Saiga410: Wait govt creates jobs?  I thought demand created jobs.

This just in: the US military is no longer part of the government.

vernonFL: For the umpteenth time:

THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT CREATE JOBS.

The US Government is the second largest employer in the world (China is the first).

You can't explain that.

See that's the thing about trolls. Too many of them now. No fun to respond to engage them with back and forth banter since most of them are hit-and-run types anyway. Trolls are going the way of the dodo.

The government demands a lot of things.

and takes credit for things when convenient, job losses are caused by a downturn in the market.

ilambiquated: I don't think you can focus a laser. Putting a laser through a lens is more likely to "delase" it and turn it into normal incoherent light.

Completely wrong.  Lasers focus quite easily.  They're much easier to work with than an incoherent source for most applications.

Laser light is still light.  For example, commercial lasers often have a diameter of a few millimeters.  Let's say you need a different diameter for whatever the hell you use a laser for.  You can use a single lens to focus it to a more narrow spot (down to the diffraction limit, which is a few hundred nanometers for visible frequencies) at a specific depth.  With two lenses, appropriately aligned, you can create a new beam with the same orientation and a different (smaller or larger) diameter.  Microscope objectives can have half a dozen or more lenses in them, and they can use laser inputs.

Large companies exist on selling this sort of thing.  If you want to buy a meh-quality beam expander or reducer, here you go.

True, but it can certainly help or hurt when others try to do so. If a law was passed saying that you had to literally crawl over broken glass to get a business license, that would probably cut way down on the number of jobs created.

jst3p: Meanwhile anyone want to guess who the WORLDS largest employer is?

It's Mitt Romney? Mind. Blown.

Republicans see high unemployment as a feature and not a bug which is why they have obstructing any legislation that might reduce unemployment.

Anything that keeps wages down and CEO bonuses up gets a big thumbs up from them.
