I hate how the news always leaves it at "non life threatening" wounds. There are a lot of life changing wounds that don't threaten your life.

Generally, when I see this kind of thing in a movie, I think "bad movie". And yet...

2013-02-10 01:18:20 AM
Yeah ... they're gonna get sued for every penny they have.

And rightfully.

And they'll whine and pull a persecution complex every step of the way, the f*ckers.

2013-02-10 01:20:00 AM
Amazing that the cops mistook a 41yo white woman and a 71 yo white woman for a large black man...and then opened fire without any warning.

The two women now say they had no warning before they were caught in a hail of bullets by officers, and it is remarkable that they survived.

kmmontandon: And they'll whine and pull a persecution complex every step of the way, the f*ckers.

WTF? The cops shot them without warning. And out of control, seriously could you mistake two women (ages 41, and 71) for one large black guy? If you want to hear whining...I'd bet the defense case for the cops is filled with that. We'll see. They shouldn't except a new truck they where attacked and shot...by cops without warning. If they except a new truck I'd bet it comes with strings attached as if it's all "cool" now.

I probably should've clarified that by "the f*ckers," I meant the LAPD.

F*ck the LAPD.  Those cops deserve to be kicked off the force, prosecuted, and imprisoned, and their supervisor(s) suspended for failing to maintain control of their men.

Instead, they'll just get a scowl and be put on someone's "shiat list" for all the paperwork they caused.

2013-02-10 04:34:47 AM
The cops don't buy the truck, the taxpayers do.

Also the cops should be dead before they shoot at the wrong person. Serve and protect. Lighting up the wrong truck is neither.

The guy who's killing people is evil. That doesn't make the LAPD good by default.

Officials are going to reopen the original investigation so they can prove that there is nothing to Dorner's accusations.

Can you say "whitewash".

If anything the women at least should be happy that the LAPD are such terrible shots that seven cops firing sixty rounds could not kill them. When I saw the movie "The Gauntlet" I thought "No way Clint Eastwood and Sandra Locke survive a hail of bullets being fired into their bus by cops!" Now I guess that movie was right. It's like watching Stormtroopers trying to shot straight.

I am surprised the LAPD isn't trying to blame them.  If they didn't have so much shiat on their hand with Dorner I am sure they would be trying plant a gun.

And it's only non-threatening wounds due to luck. Each bullet fired is lethal force, every one of them could have killed someone. What about the other car(s) and house(s) that were hit? Instructors at CCW classes usually have a saying, 'every bullet has a lawyer attached'.

If NOTHING else, the cops should be fired and arrested for opening fire without warning on ANYONE.  Their desperation to kill Dorner only serves to convince people that hey, there might be something to Dorner's claims about the LAPD.

/Don't think Dorner is a hero or any bullshiat like that. The moment he decided to murder people, he became a bad guy too.

The LAPD is so generous (with taxpayer money), they should probably rename their organization to something more appropriate.

Like the "Ministry of Love."

Anyway, one of the loose ends in this sordid tale is that the LAPD still has Teresa "Chupacabra" Evans to deal with.  They can't find her retroactively guilty and fire her, because that would validate the actions of the crazy-man Dorners.  And they can't keep her around on patrol while she continues to kick people in the chest, crack skulls and flay the skin off of people.

So, really, the only two options for the LAPD at this point are to either kill her (like she's some kind of Asian newspaper thrower or something), or promote her.  She'll probably end up with a desk job with a fat pension where she can't sadistically torture citizens quite as frequently as she does these days.

As a former resident of SoCal and someone who had plenty of contact with LAPD because of the neighborhood she lived in, I can only say "no shiat, coulda told you that without them shooting at anyone".

/hint for the LAPD - if you see a white chick walking in a shifty, "primarily successful and attractive" neighborhood, she may be poor and walking home rather than buying drugs or "working the streets"

Last week, a school bus driver died to protect children on his bus.

Two months ago, 6 teachers died to protect the children in an elementary school.

We are constantly getting casualty reports from Afghanistan.  Not too long ago, from Iraq.

Why?  Because these people all understood that it was their job to get in front of bullets to protect their charges.

Now, the LAPD is freaked because someone might want to kill them.  So they shoot up two trucks because someone thinks they might be hiding the "bad guy".

What a bunch of cowards.

Yep. If Dorner's smart, he's left the state while he's got them thinking he's hiding in the mountains or something. The LAPD's actions are just proving his points, and as they continue to flip the fark out, more and more people outside LA take notice. Hopefully, this results in some serious investigations and crackdowns on the LAPD's corruption, and hopefully *that* results in other corrupt PDs cleaning up their act.

You folks believe the lapd is unique in this level of incompetence, criminality and violence?

Wow. Looks like a few cops need to spend more time at the shooting rangethe rest of their sorry lives in jail.

I'd demand one of the up armored Silverado pickups that GM Defense (well now GD) sells if I was those women.  Or perhaps a Tahoe, I can happily point them to the models that have a remote control chain gun on the roof and shrug off anything short of a RPG to help them through future LAPD encounters.

By accepting the truck, they will be waiving their right to sue the department for any further damages, with the courts saying that the truck is sufficient compensation

Glancing Blow: Sixty rounds is not surprising.  In a group, once one starts firing they all empty their guns.  This would have made a nice diversion for a flanking attack.

Just like a group of 8 year olds.
I mention this because I have experience with training Boy Scouts and they display much better shooting dicipline.

Bets?  An "independent investigation" will show that the officers acted with "justifiable reactions to a stressful situation" and recommend that they "be returned to active duty without delay, and reimbursed for any missed pay during their time off".  The district attorney will also be filing charges against the two victims for assaulting police officers by throwing newspapers at them.

Sixty rounds and probably 2.shiats.

Between the mass shooting in NYC (which was a random asshole with a grudge against a co-worker) and this, can police hit the side of a barn under pressure?

I heard this was security detail protecting some house, not sure if they had something better then a 9mm glock.
Assuming 9mm glock at 15 rounds a magazine, that is two magazines each for two cops.

I think one of the biggest difference with the USA and the rest of the Western world isn't the religiosity or the guns or political circus or the lack of social safety nets, but the nature of the police.

No-one in the UK or France or Australia or Germany or Canada or New Zealand would think twice about going up to a policeman and asking for directions or just a chat. The police in the US just seem to be wired and scary and angry.

Not that it matters, but those things are, in fact, in his manifesto, more or less.

If you had a well regulated AWB, this would not happen. The time is now to reinstitute a ban that will save lives. Why does any sportsman need a 30 round magazine for hunting? Why does anyone need a suppressor? Why does anyone need a AR15 rifle? This is the same small arms weapons system utilized in eradicating Al Qaeda, Taliban, and every enemy combatant since the Vietnam war. Don't give me that crap that its not a select fire or full auto rifle like the DoD uses.
neighbor marries. Hypocritical pieces of shiat.

...
On the same day, give Piers Morgan an indefinite resident alien and Visa card. Mr. Morgan, the problem that many American gun owners have with you and your continuous discussion of gun control is that you are not an American citizen and have an accent that is distinct and clarifies that you are a foreigner. I want you to know that I agree with you 100% on enacting stricter firearm laws but you must understand that your critics will always have in the back of their mind that you are native to a country that we won our sovereignty from while using firearms as a last resort in defense and you come from a country that has no legal private ownership of firearms. That is disheartening to American gun owners and rightfully so.

Apparently he was anti-bike, too.

Wait, he wants a cyclist to go at 40 or 60 mph? Isn't a speed limit, you know, a *limit*, not a command?

Not in California. If you are doing the speed limit and it's raining, you can be ticketed for driving that fast in "unsafe conditions". You can also be ticketed for "creating unsafe driving conditions" if you're going below the speed limit. You can fight it, of course, but if the cop shows up in traffic court, you'll probably lose, citizen. Whether or not you get stopped if you are not doing anything wrong is sometimes merely a question of "how bored is the cop?".

Mr. President, I haven't agreed with all of your decisions but of course I haven't agreed with all of your predecessors decisions. I think you've done a hell of a job with what you have been dealt and how you have managed it. I shed a tear the night you were initially elected President in 2008. I never thought that day would occur. A black man elected president in the U.S. in my lifetime. I cracked a smiled when you were re-elected in 2012 because I really didn't think you were going to pull that one off.

Funny you left out this part:

So what was the point in all of this again?

Oh yeah, you got to make your cute little political point. Now that you have, we can move on to the actual topic at hand.-

If he had been anti-gun control it would have been on the cover of every paper, the leading headline of every news report, and the first thing out of the gun control posters mouths on websites like this.  You damn well know it and you'd be saying the NRA gave the means for this "gun terrorist" to perform his acts and the NRA, along with its members, should be rounded up.  Not as much fun when the shoe's on the other foot is it?

It must've taken a lot of work to construct that strawman huh?

Everything you disagree with is a strawman.  Maybe you should try using things like facts to back up your arguments for a change instead of erroneously accusing your opponents of logical fallacies when they school you.

/of course, facts have a conservative bias

There were facts in that emotion laden tripe he posted?

I never said that. I just said they never take these events seriously and seem to get the impression that the NRA thinks this is something we just have to deal with. I guess they're entitled to that opinion, but I respectfully disagree.

The only good idea they had is having more police officers stationed in schools. I agreed with the NRA on that one.

You don't seem to understand - it's the barrel of sewage theory of political identification.  Just like one drop of sewage in a barrel of wine turns the whole barrel into sewage, but one drop of wine in a barrel of sewage still leaves it a barrel of sewage, one non-conservative view makes you a liberal, no matter how many conservative views you hold.

Conservatives can get away with this order of preference:
1) Vote Republican
2) Vote Libertarian
3) Refuse to vote, be angry no matter the outcome, but despair if the Democrat wins

If your preference is:
1) Vote Republican
2) Vote Libertarian
3) Refuse to vote, but be happy the Democrat won  <=========== RED FLAG  (And by "Red" we mean all meanings of it)

Bungles: I think one of the biggest difference with the USA and the rest of the Western world isn't the religiosity or the guns or political circus or the lack of social safety nets, but the nature of the police.

No-one in the UK or France or Australia or Germany or Canada or New Zealand would think twice about going up to a policeman and asking for directions or just a chat. The police in the US just seem to be wired and scary and angry.

Sadly, this is very true... when I was in London I asked one of the cops where such and such was, and he actually walked with me about a block to show me. Being from the US I initially thought this was to lure me into a merciless beatdown, but it turns out he was just being helpful.

Cops here are complete sh*tbags. I hope Dorner is keeping his firearms well maintained while on the run.

/the schadenfreude of watching the cops liberals hate hide behind the public sector unions they love is wonderful

Fail in Human Form: Mrtraveler01: So I read the manifesto and I do see where he does support gun control and likes Piers Morgan.

He also listens to KFI (right-wing talk radio) and actually thinks Tim Tebow was good and Mark Sanchez is a rapist.

So are you saying you're in support of crazy people obtaining or owning firearms?

Because if you have a point, I don't think you're making it very well...

Phinn: The LAPD is so generous (with taxpayer money), they should probably rename their organization to something more appropriate.

Or they could just do to her what they do to the few good cops that report the bad cops: send her on violent crime in progress calls and when she calls for backup, nobody is available.

It wasn't always like that. I remember small-town police being pretty laid back when I was a kid (1970's). The militarization of law enforcement really began in the 80's.

This doesn't show that the cops are tense and stressed out from one of their own, it just expands the known knowledge that many on the force are grossly incompetent, abuse their power over the public they're meant to serve and perfect (ironically serving their own interests and putting the public in harm's way).

If the LAPD wants to fix all this PR damage, they'll find Dorner without killing him (good luck on that one), bring him to rightful justice, get rid of any and all on the force found out to be abusing their badge (i don't over in the states, but i know that will never happen, ESPECIALLY considering it's the LAPD)

It seems to have happened over a number of years... I know this is a bad example, and I'm sorry, but if you watch the first few seasons of COPS the police were normal sized men and women and they only used the violence that was necessary. If you watch COPS now it's a bunch of roided up freaks with arms and legs the size of hams tackling and spearing people ¼ - ½ their size.

Pretty much.  Just another day in LA the USA.  LAPD, scumbags all.

Americans in general have no idea how corrrupt their law enforcement has gotten.  If they are not being bothered directly then they assume everything is fine and under control.  They even have a mental filter to remove the dirty images that may happen in front of them day to day.  I would put APD up there as just as corrupt as LAPD after witnessing them in action for over 30 years (got real bad after a lot LAPD came to austin and got management positions).  We simply have less cops than LAPD so less incidents.  Frankly APD scares the fark out of me after all I have witnessed.  I honestly wouldnt mind California as a place to live if not for all the corruption of LAPD.

The mere fact that a cop can get away with almost anything with nothing more than "paid administrative leave" ('Being dragged out of the spotlight until people stop looking') has corrupted police. Power corrupts, and corruption without consequences just breeds MORE corruption.

Yep. At this point, Dorner could walk into the station, unarmed, to turn himself in, and he'd still get gunned down. And the officer(s) who did it would get a slap on the wrist at best.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Not in California.

I believe that is true all over.

Here if you get into an accident, no matter who is at fault, all of the drivers involved get a ticket for the accident, and one for driving to fast for conditions, no matter what the conditions are. The saddest example of this was when one of my friends was rear ended. He was stopped in the left turn lane waiting to make a left turn. I guess this lady was trying to get into the turn lane and somehow hit him on the passenger side of his car in the rear. When the police came he gave them both a ticket for the accident, and gave them both a ticket for driving too fast for conditions. Yes, he gave my friend a ticket for driving too fast for conditions despite the fact that he wasn't moving, never mind the fact that it was midday and dry.

But back to these cops. Shouldn't there be video of this shooting? Don't these cars have dashboard cams that start up when the cars are put into park or the door opens? Or did they disable those in the cars of the cops that were put on assassin duty?

I'm curious about something....
From what I gather(which may not be correct), the cops blocked off the vehicle, with no lights flashing, in early dawn hours(which might make it difficult to see who's blocking your vehicle) and opened fire.
What might have happened if the persons in question thought they were being carjacked/robbed by persons unknown and shot back?

You mean that the two women didn't shoot back and kill a few cops, because most gun owners go to the range several times a month and are probably better shots than most cops?

I don't know if I would have returned fire in that situation. You know you're outmanned and outgunned. If your enemy has ceased firing your odds might be better if you held. That's a really tough call. Almost impossible if you're ambushed. The people in the truck had little in the way of cover.

My post was referring to Dornings.

Yep. At this point, Dorner could walk into the station, unarmed, to turn himself in, and he'd still get gunned down. And the officer(s) who did it would get a slap on the wrist at best.

Followed by thousands of pats on the shoulder.

Yes, my firearms are protecting me not even primarily from criminals, but from the "serve and protect" SS who constantly abuse their badges and are just plain - sloppy.  Like this incident.

I mean, WTF?!  The truck "looked like" the one they were chasing?!  "Looked like"?!  So two innocent civilians are now shooting victims - to the very badge sworn to protect them.  If cops could shoot worth sh*t, the women would be dead.

Notice this side story of the manhunt has *poof* - disappeared from media reporting.  In was an unthing.

Newsflash, sparky. The cops are, more likely than not, going to be better trained and better prepared than a random civilian, even if their actual armaments are comparable. Not to mention that, if you kill one cop in 'self-defense', you're going to be facing down the business end of a SWAT team before long.

The answer to this isn't to make the citizenry more heavily armed. It's to stop letting police be above the law.

DS1970: If this isn't an argument for citizens arming themselves, I don't know what is.

In fact, the situation is a vindication of California's "may issue" concealed weapons permit system.

Were California not to deny the right to keep and bear arms in public to most citizens, a law-abiding armed citizen witnessing the police opening fire on a vehicle without warning may, justifiably, mistake the police officer for a mass shooter and, in an attempt to stop the shooting, use deadly force against the police officer. As such, California's current system may have actually saved police officer lives.

StokeyBob: Police seeking Dorner opened fire in a second case of mistaken identity

FTA
"The circumstances of the incident known to the responding officers would have led a reasonable officer under normal circumstances - and these were far from normal circumstances - to believe that fellow officers were being shot at and that the vehicle traveling toward them posed a serious risk.

They used the "It's coming right at me" defense.

That statement was just sad.

2013-02-10 01:53:18 PM
It's funny (in a not-funny-actually-pretty-sick sort of way) that the second incident  occurred when officers freaked out at the cry of "shots fired" and shot the hell out of the random pickup that had to be passing because it might maybe be trying to kill them, when the only shots fired was the LAPD trying to kill two unarmed and not dangerous women who were not committing any sort of crime.  And then they call it a justified shooting:

In a statement to The Times, the department said: "The circumstances of the incident known to the responding officers would have led a reasonable officer under normal circumstances - and these were far from normal circumstances - to believe that fellow officers were being shot at and that the vehicle traveling toward them posed a serious risk.
"In the split seconds available to them," the statement continued, "action was appropriate to intervene and stop the actions of the driver of that vehicle."

It's like Yakety Sax should be playing continuously wherever LAPD officers are present.

If someone is actually attempting to kill you out of nowhere, odds are that, even if you ARE carrying, you'll be dead before you can draw unless you're a professional quickdraw shooter. And that's assuming there's only one shooter.

In a mass-shooting situation, arming civilians is also just going to cause more trouble when people are caught in the crossfire, or, if enough people are armed, others suspect YOU of being the shooter.

Again, the solution to this isn't MOAR GUNS!111! It's to try and make sure that the actual situation doesn't farking happen, whether that requires stronger mental healthcare, tighter restrictions on gun sales (I, for one, am not calling for any sort of *ban*, just more widespread background checks and harsher punishments to those who don't provide them), or a crackdown on police corruption.

No that isn't true. I saw a documentary on teevee once where a guy, despite being shot at by multiple assailants, and being hit 3 times, was able to do a forward roll and come up to one knee in perfect shooting stance and kill all of the bad guys. Then afterwards he agreed with his partner that he was getting too old for that shiat.

Ummmmm....
I AM a professional quick-draw shooter... and if I were shot at by surprise from behind, by 7 cops, I doubt I'd have a chance to take more than one out before getting hit myself.

And yes, professional quick-draw shooters exist.  We shoot at targets.

What surprises me is the incompetence of these so-called "professional" shooters... that many shots at close range and no kill? Come on.... I could empty a clip, reload and empty another at that range and get much better grouping.... Left-handed.

I was on a mountainbike/hiking trail in an urban park a few weeks ago and was surprised by a hunter in a tree. I called the state conservation department to see if this was even legal and they said it was, but I should complain to the city parks service if I had a problem with it. I called them to ask why they couldn't even be bothered to post notices so people could be aware they were walking right into a hunt, and after lying about posting signs, he tells me not to worry, that most of the hunters who got these special permits were cops.

I laughed and said, "Is that supposed to somehow make me feel better? It doesn't. Cops are terrible shots." He wasn't amused. Really, neither was I.

So what's all this about not voting because "your guy won't win"?
Even though I knew my state would vote for my guy, and I had money bet that the other guy would win,
I voted.
I won the bet... which makes up about $5 from the $1400 I'll lose from new taxes.
There was a big local election where I voted against my usual party lines and voted for a candidate opposing a very well entrenched incumbent.  I voted, not because it would really work, but to make sure I was added to the percentage agin' him.
Last time he won by the same percentage as Kim Jong-Un
This time it was down to Mohammed Morsi levels....
Next time.... maybe as tight as Hitler in 1938...
After that, he'll probably be to old...
Feel free to guess my area and the politician in question

Had to look it up since you asked.  Seems your right, Quan was just a coach, her BF was a cop.  So far 1 civy killed by Dorner and at least 1 killed by the cops.    I admit If he had just killed the douchnozzle guy that screwed him over and other cops it would have helped his image tremendously.  This father Quan was either really hard to get to or Dorner REAALLY wanted to hurt him bad for the rest of his life.

JWideman: Phinn: The LAPD is so generous (with taxpayer money), they should probably rename their organization to something more appropriate.

Or they could just do to her what they do to the few good cops that report the bad cops: send her on violent crime in progress calls and when she calls for backup, nobody is available.

Promote her to captain; that will  get her off the streets.

You're both wrong.  Lawyer has stated that truck does not preclude lawsuit, establishing claim to further compensation.

If you accept partial payment on a debt, that doesn't extinguish your claim to more unless you sign a contract to such effect.

Contrary to urban myth, writing "payment in full' on a check's memo field doesn't mean squat even if the creditor endorses and cashes the check.  A contract must be formed in "good faith," and this stunt is a classic example of bad faith.  The creditor gets your partial payment and you still owe the balance.

Ah yes, I remember someplace was making a law like that. It's a good step for cases of abuse, but in practice you're probably still going to get shot, and they may even plant evidence to bolster their side of the story.

Never gonna happen.

They'll re-exonerate her, and then either move her to some unimportant desk job, or assign her to the most dangerous task force in the department, where she will meet an untimely death at the hands of persons unknown, to then be remembered as a glorious fallen hero.

I can't find anything stating that Randy Quan's daughter, Monica is a police officer or her finace Kieth Lawrence.
The only info I can find states that Monica Quan was an assistant coach for Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team and Keith Lawrence was an USC security officer.

From Dorner's manifesto "I never had the opportunity to have a family of my own, I'm terminating yours. Quan, ..., and BOR members Look your wives/husbands and surviving children directly in the face and tell them the truth as to why your children are dead," the manifesto read, in part. "

It seems that Monica Quan was killed because Randy Quan did not do a good enough job before the hearing to keep Dorner on the force and Kieth Lawrence may have been killed because of wrong place/wrong time
