GandalfTheWhite: You gotta love the lack of bias in the article, particularly this little piece o' BS...

"This will include some whose parents feared the safety of the jab, following research by Dr Andrew Wakefield linking it to bowel problems and autism. This work has since been roundly discredited."

Wakefield has not been discredited. Saying he was doesn't make it so.

For you folks who believe essentially anything spewed by the MSM, nothing I say will make a difference, but for those of you who have the ability to think critically, dig deeper. Find out the exact percentage of those with measles who were and were not vaccinated, then take a look at other outbreaks and find out the percentages there. Primary sources, folks. Good luck with that. If you like reading, check out Neil Z. Miller's research.

For those of you who rag on Jenny McCarthy, I seriously doubt you have any more credibility than her, or that you've looked into ASD as much as she has. You see a headline, or a two-minute hit piece and you think you're informed. Wake the crap up, you ignorant fools. If you have a child with autism, you know the exact day things went south, and I bet it was the day after the MMR.

WAKE UP!!!

Did you drop out of nursing school? If not then you should just back off. Jenny knows what she is doing.

What's wrong with being artistic? If you ask me, we need more healthy artists out there, not the  wheezing fundy Christian tea partying-inhaler- huffing- pock-marked- leg braced posers who we're settling for these days. I say shoot up!

xria: Just in case anyone still has the mistaken impression that measles isn't a killer disease - 158,000 die a year from it still (mostly children, and mostly in low income countries without widespread vaccination) - given population growth the 2.6 million mostly children than died per year before widespread vaccinations started in the 1980s would now equate to more than 4 million children dying each year.

So campaigning against measles vaccination without knowing what you are talking about statistically makes you worse than Hitler - especially as at least his efforts weren't specifically targeting children for mass slaughter.

but jenny said it'd make my kid artistic.  you know, limp wrist and all that.  he's a real man, don't need no vitamins and crap.

Knew kids deaf and/or blind from measles.  Kids who had ricketts.  Who survived whooping cough and, barely, Diptheria.

I had measles twice.

I don't see this anymore.

Vaccines, ya think?

I'm not old enough. But I do remember how common iron lungs were in old movies when I was a kid.

Takeshi6400: When I was in nursing school, as part of our clinical rotation, we had to go around the units in the hospital offering the flu shot to employees.  A PCT refused the flu shot because she was worried that it would, "make her retarded."

Some people are just dumb.

I would have had to bite my tongue to not say, "Oh, so you've had it already?"

Repo Man: Melanie's Marvelous Measles

Melanie's Marvelous Measles was written to educate children on the benefits of having measles and how you can heal from them naturally and successfully. Often today, we are being bombarded with messages from vested interests to fear all diseases in order for someone to sell some potion or vaccine, when, in fact, history shows that in industrialized countries, these diseases are quite benign and, according to natural health sources, beneficial to the body. Having raised three children vaccine-free and childhood disease-free, I have experienced many times when my children's vaccinated peers succumb to the childhood diseases they were vaccinated against. Surprisingly, there were times when my unvaccinated children were blamed for their peers' sickness. Something which is just not possible when they didn't have the diseases at all. Stephanie Messenger lives in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, and devotes her life to educating people about vaccine dangers and supporting families in their natural health choices. She has the support of many natural therapists and natural-minded doctors.

Hey, man.  Jenny McCarthy's kid is an "indigo child."  He's the next step in human evolution, like an X-Man!

OMFG.  I guess I shou've known that such delusion was out there.

BlaqueKatt: PsiChick: meanmutton: Hey, I'm right there with the Jenny McCarthy hate but let's be honest here: this anti vaccination bullshiat comes from antiscientific world views. It's not just the far right's views on evolution and global warming but also the far left's views on nuclear energy, genetically modified food, organics, "toxins", and this idiotic, all pervasive anti vaccine stuff that it killing children.

I don't know what far left you're talking to, but the far left I know has a problem with GMOs  because they aren't studied properly. When you have every single cell of a corn kernel releasing pesticides, you actually need to study the effect of huge doses on pesticides in humans long-term.

/If you're going to play the 'both sides are bad' card, get both sides right.

You are of course refering to bacillus thurungus(bt) which is used in large quantities by organic farmers and is only toxic to certain moths-right? Which has to undergo rigorous testing before being approved for use, while so called "traditional" cross breeding, which moves large unregulated chunks of genetic material (including undesirable traits, such as toxicity), is not tested or regulated at all. Educate yourself before spouting off ok?

But I am afraid of science and progress. I only eat foods that were around before agriculture was invented.

It's paranoia in general.  It's anti-science on the right, and anti-business on the left.   Both have elements of anti-authoritarianism.

There's anti-science on both sides, they're just anti-science about different things.  Evolution and AGW on the right, and natural/organic crap on the left.

If you're into cigars and whiskey because they're "natural", while pasteurizing milk is an unhealthy abomination, you're a farking kook and you're doing it wrong.  (true story alert)

I was discussing this with one of my neighbors the other day. To my surprise, he's against vaccines. The more he babbled about vaccinations killing more people than disease, the dumber and dumber he looked. It was like he was de-evolving in front of me. From man to monkey in just a few derp-filled sentences.

Dude, we're old, it's not 1997 anymore.  I lost all interest in having that coont in my masturbatorium when I saw an article where she detailed how she successfully copes with IBS, it was the cover story.  If that's your thing then dream away I guess.....
