MahicanDream: Bontesla: MahicanDream: Bontesla: MahicanDream: Bontesla: You don't have an informed opinion. You have an interpretation of a handful of facts. You don't even have all of the facts as there's an ongoing investigation. You're seriously claiming that despite all of the sh*t you don't know (and aren't aware of what you don't know) - you can make an informed decision?

Stupidity of the masses.

My opinion comes from facts, I am not making a value judgement based on who I think the guy is. Whether he is a good guy or not is irrelevant, yet you keep repeating it like some mantra to counteract reality. The only facts we have all point to him doing this, including his own warnings of violence.

Your opinion stems from a few facts - not all facts.

And much of what you consider facts are actually just the interpretation of facts. That's pretty common. People, in general, have difficulty determining the difference between the facts and the story. It's not a life skill that we teach and learn.

Well which is it, does my opinion come from a few facts or just things I am confusing as facts? You don't even know how to prosecute my argument coherently. That's pretty common. People in general have difficulty determining the difference between analyzing an argument and attacking it because they feel a suspected murderer is "a good guy". It's not a life skill that we teach and learn, clearly.

I said you were doing both.

So, to summarize, my opinion comes from facts AND it comes just from things I am confusing as facts. That is one hell of an argument, accusing me of possessing Schroedinger's facts/not facts and all. Between that stunningly dumb statement of yours and the assertion that Dorner is a good guy there is no  way you can be serious. Nice trolling, many bites.

Oh ffs. Are you normally this dense or is it when you're trying to white knight a cause online?

I'm saying you're not making an informed opinion because your information largely consists of partial facts and partial interpretation of facts. Further - you don't have the tools to be aware what evidence you're not privy to.

As a result what you think of as being informed isn't.

As a long-time lurker, usually anything I'd have to contribute to a thread gets said by someone else, hence I saw no reason to get involved before now just to post "THIS" all the time.

I've not yet seen this though, and it's what comes to mind first when this news story comes up:

District of Columbia.

Amerigo Vespucci just drew a map, the Italian coont that was.

Christopher Columbus established trade and colonies and even became the first European dictator in the Americas.

For the longest time, the USA was also referred to as Columbia. It's not my fault the Bolivians had the good taste to steal a great name for two fine continents. It's a nice name. I use it when I'm drunk because I never liked the idea that some cartographer gets all the glory while Columbus risked his ass.

I can't believe the NRA isn't all over this story: regardless of which side you believe, what a perfect story against gun control!

If you believe Dorner,  you should have a legal right to defend yourself against a corrupt police force and the government that is too corrupt to fix it.
If you believe the LAPD, you should have the legal right to defend yourself against a highly trained, armed and crazed ex-soldier/policeman.

If you still believe in gun control, you still have your right to be a pussy, stick your head in the sand , and hope that your precious govt/police give two shiats about your anonymous ass or your family - I hope that works out for you.

It's pretty telling that the cops just opened fire on the vehicle without warning.

U.S. Law enforcement wants this guy dead. No trial. No arrest.

I'd be incredibly surprised if Dorner is captured and arrested and faces trial.

According to his manifesto he's clear that he isn't worried about surviving to face trial.

The best possible outcome of this would be the capture of Dorner with no more bloodshed, a fair trial, and a complete reassessment and restructure of of LAPD's officer misconduct review policies and the establishment of a civilian review board with teeth. LAPD and the city of Los Angeles  (and our entire nation) needs this shakeup for its own good. The LAPD has a long-term malignancy that needs to be excised for the good of the city of Los Angeles. No more "thin blue line".

OK, then, a hypothetical:  Same two victims, same set of facts except that the only suspect is a white ex-cop who was dismissed from the force, and who left behind a manifesto excoriating Asians and blacks for "anti-white racism."  Would such a suspect have your sympathy as well?

Nah. Read his manifesto. He thinks WAY too highly of himself to commit suicide. (What type of person threatens a killing spree in one paragraph and then writes about his favorite comedians in the next? Someone who thinks ALL of his opinions are headline news worthy.)

Ten bucks says he is crashing on a friend's couch. He has an accomplice out there. He isn't a lone wolf.

UNAUTHORIZED FINGER: The best possible outcome of this would be the capture of Dorner with no more bloodshed

I'd guess that the chances of this happening are minimal.  Dorner is the only suspect in the murders of a Riverside, CA cop and the daughter of an ex LAPD captain.  He's not only armed, he's had extensive training in the use of guns.  If the cops find him alive, they'll shoot first and ask questions later.

Bad behavior from the people who are supposed to be trained and professional. The response by these people to Dorner is a bigger threat to public safety than their target. The Tacoma they shot up? Read the rest of the story, they shot the whole neighborhood up. Bullets all over the place.

About three meters?

All right then, no, my hypothetical question doesn't include the alternative universe you describe.  Do you sympathize with my hypothetical suspect sympathetic anyway?  Do you sympathize with Dorner, knowing that he is the only suspect in the murders of a black man and and Asian-American woman, given the existence of what you appear to believe is a near monopoly by whites on political and economic influence, and what you refer to as the regular abuse of a black underclass by the LAPD?

They actually can search your vehicle without a warrant, if they pull you over.  They can definitely search you car and person on private property, such as a ski resort, if the proprietors have given them permission.  Same goes for home and apartment rentals, as well as hotel rooms.  It's your house that they can't search without a warrant (and even then, they can come in if a suspect just went inside.  I'm not saying it's right, just that it's true.
