear.

2013-02-10 09:11:30 AM
A verbal spat outside a Westminster Walmart on Friday took an alarming turn when a man showed a holstered gun.

I don't know what the local laws are there.  I don't know if the guy had a legal concealed-carry permit.  But this is what I expect to see with increasing frequency as more people carry.

I feel like there's a minority, but significant fraction, of people just hoping somebody starts something with them.  "Can't wait to see the look on their face when they see...this."  And a fraction of those will live their lives with a little more aggression, a little more swagger, not quite looking for trouble, but not quite being cool and level-headed, either.

Earguy: I don't know what the local laws are there. I don't know if the guy had a legal concealed-carry permit.

It was later determined that he should not have had a gun because of his criminal past.

OK.  But I stand by my point that there is a sliver of carry-permit holders who kind of hope something will happen.

Looks like the only thing that could stop a bad guy with a gun was a good guy without a gun.

I believe one should be allowed to regain consciousness before the mugshot...

Guns don't hurt people, people carrying guns get hurt by people not carrying guns. Guns.

What happened to his face?

Some friends of mine love going to that Walmart. They say it has the largest population of freaks.

He's obviously a soccer hooligan on vacation, hit a few of the local taverns , and got confused about where he was.  Perfectly understandable.  I'm sure finding himself in the Westminster locale didn't add to his confusion any.

Can we say road rage or are we not allowed to bring up cars as they are all about legality and not weaponry.

A loud crude asshole on a cell phone flashes a gun?  I am just shocked and surprised, I'd never expect loud crude assholes to also be fans of guns.

If we're going to allow anecdotal evidence, I'd like to submit that I'm more level headed when I carry. Knowing that shiat like this will be admitted as evidence in court. I'm much more likely to try to talk out a problem as opposed to trying to end a confrontation with force.

So a wackjob with an illegal gun still prompts you to attack legal gun owners?  Don't misunderstand people with concealed carry seeing a news report and say in this situation I would do x.  Part of the responsibility of carrying is making a clear headed decision under stress.  A good way to do that is to look at other situations while couch surfing to analyze the best choice.  In this situation, I probably would have just gone into the store and let security know there was a nut out front.

/yes, I do carry
//No, I hope I never need to use it

I'm glad you agree that we need more widespread, strictly enforced background checks.

What an idiot. A gun does you no good in your holster. Glad your dumb criminal ass was tackled and knocked unconscious, especially since you were also having one of those loud ass cellphone conversations.

But then, I didn't know Flea was a felon.

Yep.  Most people who carry feel this way.

You forming an opinion of what some legal CC holders will theoretically do, based on the behavior of a man who had no business carrying in the first place and never will have due to a past felony?

Really.  You stand by a "point" refuted in the very article you couldn't be bothered to read in its entirety before your knee-jerk post about what you think law-abiding citizens might be thinking?

And then when you go back and notice that this guy is a prohibited person illegally carrying a firearm, instead of simply correcting your error or slinking away quietly, you double down on your "point" that some law-abiding citizens have bad hopes and dreams?

Really?

Criminals in India, with tough gun laws and little access to guns, make homemade guns without regard to laws or their own safety. Your point? People in China without access to guns who still want to hurt school kids do so with knives. Often. Since laws don't stop criminals, why would the availability or lack thereof of a certain weapon effect their behavior?

When you go around showing your gun, someone smarter, faster and - most importantly - more sober than you is gonna whip your ass before giving you the chance to actually use it on him. Don't get stuck on stupid, people. I prefer you keep your guns at home, but if you are going to carry it, don't be a dumbass and threaten anyone who irritates you.

Okay okay, let's try something out:  Why is the world trying so hard to keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of best Korea and iran?  Why bother?  If they really want to hurt their neighbors they already have the means to do it so fark it let's just sell them the goods and move on...

Oh wait...no, not all tools are equal when it comes to killing people.  Some are exceptionally easier to use when you want to cause a lot of damage.  Guns only exist to cause damage, they have no other purpose.  They are cigarettes and its about time you let go of the silly notion they are completely harmless and do not lend to the savage amounts of murders the US has compared to every other first world nation.

Which is why most smart people are investigating the root causes of our dumber gun violence, and not calling for sweeping bans that really don't address the whole issue. I'm the biggest libtard here and even I know that we're too far gone as a culture for simple bans to work. That's why I don't support the idea, and not because I'm a Ted Nugent.
