How about drive in a circle, always turning left. That seems like a format that works pretty well.

But they know the order of finish, and which crew and drivers will lose points for out-of-their-ass violations.

/whose race is it anyway?

Well, hell.. We have already had the first "Big One" of the year... so it's looking like it is going to be a seriously fun season.

/Still slightly annoyed that we didn't get at least a video greenlight on that wreck.

"Sprint Unlimited"?

Oh, you mean the Busch Clash.

/at least with the Clash and The Winston, they abandon all pretenses of being legitimate and rig the format and starting order of the races for maximum sports entertainment value.

I really dislike nascar.coms new lay out. When are the minors running? Trucks, ARCA, etc.

I agree... I liked the old layout, and when I saw what they greeted the new year with, I was like WTF?

And I see Nascar decided to try and "penalize" start-and-parks by taking away $4000 of prize money per position from finishes from 39th to 43rd place. How about they suspend a team that (barring wrecks or verifiable mechanical failure of the car) can't finish 25% of the race laps for 5 races? And if they get suspended for that twice in a season, they get parked for the remainder of the season? I know sponsorship money is tight, but if they *really* wanted to do something about start-and-parks and sponsorship problems, they might want to consider reducing the size of the field by 5 cars.

ARCA: Feb 16 1:30
Sprint unlimited Feb 16 5:30
Duel 1 Feb 21 11:20
Duel 2 Feb 21 1:00
Trucks Feb 22 5:00
Nationwide Feb 23 10:00
500 Feb 24 10:30

All times are best coast times.

That took way too much time with your new web page NASCAR. And book some more damn road courses you bastards.

This x1000!  Ugh, what a terrible re-design.  Although even as a huge NASCAR fan, I rarely visit the site other than the standings page.  Its all fluff pieces anyway.

It's not like positions 37-43 matter a hell of a lot any way. When those positions are filled with old farts who are going to do their best to stay the hell out of the way you don't risk asshole moves from someone who's going to be out of the running anyway.

Jeezus I'm grumpy today. I need some beer and a race to watch.

Totally with you there.  Go to Road America!  The Nationwide race there is one of the best races of the year.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat.  I really don't care if someone wants to start and park.  So what, 30-35 top-tier racers are still in the race.  And its not like there's talent being prohibited from racing at the Sprint Cup level because of it.

Let them make their silly cash for 10-20 laps, and enjoy the rest of the race.

Huh.. first time I've visited nascar.com this year. Looks like they're finally doing the website themselves (TBS had until now done it for them) and this is the result.
I wonder if this also means no more Racebuddy.

Those weren't the options I was hoping for when voting for what outfit the trophy girl would be wearing.

Bud Shootout has been shot down?

BTW, if you're already in the Farker's Racing league and want to join another league too, there's room in our small collection of workmates and former workmates.  Same deal but smaller.  (Just the 6 of us plus whoever reads this post and joins up).

As for the start-and-parkers, they're taking up valuable spots for where Jimmie Johnson can finish when the idol(s) attack him.

As for the voting, too bad they did not have an option for how many jet dryers were allowed to be destroyed by Juan Pablo Montoya.

*sigh*

This is the new paradigm of NASCAR. The era of teams entering the Cup ranks moderately-funded and finishing top-15 is over. The 'start-and-park' teams  are the new up-and-comers. Instead of coming into the sport moderately funded, they're starting at the bottom of the ladder and working their way up; Furniture Row Racing and TBR are the best examples of this.

The last fully funded team to enter the ranks was Red Bull Racing(one might argue it was MWR, but that is debatable). Since then, not only have the 'start-and-park' teams begun to climb the ladder, they are the only entry path into the top level of NASCAR(unless you're Michael Andretti, or rich, in which case you're not starting and parking  anyway). They aren't going anywhere, and punishing them for trying to break into the sport is not only a terrible idea, it's detrimental to the sport.

When there is no incentive for someone to try and run and start-and-park team, you can kiss the 43-car field goodbye.
