I am shocked the man who led the 23rd best defense spent more than five minutes out of a job.

ZOMG! Someone made a hyperbolic statement that didn't actually turn out to be true? Stop the presses!

Compared to where New Orleans was last year with their defense, this is a dramatic improvement.

Am I losing my mind, or was a similar headline on here before? I even checked my calendar to make sure it was indeed the 9th.

Sigh, Ryan was the last person we should have let go.

Will he have a bounty on opposing coaches as Vitt said Williams did?  Did I read that correctly on the Times-Picayune site?

30 days?!?!  ZOMG!! Can you imagine if he'd said he'd have a job "in no time"? He'd be even more wrong!

/seriously, new gig, before the combine.  can't ask for more.
//Ryan looks like he belongs on the Raiders.
///not suggesting, they have enough problems

I'm getting a bit of deja vu as well from this.

Nope.  The Rams were supposedly going to hire him, but they changed their minds.

knbwhite: opposing coaches

If he does, I'm sure the players will roll their eyes and tell Vitt about the latest dumbass he-man crap out of his mouth, like the last time.  In the meantime, I just hope Rob Ryan can get to the defense to "aggressively mediocre."  I think that's a good goal to set, and coupled with the offense returning to full dynamite status with Payton back, it'll take 'em a long way.  Certainly longer than 7-9 got 'em, anyway.

If you read something on nola.com, you most likely *read* it correctly but it wasn't correct.

Pretty much this.  The Saints will be fine with a mediocre defense.  Just limit the mistakes, and let Payton, Brees and co. take it from there.

Put 2012 behind you and make it happen!

Yep.

Deadspin did a article about teams abusing the IR system and the cowboys ranked 2nd on average for most injured players in the entire league over the course of the season. Its hard to win when half your team is in crutches and wheelchairs.

You see what happens, Harper?  You see what happens?  DO YOU SEE WHAT HAPPENS, HARPER, WHEN YOU FARK YOUR DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR IN THE ASS!

Hey... who knows how he'll do without Uncle Jerry up his ass with a microscope.

Not a pretty picture, I must concede. Plus, it's probably the wrong instrument to use.

I fully expect to see him on the sidelines with a box of blintzes.

Sooo ... if your last name is Ryan, you're pretty much guaranteed a gig in the NFL, no matter how much you suck at your job?

/hold on there, Matt Ryan ... just keep moving along, nothing to see here ... you get a pass this year.

Wolfman Rob is gonna howl in NOLA. Perfect spot for a party animal DC who has a gambler mentality and goes full maniac on the sidelines.. That is a style the head coach meshes well with.

Now if he can just teach the linebackers and cornerbacks to wrap up when theytackle instead ofbouncng off ball carriers the NFC South will once again belong to  the Saints

Fat Gandalf turned down a job in between, so that must have added a few minutes.

Of all the problems in that dysfunctional clown car of a team known as the Cowboys, the DC was probably one of the least egregious, and I'm saying that as someone who cannot stand them.  Jerry did Ryan a favor in getting him out of town, and the Saints are undoubtedly going to be incredibly motivated at ALL levels come August, with Payton and Vitt back on the job, and Ryan driving the defense.  The Falcons are going to find their stay at the top of the division rather short-lived, I think.

Forgot about the Dom. But at least I'll be able to watch Dallas this year without seeing Ryan on TV 1000 times.

Of course, now I won't watch NO.

Saints fan here ... not seeing the real upside.  He seem to be Williams version 2.  I guess if their organizational plan is to have no defense, you'd want a loud DC and pray his screaming will get enough production out of scrubs to allow the offense a chance to win.

As an Australian who watches more NFL than Aussie Rules (supports Port Power in the Australian rules football, those guys haven't been worth watching in years sadly) I've been a life-long N'Orlins fan and I'm really hoping the Saints are over the worst of their recent ills. Brees still seems to be at the top of his game, or perhaps just over the peak, and young Jimmmy's best days are still ahead of him.

What I don't get about NFL coaches, and feel free to enlighten me, is that in most sports coaches who have failed at one team or another can do very well with another team due to subtle differences in style, communication and support from the players. Is this not the case in NFL? Is it a case of once-failed forever doomed?
