If he expects to be President, his weight is a PR disaster. Stop pretending.

That doctor was exactly right.  The Presidency is incredibly stressful, which makes him having a heart attack all but guaranteed.

I can't argue, but first he has to be elected. I seriously doubt that will happen unless he loses a lot of weight.

Are there seriously people who won't vote for him because of his weight?

He's playing this all wrong.  Going all attack dog on a perfectly legitimate and very real concern will get you nowhere.  If this was about a candidate I would actually vote for, refusal to acknowledge the issue would be a real problem to me, because when it happened, they couldn't react to it right.

If this was me, I would be having regular checkups that were released, I would have an exercise plan worked out and released, and I would take a VP that was guaranteed to be ready to go when something happened, so they would have to be kept up to speed on everything.

Count on it. If they have an ounce of sense, the Dems will make him a walking joke. Hard to recover from that sort of thing, as Mitt can testify.

My problem with him is his temper. The job requires a very even-tempered person, who is capable of absorbing a lot of casual abuse without going ballistic. Obama may be a Muslim Nazi socialist communist Kenyan usurper anti-Christ fifth columnist who should be tried at Nuremburg for high crimes against humanity, but most people will admit he's a pretty cool character.

There are dozens of legitimate concerns about Christie, and if they go after him because of that, they deserve to lose.

I don't get it.  The list of (famous) heavy people who lost remarkable amounts of weight (often with 21st century medical assistance) continues to grow.  I'm sure farkers will add to this list but off the top of my head I'd cite Al Roker, Drew Carey, and Lisa Lampinelli.

He'd be playing right into Michelle Obama's hands if he lost weight. And that's the definition of socialism.

Given that, after hearing Dr. Mariano's claims, Christie's 12-year-old son asked him if he was going to die, Christie has every right to be outraged by what he called Mariano's "irresponsible" statement.

Oh geeze!  Your kid is 12 not 5.  It didn't hurt his precious psyche.  Stop bringing your kids into this, fatty.

i don't really care about the weight, but the 're-enforce your own poor impulse control' thing really isn't beneficial.

What if they go after him because of his weight in addition to all the other reasons? There's no reason that "morbidly obese" should be left off the list.

Y'know, I think the author did make a salient point: is an obese 50-something any more of a health risk than someone in their 70s who has been treated for cancer (McCain, Biden) or blood clots (Hillary)?

when you just totally give up on the idea of a waist, and just arbitrarily ram a belt in there somewhere, why on earth would you pick that high?

if the guy was standing at a urinal, all he'd be able to do is scratch his belly button.

Christie looked so uncomfortable during the Sandy days.  The last thing heavy guys want is to be photographed next to tall, thin folks.

Looking forward to the next campaign, when the right will scream that Christie's weight isn't an issue, but Hillary's blood clot is.

If your son is 12 and he doesn't realize that everyone is going to die, then you need to sit him down and have a frank discussion with him about life.  Go ahead and break the news about Santa too him while your at it.

And if you not completely worn out by then, give him the birds and the bees talk and see what kind of advice he can give you in the bedroom.

yah, but those things are frequently mentioned - mccain's health was absolutely a campaign issue. nobody really gives a shiat about the VP's health.

just sayin', balance that one out in both directions. if it's no more of a health risk, but those other people's health risks are openly discussed...why tip-toe around the fact that this guy isn't healthy?

Once you get past a certain point, you have to set the belt line "north of the equator". Otherwise you need to go with suspenders.

It is in poor taste to make fun of a person for something they can do nothing about: skin color, height, genetic handicaps, etc. Making fun of a fat guy is perfectly my acceptable because he is fat by his own doing. He chooses to be a manatee in a neck tie.

Sorry but the health of a candidate for a position with a four year term is not inconsequential.

Remember the issue of Christy's weight recently came up when a registered Republican doctor answered a question by saying she would be worried about Chritsy dying in office due to health porblems that can be caused by obesity.

It was Christy flying off the handle in response that made this a such a story. Nobody would have cared if he would have just let it go and not said a word. Of course his health wouldn't be an issue if he wasn't such a tub of goo.

That would be a foolish move. Republicans have unwittingly been making themselves out to be the villains for a while now. That would be one of the few ways the Democrats at this point could make themselves look like the bullies and Republicans like sympathetic victims. If the Democrats did this not only would they, as Gat said, deserve to lose, they'd probably guarantee it.

Think about it this way - it's not like there are no fat Americans to sympathize with him, right?

IgG4: Christies' biggest problem advantage:

[obamadiary.files.wordpress.com image 800x678]

FTFY -  You had that exactly backwards.

The average Republican voter isn't voting for a Democrat, no way no how, in a general election. Christie vs. a democrat and all the Republicans will vote for Christie. But Christie playing things like he has with Obama, and not being dismissive/frothy/ragey/dishonest at the mere possibility of bi-partisanship in general as most other republicans are right now, will play in his favor with moderates and moderate/rightist Democrats. He may not win among the Democrats - but he doesn't have to. He has to win among the whole voter pool.
