ages ago we came up with the brilliant idea of using a whole lot of bungee donated by my dad(who had i swear to god dozens of multi-hundred foot spools of the stuff in the attic for what reason i have no idea...) and a hand-cranked winch off an old jeep to create a giant idiot-slingshot. sucker ran at ground-level.

we had the thing mounted up on posts and set up a launch cradle in the middle. pulled back maybe 50-60 feet i want to say. we used a quick-release hook that someone else scared up out of another father's workshop.

the acceleration was an experience i have never forgotten. when you weigh maybe 70 pounds, a shiat-ton of bungee will accelerate you to ungodly speeds when you have the low rolling resistance of a skateboard. only way to start was sitting down or laying down. wish we'd built a luge sled.

we set the thing to launch you uphill. it was a surprisingly substantial hill. you arrived at the top with a fair head of speed still, at least 25-30 miles an hour.

god those were the days.
