I GISed the original (not at work). Good painting. Art must have been in a realistic phase instead of an impressionistic phase.

I've seen the original painting, and I never understood why some people now have a problem with it.  I could understand at the time, the graphic and blunt nature of the work shocking the more delicate sensibilities of the age, but today?  That's less ribald than you'd see in Hustler, Penthouse, or any porn movie currently available.

From the wiki article that causes me to believe this print is the inspiration for Squid Billies:

LARGE OCTOPUS: My wish comes true at last, this day of days; finally I have you in my grasp! Your "bobo" is ripe and full, how wonderful! Superior to all others! To suck and suck and suck some more. After we do it masterfully, I'll guide you to the Dragon Palace of the Sea God and envelop you. "Zuu sufu sufu chyu chyu chyu tsu zuu fufufuuu..." MAIDEN: You hateful octopus! Your sucking at the mouth of my womb makes me gasp for breath! Aah! yes... it's...there!!! With the sucker, the sucker!! Inside, squiggle, squiggle, oooh! Oooh, good, oooh good! There, there! Theeeeere! Goood! Whew! Aah! Good, good, aaaaaaaaaah! Not yet! Until now it was I that men called an octopus! An octopus! Ooh! Whew! How are you able...!? Ooh! "yoyoyooh, saa... hicha hicha gucha gucha, yuchyuu chyu guzu guzu suu suuu...." LARGE OCTOPUS: All eight limbs to intertwine with!! How do you like it this way? Ah, look! The inside has swollen, moistened by the warm waters of lust. "Nura nura doku doku doku..." MAIDEN: Yes, it tingles now; soon there will be no sensation at all left in my hips. Ooooooh! Boundaries and borders gone! I've vanished....!!!!!! SMALL OCTOPUS: After daddy finishes, I too want to rub and rub my suckers at the ridge of your furry place until you disappear and then I'll suck some more. "chyu chyu" .

Sad that the new GIS censorship keeps this result out of a simple GIS for Courbet.

When prudery trumps usefulness, you've invited evil over your doorstep.

I remember walking into the Musee d'Orsay on the first day I was in Paris, turning to see that work (which is right by the entry) and thinking "Wow - I'm really going to like this place!"

Then I went up to see Whistler's Mother and was brought back down to reality.  Still a lot of impressive stuff there, and I'm no real art appreciator, that's for sure.

I tried it myself after sseye posted and indeed it did not appear in any of the 4 pages of results.

Tried it again and it now shows up around page 23.

Seems like I am getting the old unfiltered results again.

I turn off safe search always, as a matter of principle. And I don't get legitimate pieces of art history unless I add in extra keywords to make sure Big Mama Data knows I'm a pervy bad boy.

I'm sure you like that, but I prefer to be treated as an adult. The new GIS is a retarded Penguin. I shouldn't have to say "pussy porn coont spread" to get legitimate art to appear. What's weird is that they have definitely downgraded the relevance of GIS results when it comes to specificity. They have pushed "relevance" to any particular keyword way up, at the expense of results to your particular combo of search terms. I have yet to hear why this is the case - and it farking is, you can shove your blah blah up your arse.

And don't give me that "internet innocense please thinks of the children blah blah" bullshiat because I grew up before the internet and it wasn't as different as you nervous nellies like to think. In fact, it's quite more in your face when you actually went out and interacted with human beings in the public sphere before you were 18. getting an accidental porn shot in a GIS result is not the same degree of intensity as a guy masturbating from the side of a box van.

and while i'm full on [rant], you farkers now have it so easy. there is little more miserable (from a male perspective, and often from a female one too) than being adolescent, horny as fark, and having really no way enjoy seeing a naked member of the opposite sex. and if you think "our bodies, ourselves" satisfies that need i can garantee you suck in bed (sheldon). pre-internet, you had to sift your neighbors trash for nudie mags.

i have yet to hear of anyone traumatised by exposure to art.

so when "don't be evil" google is down-shifting legitimate art for maude flanders and the mencken definition of puritanism, fark them, fark you.

While it doesn't show up in a GIS for "Courbet", if you search for "origin of the world", with or without quotes, whether on either Google or on GIS, it pops right up, without any additional words.  Even with SafeSearch on.
