I'm going to upgrade my opinion of Walmart from "evil" to "mostly evil" - upgrade pending whether corporate takes action against the manager responsible.

So, business as usual, then?

2013-02-09 10:59:33 AM
Good for them.  Hopefully Corporate doesn't f*ck this up and punish the store...

Do they sell beer?  I could see making due for a few days there with a credit card on hand.

They can survive in there for months, especially if it's a Super Walmart with a grocery store inside. In a zombie apocalypse make a run for the Super Walmart.

They got about a foot more out there around Middle Island than we did on this part of the island. Three hours from Commack to Middle Island is insane.

We never really had WalMarts on LI until about 10 or so years ago. Now there's a bunch.

Upton, where I am right now, got 30" (the most in NY state), and it feels like twice that is on my car.
I tried to dig it out and gave up after 45 minutes - there's nowhere to put the snow. I'm going to have
to wait until the lot gets plowed to have any chance.

At least the sun is out and it's fairly warm now

Supposedly, the biggest blizzard in thirty five years is coming.

Hey, I know! Let's go driving!

In New York, likely yes.

The storm started ramping up around 3pm while most people were trying to leave work, so the plows never really had a chance. By the time there was anything to plow the roads were choked with stranded vehicles.
I left work at 4pm, my commute is only 5 miles down a state road, so I was less worried.

Made it home by 4:30 yesterday, plows came by at noon today just as I was finishing digging out the car.

And people are actually complaining because Governor Patrick ordered all non-essential drivers off the road at 4PM yesterday in MA.  At least we have no scenes like this.

Bad idea.  Ground zero of the infection will probably be AT walmart.

The Mom and Pop stores that Walmart drove out of business never could have done something like this.

You know those bins with the cheap video games and 5 dollar dvds? Don't touch those. We call those "the sars bin". Every sick person coughs into it while mauling every dvd.

They're shopping at Wal Mart before it was cool.  They'll come out sporting flat brimmed hats, cheap aviator shades, and XXXL t-shirts with day glo slogans on them.

Tim Hortons and just random nice people invite stranded people in Ontario to their places during severe snow squalls.

I tremble thinking of the possibility of the outcome of this Walmart encampment 9 months from now. Used to be "People of Walmart", soon it might be "Babies of Walmart". Mayans might have missed it by a year.

Wow...you sure rollover and sellout your values rather quickly, eh?  I hate to break the news but all sorts of random acts of kindness occur at Walmarts everywhere, every day.  Maybe if you lowered your overwrought rhetoric a bit, you might be able to see them.

The derp is so strong about the ban. People are so outraged about the ban, they'll drive the minute it is lifted, probably driving at posted speed.

Dammit, what made Bostonians so stupid in 35 years? You used to be so cool.

Walmart is awesome. Truly one of the best corporations on Earth.

What are these retarded drivers doing out in that? No doubt they were warned not to drive.  After Walmart saves their asses they should be tossed in the pokey.

Walmart's ineptness at the most simple concepts of logistics has done more to keep me from shopping there than anything Obama could've done.

Is this the same Walmart where somebody got crushed to death Ina stampede on "Black Friday" a couple of years ago?

Hipster douche rhetoric against WalMart--bah.  Those Mom and Pop stores went out of business because they did not have a sufficient variety of merchandise and what they did have was overpriced.  Plus,  a customer had to deal with whatever shiatty mood they were in that day.  Not me, I hate those little entremanuers.
Love WalMart--good prices, nice employees, lots of merch.  Nice place to walk around if nothing else.  I love going there late at night.
I keep 'em in business.  All my stuff comes from there.

In Ontario, we got about a foot of snow. It's possible to navigate, just a big pain in the ass. My Friday classes were cancelled, so I danced a little jig, then got caught up on assignments. My poor friend had to haul ass to the mall for her crappy retail job. She said everyone just sat around and stared mostly, they only had a dozen customers the entire day. Finally, corporate gave the stores permission to close early without penalty.

/if you don't need to go out, then don't

Nope, that was the Valley Stream one. About an hour from this one.

Your Wal-Mart sounds a lot different than the Wal-Mart like me which is over-crowded and understaffed.

Plus you get some interesting characters late at night.

Darwin's calling for a foul.  He can't believe the refs are allowing this.

Seriously, WTF were those people doing on the road?  If you know shiat like that is coming (I'm in the People's Republic of Best California and knew it was coming!), don't go to work the day it's supposed to hit.  If you must go to work, plan for the incredibly likely possibility that the storm will hit early and you'll be better off spending the night at work instead of trying to drive home in your front wheel drive mom-van with bald tires and no chains.
