DS1970: If this isn't an argument for citizens arming themselves, I don't know what is.

Yes, my firearms are protecting me not even primarily from criminals, but from the "serve and protect" SS who constantly abuse their badges and are just plain - sloppy.  Like this incident.

I mean, WTF?!  The truck "looked like" the one they were chasing?!  "Looked like"?!  So two innocent civilians are now shooting victims - to the very badge sworn to protect them.  If cops could shoot worth sh*t, the women would be dead.

Notice this side story of the manhunt has *poof* - disappeared from media reporting.  In was an unthing.

Its kind of funny how that fact has been completely glossed over durring the evolution of this story.  You have to be paying attention and check a few sources but you can find it if you dig around enough.  Both the daughter and the fiance, both cops.  This wasn't some teenage heartthrob and her quarterback boyfriend.

Yep, we'll, there are a subset of farkers that will literally go into any thread about cops indiscriminately slaughtering citizens and spend hours and hours slobbing cop knob and bending over backwards defending the thin blue line.

This is the result of a highly ethical individual breaking against the corruption of modern cop culture, snapping and deciding that the only thing left to do is put the LAPD down like a diseased, rabid animal. Is he arrogant, perhaps megalomaniacal? Perhaps. But he is also an honorably discharged American Hero, whose service earned him extremely high security clearance. They tend to select ppl carefully for that kind of clearance. Just sayin.

Sadly, the LAPD is only proving how correct he is.

I wonder if the LAPD are focusing so many resources on catching/assassinating Dorner or Hispanic ladies delivering LA Times newspapers, that other criminal matters are being ignored. I bet criminals in LA must feel it's open season to do whatever because their chances are better now that they will get away with the crime. It would be interesting to see the police response times to 911 calls before and after Dorner started killing people.

ongbok: StokeyBob: Police seeking Dorner opened fire in a second case of mistaken identity

FTA
"The circumstances of the incident known to the responding officers would have led a reasonable officer under normal circumstances - and these were far from normal circumstances - to believe that fellow officers were being shot at and that the vehicle traveling toward them posed a serious risk.

They used the "It's coming right at me" defense.

That statement was just sad.

I would understand the fear I suppose if it was a burned out truck coming at them.

Wasn't it already found at this point?

I hope those Women who were shot file a Federal Lawsuit agaist those Trigger happy Officers and the Police Department.  Will they never learn? It seems like they would have learned after they had to pay out so much Money after the Rodney King Incident. I guess it is time for another Lesson.

Althougth I do not condone Mr. Dorner's Actions, it seems he finally reached his breaking Point. We all have one.

It's in Christopher Dorner's "manifesto".  Maybe you should do a shred of research before acting like a jack ass.

He also said he didn't vote because Huntsman didn't win the Republican Primary.

So you're being either deliberately obtuse or you're incapable of finding the unedited manifesto, either way it doesn't do much to suggest you're capable of logical thought.

He can like more than one person, he didn't vote for either because he "knew" neither could win.  He specifically praised Obama, so yes, he's an Obama fan.   You are the one not capable of logical thought.

Just as long as you don't fit the Dorner's description...on second thought just make sure you aren't driving a truck and you'll be fine. Probably.

If someone is actually attempting to kill you out of nowhere, odds are that, even if you ARE carrying, you'll be dead before you can draw unless you're a professional quickdraw shooter. And that's assuming there's only one shooter.

In a mass-shooting situation, arming civilians is also just going to cause more trouble when people are caught in the crossfire, or, if enough people are armed, others suspect YOU of being the shooter.

Again, the solution to this isn't MOAR GUNS!111! It's to try and make sure that the actual situation doesn't farking happen, whether that requires stronger mental healthcare, tighter restrictions on gun sales (I, for one, am not calling for any sort of *ban*, just more widespread background checks and harsher punishments to those who don't provide them), or a crackdown on police corruption.

No that isn't true. I saw a documentary on teevee once where a guy, despite being shot at by multiple assailants, and being hit 3 times, was able to do a forward roll and come up to one knee in perfect shooting stance and kill all of the bad guys. Then afterwards he agreed with his partner that he was getting too old for that shiat.

Maybe you can point out to me the part where he says he didn't vote for Obama because he didn't think he could win.

Ummmmm....
I AM a professional quick-draw shooter... and if I were shot at by surprise from behind, by 7 cops, I doubt I'd have a chance to take more than one out before getting hit myself.

And yes, professional quick-draw shooters exist.  We shoot at targets.

What surprises me is the incompetence of these so-called "professional" shooters... that many shots at close range and no kill? Come on.... I could empty a clip, reload and empty another at that range and get much better grouping.... Left-handed.
On the other hand, these are the guys who thought a small, skinny Mexican woman looked like a large, heavily built, bald, African-American man....
Come on guys, if you can't tell for sure, you've got no business using deadly force...

If I go too slow in a car I can be ticketed for disrupting traffic or something like that. Why shouldn't the same standard apply to bikers

I was on a mountainbike/hiking trail in an urban park a few weeks ago and was surprised by a hunter in a tree. I called the state conservation department to see if this was even legal and they said it was, but I should complain to the city parks service if I had a problem with it. I called them to ask why they couldn't even be bothered to post notices so people could be aware they were walking right into a hunt, and after lying about posting signs, he tells me not to worry, that most of the hunters who got these special permits were cops.

I laughed and said, "Is that supposed to somehow make me feel better? It doesn't. Cops are terrible shots." He wasn't amused. Really, neither was I.

So what's all this about not voting because "your guy won't win"?
Even though I knew my state would vote for my guy, and I had money bet that the other guy would win,
I voted.
I won the bet... which makes up about $5 from the $1400 I'll lose from new taxes.
There was a big local election where I voted against my usual party lines and voted for a candidate opposing a very well entrenched incumbent.  I voted, not because it would really work, but to make sure I was added to the percentage agin' him.
Last time he won by the same percentage as Kim Jong-Un
This time it was down to Mohammed Morsi levels....
Next time.... maybe as tight as Hitler in 1938...
After that, he'll probably be to old...
Feel free to guess my area and the politician in question

Had to look it up since you asked.  Seems your right, Quan was just a coach, her BF was a cop.  So far 1 civy killed by Dorner and at least 1 killed by the cops.    I admit If he had just killed the douchnozzle guy that screwed him over and other cops it would have helped his image tremendously.  This father Quan was either really hard to get to or Dorner REAALLY wanted to hurt him bad for the rest of his life.

There are at least two versions of it floating around (not counting edits that just redact names). One of them stops at:

I have the strength and benefits of being unpredictable, unconventional, and unforgiving. Do not waste your time with briefs and tabletops.

while the other one carries on into cuckoo-for-cocoa-puffs land talking about politics, gun control, and celebrities. I have not yet found a credible reference to what Dorner actually wrote, i.e. did The Internet put in extra crazy-text for lulz, or was it snipped out of the other version to make him look sane?

But go ahead and continue to cherry pick parts of the manifesto to back up your own crackpot theories. I won't stop you.

He wasn't remotely a neocon like his son, or were you hoping to conflate the two?

Now they are offering a million dollar reward for him. I think all large bald black men will be calling in for work over the next few weeks.

So George H.W Bush is a liberal in your eyes?

And Chris Christie (another politician he praised) is a liberal in your eyes?

If that's the case, then you have one farked up political spectrum going on.

Warthog: Hispanic and delivering newspapers in LA?  I seriously doubt the immigration status of these two 'victims.'  If they'd just stayed in Mexico, this would not have happened.

It only took one page of comments for one these moronic comments to get belched out.  Sweeping generalizations and a lack of logic make farktard out of you.

And people wonder why normal citizens want to keep their guns?  Apparently cops don't like a fair fight.

Pockafrusta: tekmo: DogBoyTheCat: What surprises me is the incompetence of these so-called "professional" shooters. L.A.P.D. - the organization who couldn't frame a guilty man. (Remember O.J.)

>>L.A.P.D. - the organization who couldn't frame a guilty man. (Remember O.J.)

LAPD, the organization who got away with brutalizing Rodney King, even though there was irrefutable evidence they brutalized Rodney King.

Are you stupid or trolling? "The court jury awarded King $3.8 million"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodney_King

and where did that 3.8 million come from?  from the citizens of L.A. not the pockets of those assholes.

EdNortonsTwin: Anyone know who pays for this massive manhunt?  Are the costs divided among all the departments who contribute man power?

DHS will quietly pick up the tab.

Bontesla: Mrtraveler01: Bontesla: EdNortonsTwin: He's also a fanboy of George H Bush, and Joe Scarborough according to his manifesto.  Not so sure his politics have all that much to do with his Captain Ahab persona.

I feel like his political affiliation is probably the least relevant part of the story.

I agree, but that doesn't stop a few nutjobs from trying to make this a political thing and get all whiny when they get called out on their BS.

Now to the topic at hand...what kind of truck are they getting?

The kind that comes with liability waiver? No personal responsibility from the LAPD.

Do you also find the entire story kind of odd?

Well, a couple of tickets to the Policemen's Ball would have been better.  But I doubt there are any of those in the asset-forfeiture pool.

You suck at basic logic.

Also, being a liberal doesn't mean you have to hate Bush Sr., he was probably as liberal as many modern dems.  The entire political landscape has been dragging to the right and towards authoritarianism for decades.

JWideman: Phinn: The LAPD is so generous (with taxpayer money), they should probably rename their organization to something more appropriate.

Like the "Ministry of Love."

Anyway, one of the loose ends in this sordid tale is that the LAPD still has Teresa "Chupacabra" Evans to deal with.  They can't find her retroactively guilty and fire her, because that would validate the actions of the crazy-man Dorners.  And they can't keep her around on patrol while she continues to kick people in the chest, crack skulls and flay the skin off of people.

So, really, the only two options for the LAPD at this point are to either kill her (like she's some kind of Asian newspaper thrower or something), or promote her.  She'll probably end up with a desk job with a fat pension where she can't sadistically torture citizens quite as frequently as she does these days.

Or they could just do to her what they do to the few good cops that report the bad cops: send her on violent crime in progress calls and when she calls for backup, nobody is available.

Promote her to captain; that will  get her off the streets.
