Cortez the Killer: Led Zeppelin - IV (ZOSO)

1. Black Dog
2. Rock and Roll

I came to say this. Except the correct nomenclature is "Led Zeppelin's untitled fourth album".

mcreadyblue: More than a feeling is not the first song on the albulm. :-(

Foreplay -> Long Time
.

Um, how much HAVE you had to drink already today? Boston's first album starts with:

1) More Than A Feeling
2) Peace Of Mind
3) Foreplay/Long Time....

My lawn, get off it.

12349876: Queen - News of the World

1. We Will Rock You
2. We Are The Champions

This is what a one two punch means.

2013-02-08 02:03:09 PM
Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet
1. Fight the Power
2. Welcome to the Terrordome

2013-02-08 02:04:20 PM

mcreadyblue: Boston, "Boston" (yeah, it's overplayed now, but imagine putting in on the record player for the first time in 1976...)
"More Than a Feeling" -> "Peace of Mind"

More than a feeling is not the first song on the albulm. :-(

Foreplay -> Long Time.

The internet disagrees.

Wesley Willis
Rock 'n' Roll Will Never Die

1."Hootie and the Blowfish"3:082."Kurt Cobain"2:25

TOP THAT!

2013-02-08 02:06:50 PM

Marisyana: The Warning had a few good songs but overall IMO it wasn't one of their best.  I'm probably weird in that I think Promised Land is better.  And Rage For Order had a great one-two punch too, "Walk In The Shadows"---> "I Dream In Infrared."  Everything after Promised Land blew goats though and now they're a huge train wreck.  Sad.

I would call that the best triple - ending with The Whisper though. RfO was an outstanding album. I saw Tate and the band he put together a few years ago. They played Mindcrime straight through (and identified the killer) as well as most of their hits. Tate's voice just isn't the same anymore.

Comments fail with:

OTHER shiat that wasn't in the article that's obsucre

Intro / whatever is after it

Song (part I) / Song (part 2)

Songs that are NEVER played by themselves (Queen, Boston, ZZ)

Things that aren't even the 1st/2nd on said album

Things that aren't even on THE SAME SIDE (see above PE reference)

moistD: Electric Six: I Shall Exterminate Everything Around Me that Restricts Me from Being the Master

1. Showtime
2. Down at McDonnelzz

Down at McDonnelzz is ridiculously fun to hear live.

That was my 2007 Album of the Year. Simply fantastic. And agreed on McDonnelzz.

Lucifer Airlines is probably my favorite E6 tune ever.

FTA:

John Semley
A while ago, I took to Twitter to pose a pressing question. Which is the better Kyuss album: 1992's Blues For The Red Sun, or 1994's Welcome To Sky Valley?

I like you John Semley.

Perhaps not quite a punch, but a truly unforgettable opening duo.

2013-02-08 02:17:32 PM
And I'd also nominate:

upload.wikimedia.org

Which isn't so much a punch, but a smash your face with a brick and drag it across a chain link fence.

stupiddream: Ween - The Pod - Strap on that Jammy Pac, Dr. Rock
Porcupine Tree - In Absentia - Blackest Eyes, Trains
The Sundays - Reading Writing and Arithmetic - Skin and Bones, Here's Where the Story Ends

THIS! Harriet Wheeler is a Goddess who walks amongst us mere mortals.

2013-02-08 02:23:08 PM
Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream is certainly tops for me.
"Cherub Rock" -> "Quiet". Come on, now.

2013-02-08 02:26:03 PM
Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power

Mouth For War -> A New Level

2013-02-08 02:26:10 PM
The Black Crowes - Twice as hard/ Jealous again

2013-02-08 02:27:41 PM
Two Flaming Lips albums were already mentioned, but I particularly like The Soft Bulletin's openers "Race For The Prize" and "A Spoonful Weighs a Ton".

I'll mention Matthew Sweet's In Reverse album ("Millennium Blues"/"If Time Permits") if only for the bridge between the two songs, which is one of the greatest moments in powerpop history.

Everyone's contributions are insanely diverse. I just thought of another one:
Cocteau Twins, "Treasure"
"Ivo," then the achingly gorgeous "Lorelei"

Oh, and would anyone else accept The Stone Roses?
"Elephant Stone" then "Made of Stone"

I Dream in Infrared

is probably one of my fave Ryche tunes. RfO is a MASTERPIECE so far ahead of it's time, it's not even farking funny. Everything about that album- the recording, the playing, the lyrics... superb and told a story that has come frighteningly true.

Losac: Pantera - Vulgar Display of Power

Mouth For War -> A New Level

The solo on ANL owns ALL.

FARKING THIS!

Silly me. Should have been these:
Stone Roses, first album:
"I Wanna Be Adored," then "She Bangs the Drums"

2013-02-08 02:41:20 PM
Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood - DMX

when I first heard the lyrics:

"I got blood on my hands
and there's no remorse
I got blood on my dick
cuz I farked a corpse..."

I found it gross, yet made quite a startling beginning to an album

2013-02-08 02:43:55 PM

Cortez the Killer: Led Zeppelin - IV (ZOSO)

1. Black Dog
2. Rock and Roll

Agreed.  I'd also suggest Led Zeppelin II

1. Whole Lotta Love
2. What Is and What Should Never Be

2013-02-08 02:44:13 PM
1) Up The Beach

2) Ocean Size

Fark you, haters.

/get off my lawn

2013-02-08 02:49:49 PM
