It's impossible to take good pictures of ugly people, and it's possible to take terrible pictures of attractive people if your name is Terry Richardson.

Professional? Just because you have a fancy camera and a website it does not make you a professional. I've always considered a professional as someone who makes their living at it. I doubt any of these people fall into that category. They seem more in the hobbyist realm.

Jesus, that first pic is going to give me nightmares... A fat couple in a pair of wings.

Apparently all you have to do to be a 'pro' is buy a cheap shiatty Rebel or D3100 and procure a copy of Photoshop- then make sure you make extensive use of shiatty filters in post-processing. I hope most of this work was pro bono, because none of these farkers even has the slightest grasp of basic composition.

Indeed.. My uncle was a photographer. He had a lot of fancy equipment, a dark room, etc. He even taught many people how to make their own dark rooms and how to shoot photos. Some of his students have gone on to take pictures of many celebrities, presidents, and other world leaders. Uncle John worked for National Geographic for about 20 years and he was also one of the first photographers for Playboy and shot for them almost until his death in 2000.

Then there's me.. I have a fancy camera with telephoto lenses and all kinds of filters and shiat. I cannot take good pictures.. I just don't have that artistic quality that I think you must have in order to take amazing photos. Sure my shiatty photos look less crappy with my fancy setup but they're still not all that good.

Some of those were not so much the fault of the photographer as much as it was the choices made by the people requesting the pictures. There is lots of bad shots and production work there as well, but sometimes you can only work with what you are given.

december: do you think they tried it first without the Mt. Dew?

i like to think the photographer actually has some skills and this is the best photo he could get. Like at first there it was much more straight on and she didnt have the can and he kept adjusting her.

"good good -- now just twist your upper body to the right -- yeah like that. Maybe a bit more." ugh -- her arm is just dangling there awkwardly "Can you put your arm on your hip? no no -- like angle it. You know what?" looking around wildy -- spots 3 day old half full mountain dew can in the corner "Here -- hold this. - yeah at your hip just casually. Now turn a bit more to the left... yea more... keep going..."

Imean -- what photographer wants to say to parents "Yeah this isnt going to happen. Im trying to run a business here." So he turns her till shes almost got her back to the camera and fudges the photo. A good portrait studio isnt good because they make great photos of regular people. Its good when they make horrible looking people look normalish.

I just think it would be funny if that was the best photo they got and it was after an afternoon of shooting.

A good shot taken with a crappy camera is a good shot. The advantage of a high end camera is that it'll get the shot if it's there.  You can then bring it out when you post process the image. But if it's not there, it's not there. A good photographer is measured by his timing and ability to recognize a good shot. A different example, as a fumble fingered geek who works with small parts, after thirty years if I drop a small screw onto the carpet, I can usually spot it by just looking down. Photographer, same thing, where you see nothing he sees some part of it that's interesting.

Tellingthem: Professional? Just because you have a fancy camera and a website it does not make you a professional. I've always considered a professional as someone who makes their living at it. I doubt any of these people fall into that category. They seem more in the hobbyist realm.

Lots of people buy cameras and improvise themselves as professionals. They have no clue how bad they are and simply don't fathom how much they don't know. Classic case in point:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGe23qm8aTk

Many Caucasians were harmed in the making of these photographs

...and a few non-caucasians, too.

Some of those had potential, but were poorly executed.

The rest are just two fingers of straight up what the fark, hold the rocks.

joeflood: Those aren't professionals.  Those are merely photographers that try to charge money for photographs.

That would be the definition of professional.  However if you want talented work, find a talented photographer.

Oh, "youarenotaphotographer.com"...been on my radar for over a year.  They do a great service of eviscerating people who desperately deserve to be.

Also check out http://youarenotagraphicdesigner.com/  from the same folks, web sites to make your eyes bleed.

Holy crap, I know I suck at photography, however looking at those, it truly takes talent to suck *that* much. It's next-level, really.

This one's not too bad...if you got rid of the rockstar shirt,  the crappy tribal, and the douche-glasses.

My thinking exactly. The way it is now, it's like redneck AHA.

I, too, was thinking this until I saw that it was a nice upskirt shot of her pretty blue knickers.  Not that I was looking...

That hurt my eyes -- and my head. I think I managed to get through about 20 of them before I decided my retinas might fall out and stopped.
