Alisha Esch's parents called police after coming home Friday night to find their 3-year-old and 9-month-old grandchildren by themselves without any supervision. They said Esch, 20, eventually returned home about 5 a.m. and passed out on her bed, apparently intoxicated.

She's 20, has a 3 year old and a 9 month old, and seemingly no baby daddy.

Good decisions don't seem to be her strong point.

It's nice that the grandparents are stepping in to take charge, but you have to remember that little miss irresponsibility is a product of their parental skills to a greater or lesser extent. So the grandkids may not be so well off in their care either. Better, probably, but not great.

Yeah it's totally her fault that her designed-to-fail sex education and restricted access to birth control and abortions rendered her a mother of two at age 20 with zero economic prospects.  It's her fault, not the men who fathered her two children (who have since absconded themselves), nor her parents for raising her thusly, nor the state's for institutionalizing a system that promotes teenage pregnancy.

It's her fault.

Damn straight. It's absolutly not her fault that she didn't keep her legs closed. And I'm sure she was forced every drink she's ever had. Oh, like some on line thing where people put up pictures and information about themselves in like a yearbook format. I just assume everybody locks theirs down to no view... but I guess with her current decision making, she is a 3 watt bulb in a 100 watt socket.

She's an adult, so her parents are no longer responsible for her actions.  She is aware of birth control and abortion, because she lives in the USA and speaks English and that's literally all some people with the ear of the media talk about.  Especially for the second kid, because damn right the obstetrician treating a 17-year-old's pregnancy made sure she was fully educated about BC.

The only thing you might have a point on is the fathers (assuming plural because... well, duh), and even in their case she could easily have prevented pregnancy with no cooperation from them whatsoever.  She's 20 and her eldest is 3, so she was the age of majority with respect to sexual decisions when both conceptions occurred.

So... yes, actually.  It's her fault.  She actively chose this, and I have no problem with her dealing with the consequences, such as getting whacked by the law when you fail to care responsibly for the dependent human beings you willingly brought into the world.

I mean, you can be fined or charged with buying a house for private use and then failing to maintain it, are you seriously suggesting we put the threshold of responsibility lower for  caring for human beings you created than for real estate upkeep?

Florida law requires parental consent on both birth control and abortions if the teenager is under 18.  Florida also instructs teens in Abstinence-only education which has been documented to increase pregnancy rates over  not givingteens sexual education.

These are facts.  You might have opinions, but the facts are plain.

I'm assuming she was driving. She went to a friend's in another town, claims to have returned twice to put the kids in bed, and then returned at 5am? Maybe she's a drunk jogger, but I doubt it. Just because she wasn't charged yet, or even if she's never charged, doesn't mean she didn't do it.

For a single 20 year old mother, having to raise a 3 year old and a 9 month old might drive someone to having a drinking problem.  Not condoning it, just pointing out the obvious.  Also obvious, if she keeps drinking and passing out, she might wind up with another child to feed.

Good decisions don't seem to be her strong point.

She's in Florida, not Iran.

This is in Florida. Trust me she had access to birth control and abortions (birth control you can get for free from planned parenthood and abortions are $300. I have to go with most of the blame being placed on her. Now if her obviously great Christian upbringing was responsible for her choices on birth control then its totally not her fault.

I'm with you on how farked up florida laws are and how ass backwards sex education is, but this isn't about a struggling young woman trying to survive in a world tilted against her, this is some dumb biatch who left her toddler and infant home alone to go boozing it up and then pass out at home drunk.

There are plenty of responsible young women with kids who could be much better served by your otherwise legitimate ranting. This girls irresponsibility went above and beyond getting pregnant twice.

Also, slightly related, I left my 10 year old home alone for 15 minutes yesterday because I needed to run to the grocery for mozzarella cheese to make lasagne. I brought my 6 year old with me. I was feeling bad for leaving my older son unattended for a brief time even though he's responsible and capable enough to make a phone call if he shoots a model rocket into the ceiling and sets the insulation on fire, but this article makes me feel better by association. I only pass out drunk when there's a sober adult around to sharpie my face.

She's not a victim, she made her own choices. But the hard cold fact is that a lot of people encouraged her to make those bad decisions.  And a lot of those same people are now clucking their tongues like happy little hens when they see what a mess she's made of it all.

Abstinence only education in a high school is like refusing to put a fence between the dog park and the freeway, and then wondering why all those dogs are getting hit by cars.

One form and two notarized testimonies (one from the teacher and one from the guidance counselor) and you can get the deal done. It's harder to bring a small claims lawsuit.

You could start the process on Monday and be in the clinic on Wednesday. Sorry but if you see a young girl carrying around a small child it's all her fault.

Yup, must be a story about white woman. Hell, there's even a guy in here white-knighting her. I never see that in the threads about Shamiqua. But, I'm sure you all have a very sane and rational reason that you treat these issues differently.

Once again you are the first to bring up race in a thread....

Yeah. That's kinda the point of my post. No one thought that it was appropriate to make disparaging remarks about all white mothers based on the actions of this woman. I'm curious to know why its done in threads about black mother

So is your point "some people are racist on the internet?"

Well, I understand that its not as insightful as your point at 2013-02-08 01:55:45 PMthat "every single teen in Florida gets pregnant", but I think its a conversation starter.

I'm so insignificant that you've polled Farkers to see how many of them take me seriously? Seems contradictory. Please tell me how the Weeners blames the woman's culture (see: race) for the choices that she's made? And the second comment goes right to my point. You rarely see these comments made in threads about Shamiqua. Its all about how typical that the father isn't around or about how those black people don't have the family values to take care of their children. In this thread, the negative comments are directed squarely at the person who made the stupid decisions, not the people who happen to look like her.

You don't have too. You seperate yourselves from them by labelling them "white trash" and you turn your little nose up at them to act like you're much better. When Farkers speak of "black trash", they make no such distinction.

Unoriginal_Username: Bored Horde: Lollipop165: St_Francis_P: Alisha Esch's parents called police after coming home Friday night to find their 3-year-old and 9-month-old grandchildren by themselves without any supervision. They said Esch, 20, eventually returned home about 5 a.m. and passed out on her bed, apparently intoxicated.

When your own parents are having you arrested, generally speaking you're a confirmed loser.

She's 20, has a 3 year old and a 9 month old, and seemingly no baby daddy.

Good decisions don't seem to be her strong point.

Not to mention that it was her kids that decided to stay home instead of going with her to her friends, leaving her with no other choice but to drink and pass out.

She is completly innocent. Poor girl.

/Self control and personal responsibility are overrated.

Well, the good news is, I've found a way to feel superior to her AND both sides of this argument.  You're BOTH wingnut extremist losers.  Meet somewhere in the middile and then go fark yourselves.

If I remove them and look at them with my regular eyes which are in embedded with some one who is a mix of black, italian, spanish and jew(I would have been the house nubian who kept the books straight) and I read the comments realistically.  A hebreaic quadroon if you will.

I see comments about her culture, her upbringing, her religeon, and her baby daddy probably being some hunk who is just out of jail....

Exactly the same things you would hear in one of the African American threads, except maybe the parents calling the police on their own child.

Not-so-CSB,

At times, my sister has been dangerously close to appearing in an article like this.  In fact, I am about 95% positive that she has done this type of thing and gotten away with it.  It tears me up and makes it difficult for me to even speak to her.  She's got 3 kids from 2 different fathers, one of whom she was even married to for a bit, although they met in rehab.  Better than some, I admit.  She claimed that all 3 of her kids have been the result of birth control failures.

Her first kid is pretty severely autistic- 8 years old and non-verbal- he has 3 or 4 words.  Her second kid plays on the iPad that's supposed to be used as a communicative tool by his brother all day every day.  Her 3rd kid was conceived with a married guy while she was still married as well.  My parents and her husband's parents bought her and her husband a house when they had the first kid, which they trashed.  After she got knocked up by another married dude, they got divorced, so my parents bought her another house, which her and her three kids trashed because it was "too small."  They then bought her a larger house which she also trashed, all the while convincing themselves they were doing it for their grandchildren- that they'd never be able to see the kids again if my sister saw actual legal consequences for her actions.

Fast-forward about a year.  My dad was randomly driving down a major road in our town and sees my sister's kids in the parking lot of some shady apartment complex in the cold with no coats on, seemingly unsupervised.  It turns out my sister was in a van in the same parking lot buying drugs and letting her kids wander around without coats.  My dad grabbed the kids and took them back to his house, telling  my sister that this was the last straw.  Of course it wasn't.  They moved her and the kids into their house, where she's slowly bleeding them dry.  They moved into the finished basement of their own home, and my sister and her brood has the run of the main level.  She currently claims to be sober, but I again have my doubts.  My parents have started paying for intensive therapy for the oldest kid, but it's now not as effective because of years of neglect.  It's something my sister should have been doing years ago with the massive amounts of aid that she was receiving while my parents subsidized the rest of her lifestyle.  God, my family is farked up.

/Thanks.  I needed to get that off my chest.

I am not a lawyer; I am also not your lawyer. However, your parents might want to look into obtaining legal guardianship of their grandchildren so they can make medical and educational decisions for them (especially the oldest); and also consider looking into beginning proceedings for termination of your sister's parental rights.

That's what I'd do, but of course I'm not offering you any legal advice or making any recommendations or offering any predictions about how such actions might turn out in court. You should consult a family lawyer certified in guardianship rights.

Thanks- They know what I think, but I dare not bring that up, because I'd be made out to be the bad guy.  Also, I've occasionally wondered aloud around my wife what would happen if my parents passed away while the kids were still young.  I was told in no uncertain terms that we could not handle raising those kids, so that's off the table too.  Stuff like this is tragic, because the best answer, in my sister's case and maybe in the case in TFA, could be for the kids to be taken away by DCFS.

It's unfortunate that schools these days, in addition to teaching "abstinence only" sex ed, aren't allowed to so much as hint at abortion as an option.

Whoa. My sisters' decisions sometimes make me sad (I am sure I have made some that made them sad too), but that is horrible.

I didn't say he was wrong.  I'm totally on his side.  If my sister were black, she'd receive nothing but scorn for being a welfare queen.

Oh yeah, I wasn't talking about you specifically...this living in the North has really screwed up my y'all'ing.

Sorry about that.

No problem.  I thought that might have been the case, but I wanted to claim a side in the great Fark Race Wars of 2013.

I should be in the kitchen: It's unfortunate that schools these days, in addition to teaching "abstinence only" sex ed, aren't allowed to so much as hint at abortion as an option.

That's because a baby is God's punishment for being a slut. If sluts would just keep their legs closed, we wouldn't need to force those them to have punishment-babies.

White people can be welfare queens too you know. And they should be scorned.

And for the record, my sister looks a lot like the Casey Anthony photo posted upthread.  Make of that what you will.

What do you think that gigantic rant I just did was?  My point is that she doesn't receive near the scorn that black people on welfare do.

Then you don't agree with DRO. The woman in TFA is getting plenty of scorn in this thread, but that apparently makes us racists.

Individual scorn.  I don't see anyone saying that all white people act like this, or that white culture is naturally like this, but that's pretty common in other threads where the races are reversed.  Anyway, I've threadjacked too long.

So we're racists because we don't post what other people post in other threads about other people. Go fark yourself. And take DRO with you.

My wife and I are 32 and have a two month old. After a recent baby crying jag, my wife observed "I'd really like to drink some hard alcohol right now."

So, if I were a 20 year old single mother with a 3 year old and a baby, I'd probably drink so much I passed out, too. That sounds awful.

But hey, at least her parents are supportive.

Since DROxINxTHExWIND brought up the fct that sometimes faqrkers say racist things, is it up to me to mention that something anti-Christian things get said as well?

"makes makes brilliant observation about her life"

I soooooo wanted this to be something akin to  "I Do What I Want!!!" complete with Cartman dominating the thread.

oh well, win some, lose some.

/oh, and I don't disagree with DRO's premise, but it was a kind of forced threadjack. There are tons of threads to discuss race, biases, prejudice, etc. TONS of them. Pick and chose your battles, man. Fewer words carry larger weight.

St_Francis_P: Alisha Esch's parents called police after coming home Friday night to find their 3-year-old and 9-month-old grandchildren by themselves without any supervision. They said Esch, 20, eventually returned home about 5 a.m. and passed out on her bed, apparently intoxicated.

When your own parents are having you arrested, generally speaking you're a confirmed loser.

No, it means that THEY are confirmed losers.

She's 20, has a 3 year old and a 9 month old, and seemingly no baby daddy.

Good decisions don't seem to be her strong point.

She could have closed her legs.

Even a mandatory reporter could feel annoyed at the parents.  The kids were still there, alive and OK and not in "imminent" danger when the parents showed up.  Unless the parents are at the point of moving for custody and are creating a record of their wayward child's failures for the judge -- a civil proceeding that Gyrfalcon talked about and not the criminal charge she can now face for her irresponsible behavior -- it is usually not the right call.  911 is not a good way to teach your loved ones a little tough lesson.  The cop does not want to give your kid, uncle, spouse, etc. a stern lecture, but only to determine if there is PC for an arrest.
