Description: Impromptu Twin Cities Fark Party & Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser - this Monday, 2/11/13 from 5pm to 7pm
Date/Time: February 11, 2013 - 05:00 PM (local time)
Party Info: Hey all! It's Miss.UnderstoodRedhead here! Your 'Cruise Director of Kool'!

Last minute invite to a fundraiser that a friend of mine is hosting. She started a foundation that helps kids with special needs, transition from partial care facilities to living independently.

This coming Monday, from 5 - 7pm at Ballentine VFW on Lake and Lyndale, they are serving up spaghetti dinner with all the fixings for $7.95. You can also win door prizes!

I'll post a link to the website and a copy of the flyer in the thread.

*Edit* - I'll post and link when this thread goes to the Fark Party tab - because I'm no longer TF.

I'm out.

Not because of the kids or anything like that, but because as of Monday I return to the night shift. I'll be an hour into trying to stay awake by the time this happens.

Good luck though.

The foundation's website.

I have put it to the committee and when the final vote is in, I will let you know if The Onanist and I will be there. I haven't made any plans for dinner on Monday, so that's a factor in favor.

4WD/AWD will not help you in freezing drizzle. Please use caution and don't go into the ditch like all those other yahoos I see every time we get this crap falling from the sky. EVERY time! You'd think they'd send out a freakin' memo, or include a post-it note on the steering wheel when you buy one or something.

Also, unless all MNDoT workers are killed on their way to work by yahoos in 4WD/AWD vehicles spinning out of control and causing massive pileups, I'm sure the roads will be driveable by Monday night. Or at least I hope so. :/

Miss.UnderstoodRedhead: udhq: Nope, I'm just a Monday night bingo regular.

When does bingo start?

It usually starts at 6, but I'm wondering if they'll push it back because of this.

I assume the fundraiser will be in the banquet hall, bingo is in the main bar area, so I'm not sure how much overlap there will be, but my party will definitely be hitting up the fundraiser before we play bingo.

Wow!  Only 2 blocks away from me... If I can find a sitter, I will have no excuses.

I went to this same event last year and I don't remember if there was bar bingo going on at the same time or not.

I'm glad to hear that you will be hitting the fundraiser!  She has put a lot into making this foundation work for these kids and their families.

You don't have a pic in your profile, but I do.  I hope you introduce yourself tomorrow!  It's always fun meeting new people!

Ugh.  I forgot to address this part.  Sorry.

Yes, the spaghetti dinner is in the banquet hall.  Last year, we had a few drinks in the bar first (not part of the fundraiser) and then went over for dinner (part of the fundraiser).

Not really - I won't be able to get there in time from work. So they got that going for 'em.

Which is nice.

Llois: CatherineM: I would love to look at the website of the foundation. Please post it when you get a chance!

The foundation's website.

Thanks!

Miss.UnderstoodRedhead:

I'm in Texas, so I will not be attending, but I was able to make a donation. I wanted to tell you that I think it's amazing that you're supporting your friend like this. Tell her that her cause and the idea behind her foundation means so much to so many people, and I appreciate it.

To anyone else who is unable to attend, it's super easy to donate (PayPal!) and I encourage everyone to take a look at the site and read about the awesome work Heartstrings Unlimited is doing!

Damn, I wish I could go.  Sounds like a great cause.  Also, because the last Twin Cities Fark Party Thread was so damn awesome, I want to add the following:

1) Will  Swagnetobe there?

2)  Fark seems to have way too many people with self-esteem issues who get really, really nasty when somebody admits to having any sort of success. When I was on AGT, I got to meet many of the other acts. With one or two exceptions, they were all very down-to-earth people--Professor Splash, Frank Miles, Those Funny Little People, Landau. No, it's the resentful basement dwellers who act very nasty when they're the least bit intimidated. I was hoping there'd be enough positive and successful people going to the party, but I'm afraid there'd be a lot of angry people instead...

phatix: Ragingthespian, is this your work?

No, sir. This one isn't mine.

Actually, I'm afraid I won't be able to make it to this one. Sadly, I have a writers' meeting at this time. I'll catch the next one for sure!

2013-02-11 01:40:37 AM
Have fun, all.  Be nice, you might run into my mom down there.  Little, but haz a big fierce, my mother.

2013-02-11 02:31:12 AM
Okay, a few other people mentioned the weather. Not trying to be overly serious here (this being Fark and all) but if MinneaPaul gets the same shiat we're getting here in Fargo, please be careful if you're driving into the cities. I don't know if it'll hit y'all or not, but every interstate that runs through Fargo is closed for about a hundred miles in every direction.

/kids out of school tomorrow
//probably no work tomorrow
///gonna play "throw the kids in the snowdrift"

4WD/AWD helps just fine in freezing drizzle; it's just that just like in snow & ice, it helps you GO.  It does not help you STOP or TURN, which is how those folks end up in the ditch.  Well, that and overconfidence.  :)

/love my Audi, but understand its *actual* benefits and limitations

Yeah, but it's on purpose. Don't want to tick off the paying clients too badly by letting the snarky crowd go wild on comments about their "featured link". I just view them as ads showing up in the headline queue that ad blockers can't block, so I don't click 'em. If I wanted to view ads for someone's product, I would. I'd also research it online. A purchased Fark link to a company site posing as a headline though? No thank you.
/I'm pretty sure "the snarky crowd" includes all of Farkdom, btw.
