The My Little Pony Killer: meta1hed: Doesn't it seem they could call Fark "Yesterday's Reddit"?

Doesn't it seem you could just stick with reddit instead of spreading to corners of the web that aren't reddit only to complain that those places aren't reddit?

Nope.

The Crepes of Wrath: Can't remember if they were a Cleveland band or just toured there, but my favorite was Sleazy Jesus and the Splatterpigs.

Cleveland/Kent band.  Chet Faliszek, videogame writer and one of the main writers for the Valve Corporation, was in it.

So no Combichrist on the list, or Scandinavian Cock? No Genitorturers? Meh. The list is severely lacking.

They would hate the local band here that goes by the name 'Anal Pudding'.

Yeah, but Reddit comment threads are unreadable.

That's funny.  At least on reddit the worthwhile comments all bubble to the top of the thread so that I don't have to wade through a hundred weak-ass troll attempts and pathetic jokes with my "ignore" trigger finger loaded to find one nugget of worthwhile commentary to enjoy.

I remember reading something like this when I was doing a stint as a DJ at the college radio station.  Was fun to go thru the CD stacks to see which songs were blacked out- meaning we couldn't play them.

/You Really Can't Play That Song on the Radio

All these comments and no one has yet pointed out that (in all likelihood) "Ballsac" actually refers to Japanese Horrorpunk band "Balzac" and "Cock Spear" actually refers to British Oi band "Cock Sparrer."

Granted, there may be bands called Ballsac and Cock Spear, but I don't think they get much radio play.

i listen to heavy metal and i totally agree with you.  there are bands i've heard of that i refuse to listen to just because of an overly offensive name.  if you actually have talent and want people to appreciate your music, come up with an appropriate band name.  have some respect for the genre.  coming up with gross out band names just turns your band into a joke.

Rotting Christ gave an interview a few years ago talking about this.  They have released a dozen albums, and had come to regret picking that name when they were teens. They wanted to change their name, but their label nixed the idea and said they would be responsible for any licensing stuff like t-shirts that still had the name on them.  So, Rotting Christ it is.

I'll add to everyone else here saying that WSOU was a great radio station in the early 90s (haven't heard it since then), but its main playlist rotation was heavy metal, so it's not like the possibility of them playing an Anal coont or Goatwhore song is preposterous. WSOU introduced me to bands like Overkill, Testament, Manowar. I would curse at the radio every time my favorite DJs were preempted for Seton Hall basketball games.

CapeFearCadaver: whizbangthedirtfarmer: CSB time: I once worked at a college radio station, and I made the rookie mistake of not reading the PSAs before actually announcing them on air. This PSA was about child abuse prevention, and then I cued up the next song with a, "and now, here is Entombed, with 'Albino Whipped in Black.'"

\may not have been my best moment

I did that shiat on purpose. Then again, one of my time slots was Sunday's at 11am.

Would start that show off with Christian Slaughter by Necrophobic, or In Bed With Satan by Infernö. Highest ratings evar!

I don't think I'll ever understand college radio GMs.  I know they are generally stupid students (it took me four tries just to get our GM to arrive to give me the FCC quiz), but putting heavy metal at the most ridiculous times seems to be a widespread thing.

Still, the local prisoners enjoyed the show, and they were often the only audience, I think.  They'd call collect, so you'd hear, "Will you accept this call from ... PLAY CANNIBAL CORPSE! -click-"

Fun.

Oh. We did that on purpose. To catch the 'leaving church' people.

My other slot was 10pm-2am on Thursdays. Both shows were popular and got great ratings... but the Sunday show was actually the best ratings they had ever had :)

I think I still have some of the calls I got recorded. Was so tempted to put them on the air but they told me not to.

Nope. Small college in Greensboro. Didn't even go to school there. WQFS.

You weren't around here when WKNC was awesome.... late 80s early 90s, couldn't beat it. They played a My Dying Bride DEMO! of Beautiful Bells. Like, pre-signing. Still have that show on cassette.

We usually had our metal hours at something like Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9 'til noon.  Incredibly awful hours, and I always had the feeling of speaking to dead space.  I think I had a total audience of maybe a dozen prisoners.

\Bluegrass and folk was scheduled for Friday nights, from 8 til midnight

Still is. My first taste of Five Finger Death Punch and Psychostick came from them. They still play Manowar and Testament, too, though not add heavily as I'd like. Just a touch to much cookie monster metal for me, but the rest of NYC radio is terrible.

Meh.. I DJ'd for WTSR mid to late 80's and had a punk show.. 10pm-2am... we had to specify a format "punk rock" and got chewed out if we played anything BUT punk!! Also, we didnt have a blacklist of bands, and we could play any band/song we wanted.. the only time we had to be nice was when we read back band names and or songs, funny thing was, I always substituted fark for the naughty bits..
