Just because the dumb Weather Channel is naming winter storms doesn't mean the rest of the world has to.

The Weather Channel's unilateral "naming" of winter storms has the same fishy stink of a "Name-A-Star" kit. No validity outside of the company that declares it.

Need folks advice.

I live on a culdesac. I'm right before the circle and this guy carmine bought the house across from me last summer. He owns an atv w/plow attachment and all winter he has done every driveway on the cul de sac. Without asking, he just figured it would make our lives easier. Now I moved in w/my dad here last summer, and I honestly don't know carmine or my of the other folks cause I work so much.

I think we Should get him a thank you gift. Just his help this morning (he was out there last night as well) saved meand my dad hours of backbreaking  shoveling. So what's appropriate here? Scotch? A case of beer or some wine? A gc to hoe depot?

Get him a gas card for the obvious reasons, and a gift card to Homie D would be nice. When you give him those, find out what he drinks. Nice gesture for both parties.

Agree. We have a neighbor like that. He is retired and very friendly and keeps active. Whenever we get a snow storm he'll come by with his plow and clear out our driveway as well as several other neighbors. Refuses to take money or gifts directly from folks, he says it is his version of "playing in the snow". We've gotten to know his (and his wife's)  hobbies are so they get appropriate gift cards left anonymously in their mailbox.

Sorry your tv remote is broken.

Subby needs to get slapped for using that. I'm specifically avoiding the Weather Channel because of their stupid naming system for winter storms.

Midcoast Maine here - 3' drifts outside the house. No trees down and we still have power... I'm sure that will change soon. We're going to be getting this storm well into tonight.

I'm glad I didn't go to work yesterday. That 20-car pileup in Maine is along my normal route to work. According to the local news, there is already 33" of snow in Gorham where I work. There was a 70 mph wind gust recorded last night around bedtime. We're going to all get another 6" at least before its over.

You mean a regional snowstorm where a major hub for overseas flights is? I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Oh and grow up.

So, we're going along with the Weather Channel's new thing of naming winter storms? Even though the National Weather Service doesn't agree with it?

Getting nothing here.  I wish it would snow real good here to keep the locals off the road and I can go out and enjoy some driving in the snow.  Alas, we get an 3/4 of an inch and everyone panics but still tries to go places whether or not they can handle the drive.  Stupid Virginia.  I think next storm I'm going to volunteer to shovel, as opposed to having to deal with no shoveling done, but enough salt put down on the sidewalks (after the snow stopped) for several storms, making walking in the grass on the snow and ice a million times safer.

I'll probably call my dad tomorrow to see how many times he has to threaten my brother to get any shoveling done.

Meh. 6 inches. Saw one car off the road my whole way home from work. Love driving my Subaru in the snow.
