In space no one can--- oh wait, I guess they can.

2013-02-08 09:42:32 PM
This has to be one of the coolest things ever. As a space geek and a musician, seeing something like this warms my heart.

2013-02-08 09:45:06 PM
Were they going for a Neil Young feel? If so, nailed it.

2013-02-08 09:47:53 PM
I'm not sure how a drum kit, a professional musician, a studio, and get this A CHORUS are counting as "in space"

But this is just one more brick in the wall for the sad, sad state of space science. We didn't record shiat like this in the 60's and 70's because we were too bust BEING ON THE MOON WHERE THERE'S NO AIR TO PLAY MUSIC.

And who's gonna mine an asteroid for me, eh? With enough asteroid mining, we can bring back heavy elements in such quantity platinum will replace aluminum as a disposable beverage container and the streets will run red with rust because metallic iron will be so plentiful we'll just toss ore back into the ground.

I'm waiting for Live From the Mars Hotel...

Seriously. Best working class science fiction, ever. Live From the Mars Hotel is one of the best SF stories about musicians up in the black.

Ishkur: It's official. Hadfield has officially surpassed Richard Garriott as the coolest mofo who's ever been to space.

This video pushed him across that line for me.

Check out his other less-goofy ones, too.

I just finished up practicing my earthbound guitar, checked FARK and now I bow down:   "I'm not worthy..."

I wonder if he'll leave the guitar in orbit for the next crew?

Can you imagine what it'd go for at auction if he did bring it back?

Odds are it's a space oddity.

Ok, the geek in me is going SQUEEEEEEEE right now. So the song isn't phenomenal. So what.
It was a decent to good song, I liked the melody, and there was something else...what was it....
oh yeah - it was the FIRST FARKING SONG composed and recorded - in any part - in SPACE!

If NASA were smart, they'd find a way to keep Hadfield up there permanently. He's probably generated more interest in a couple of months on the ISS than NASA's had in the last ten years.

Given the relative esteem the general public has for Astronautery (bite me, it's totally a word), I'm going to go out on a limb and say "As much as some random Strat that Yngwie picked up once, with two of the zeroes knocked off."

2013-02-09 12:25:30 AM
That is totally metal.

2013-02-09 12:27:03 AM

Lokasenna: Astronautery (bite me, it's totally a word)

Lo, there is much squeeing.

Isn't there a limit to how long a human can stay up there and not have "lack of constant gravity" problems?  I know they exercise and vitamin, but there's a lot of loss of tension on the body due to *no farking gravity*.  There's a reason six months is the standard tour, I thought.

Finally a reason to be proud to be Canadian. They need to sing this before the hockey game starts.

Best quote yet: "With every week that passes, Chris Hadfield becomes a bit more awesome.
Is there no limit?"

Lets hope not. He is fast becoming the most memorable astronaut in Canadian History. My kids think he is superman and are constantly looking to see what he is up to (no pun intended). Can't wait to show them this in the morning!!!

James F. Campbell: Space scares me, man. It's just, like, so big, you know?

Space, is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mindbogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space!

2013-02-09 01:45:23 AM
I actually sang jazz last week with a retired astronaut, getting a kick etc.

/Why, yes, it  was "Fly Me to the Moon"
//Hadfield kicks so much ass

In fact, it's cold as hell.

Don't Lag Me Bro: So Hadfield is singer, songwriter, photographer, blogger, and, oh yeah, an astronaut. My list of skills looks pretty small right now.

He's also a fighter pilot, a test pilot, and speaks Russian and French.

I will be impressed when someone records a song at the bottom of a shyte filled septic tank with nothing more than a guitar, pair of sneakers, jeans and a microphone.
